COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING SERVICE Sunday, November 20 th 7:00 p.m. at Welker s Crossroads Evangelical Methodist Church (3826 Old Julian Road, Julian, NC) Join us as we gather across denominational lines to give thanks to God as a community of believers. The service will be from 7:00-8:00 p.m. as we gratefully celebrate God s bounty and our unity in the Body of Christ. A special collection will be received to care for those in the eastern part of NC who have been affected by Hurricane Matthew. These donations will be channeled through our United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Missions Day!!! Saturday November 19, 2016 The Mission's committee will have Super Service Saturday in the Fellowship Hall. From 8 am to noon, we will pack and deliver Thanksgiving meal ingredients for local needy families. From noon until 4 pm, we will assemble flood buckets for UMCOR, we will make grocery bag sleeping mats for the homeless, and we will cook for the Food for the Soul freezer ministry. Stop by anytime from 8 am to 4 pm, and join in the fun!!! Thinking About Church Under the Bridge It s going to be getting colder. Let s not forget about our friends Under the Bridge. As you are out shopping, consider picking up a few hats and gloves to distribute when Tabernacle provides a meal in late January or February. There will be a collection box in the commons. Thank you. ANNUAL THANKSGIVING MEALS It s that time of the year again to begin thinking of how we can help our community during the holidays. One way is to support the Annual THANKSGIVING MEALS. We will again provide cooked and uncooked turkey dinners to families in need on Thanksgiving Day. You can even support a whole family for $30! The meal consists of the following: Whole Turkey, 5 lbs. bag of potatoes, Bag of Stuffing, Can of Gravy, Pie or Cake, Family Sized Can of Green Beans, Package of Rolls, Can of Cranberry Sauce, and a gallon of tea. WANT TO VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME? You could offer to cook a turkey. They can be delivered to the church on Wednesday evening the day before Thanksgiving or by 9:00 am on Thanksgiving Day, Come help cook other items. We will meet at the fellowship Hall at 9 am and are usually done and delivering by 1 pm. Come help us deliver meals. We will need volunteers to help packs and deliver uncooked meals starting at 9 am Saturday, November 19th and we will need help delivering the cooked meals starting at 12:00 am on Thanksgiving Day. Operation Christmas Child The deadline for bringing in your box is Sunday, November 20th. Please include a check for $7 to cover the shipping cost, make out to TUMC with "Christmas Box Shipping in the memo line. If you haven t please get shoeboxes in by Sunday afternoon! Thank you! Light of the World Save the Date! Live Nativity Community-Wide Advent Event: December 11 th, 5:00-7:30 Witness the Christmas story coming to life & enjoy light refreshments. The event is designed for people of all ages so bring the entire family! Some accommodations will be available for those with limited walking ability. Cover the City Blanket Project helps the homeless stay warm during the winter months by collecting new and used blankets for distribution. Please donate used and new blankets from now until November 28 th. There is a collection Bin in the commons area. The blankets this year will get distributed to those in need through Greensboro Urban Ministries, Partners Ending Homelessness, and the IRC. Children s Choir: SPECIAL PRACTICE NOVEMBER 20th!- 5-6pm (no dinner provided this week- NO Regular Kingdom Kids Meeting) At 5pm- ALL CHILDREN who would like to sing in the Cantata (which is during the 11:00 am service on Sunday, December 18th) will learn the Cantata song at 5pm, the kids who are also in the Light of the World will stay until 6pm. Speaking parts will be distributed and are already assigned, but please don t hesitate to stay and learn the Christmas music if you want to sing during Light of the World on Dec 11th. All Children are welcome! It ISN T too LATE to come and join the choir for Christmas praise in December! The deadline for the Sunday Bulletin is Wednesday at 8 am. The deadline for the monthly newsletter is the 15th of the month prior to the month of the newsletter. Please use date request forms for all upcoming events/meetings (even if it is an annual TUMC event). Please specify date/time, what area of the building will be used, sound/any specific equipment, or if kitchen facilities are needed. Due to quite a few of our staff members being new to TUMC this will help to ensure all details are clear, staff/committee members are in place, and their are no conflicts in dates. The forms are on the information table in the narthex, commons area, and church office under staff mailboxes.
