In these times the earth brought forth her abundance. So mighty was the yield of mother earth that governments curbed production and destroyed surplus, even though millions cried for bread., and millions again, could find no means cf earn-, ing bread. Never 'before in the history of the human race have miljiore been in want 'because their neighbors had too much. These were the days when men's hearts failed them, when souls were tried as iby fire. Such days broke the mcra's of strong men as.a. cyclone breaks branches frcm the nobl:r trees. The World War, fought by Christian nations was a.paradox, irexplaiiiable. unjustifiable, and beyond the realm of human reason. Thi s colossal strife embittered the.. world, upset the balance of human society, and planted century seeds of hate. A decade after this.brutal war, the race finds itself impoverished, dissapipointed, and ill at ease. The economic wise men have no solution, our statesmen and leaders are as blind leading the blind. All men everywhere are rolled along by the irresiistaible force of current everts. No. one knows where we are going all agree we are on the way. It was in this Golden Age, in this paradox cf too much and want that, in Aki'on, Ohio. Judge * * * bought $2:5,000 kort'li of rubber stock. It is proper to say "Doctrine of the Pharisees," or "Doctrine of Paul," for the reason that their interpretations ofl the law are argumentative and instructive. The burden of practically all the Epistles of the New Testament is to establish the three facts, namely: first, Jesus was the Christ; second, He rose from the dead; third, Salvation i s by faith in his name. All these treatise may be classified as doctrinal. Now, does the Community Church teach doctrine? If we teach the New Testament we teach doctrine. If we confine ourselves exclusively to the teachings of the Master,, we can scarcely be charged with teaching doctrine. If we contend for immersion as a valid baptism, then we teach doctrine. Assuming a liberal view of the question, I answer; the Community church is decidedly adverse to Doctrine, as doctrine is commonly interpreted. The doctrine of God and the doctrine of salvation are great land marks of all churches. However, there are doctrines that denominations hold to that sever, and separate them hopelessly from cooperation with the great company of believers. CHURCH NIGHT Church night has been neglected and omitted for two months. The first Friday evening in the month is the proper time. This time it will be the Friday after Hallowe'en night. Shall we have the meeting? A business like organization has regular business meetings, and reports from the various departments. How about a few reports this time say one from the church treasurer, the Sunday school, the insurance fund trustees, the regular trustees, the deacons and the deaconesses. It certainly would help things along considerably if the people o'f the congregation had an exact picture of our church affairs. Fold your tent like the Arabs, my brother, and as quietly steal away. Don't stay where you are a misfit. It is unjust to your own soul. Furthermore; you can never be at your best in unfavorable environment. Life is too short to go about with a gravel in the shoe. Be careful, however, that you are not out of step with the truth. Lay hold of the mighty truths, truths that conscience, reason and experience lead you to believe are vouched safe by the Spirit of God. Buy such truths and sell them not. GEORGE M. FIFTY YEARS The Munroe Falls Methodist Community church will celebrate their fiftieth anniversary this Sunday. There will be morning, afternoon and evening services. The morning service will be as usual, the afternoon meeting will be given over to visiting clergy and former members. In the evening a candlelight service will be held. When you read this, Mrs. Ermal Dunn, Williamson road, will have attended on Thursday night of this week the Epworth Kensinger Sunday school classes annual reunion and banquet at the old Franklin Avenue M. E. church in Cleveland. She used to be a member of the Epworth Girls class in 1899 and 1900. The Kensinger class was a young men's class in those days. W. V. Smith used to be assistant Sunday school superintendent there at that time. ORANGE BREAD Last Wednesday evening while waiting' for that special edition of this paper to come off the press, Mrs. Frank Howe gave the editor several good things to eat. Here is the recipe for one of those good things: Boil the skins of four oranges for twenty minutes; drain off the water, pare off the yellow rind and grind same. Add one cup sugar, one-half cup water and cook a short time. Remove from fire and while hot add two tablespoons butter. Cool, then add one egg, one cup milk, two and one-half cups flower and four teaspoons baking powder. Bake fifty minutes in moderate oven. DID YOU HEAR THE FIRE SIREN I.ast Sunday Morning About 3 A. Perhaps as you went back to bed, you thanked your lucky stars that it wa s somebody else who was in trouble, or perhaps you were much disturbed and muttered to yourself, "I wish they would hurry up and shut that thing off so that I can get some sleep." What did it mean to that unfortunate family, who just six weeks ago had moved into that big farm house near Green Road in Northampton Township? Awakened by the crackling of flames, and a glare that lit up the house outside and in. and upon rushing to the window to discover the big bank barn across the road a mass of flames, the sparks and flying embers falling on the house roof and in the door yard, the heat so intense that the paint was blistering on the side of the house next to the road. What did it mean to them, when after several telephone appeals to other communities for help, they heard the Stow Fire Chief say, "Yes we will come." What did it mean to the members of the Stow Fire department, aroused by that call ot duty? It meant lights on in about 30 homes, hurry into their clothes, start the car and after getting the direction di'ive four miles in a dense fog
