In establishing family Church Commitment, only family members living at the same address as the child and who have legal responsibility for the child will be taken into account. 3.6 Assessing the family Church Commitment will be carried out by ranking applicants according to points. One point, to a maximum of five, will be awarded under each heading: confirmation by the Clergy that the child is baptised; confirmation by the Clergy that the parent/guardian is a regular communicant at one of the specified Churches of the North Lambeth Parish; confirmation by the Clergy that the child attends one of the specified Churches in North Lambeth Parish with the parent/guardian; parent/guardian holds office in a specified Church of the North Lambeth Parish; parent/guardian is on the electoral roll of a specified Church of the North Lambeth Parish; parent/guardian has regular practical involvement in the work of North Lambeth Parish; parent/guardian takes a role in public worship/ministry in a specified Church in the North Lambeth Parish; parent/guardian has regular involvement in another aspect of Church life in a specified Church of the North Lambeth Parish; 3.7 After this, priority will be given to siblings 3 of current ABS pupils who attend at the time the application is made and who will be on roll at the School at the time of admission. 3.8 If it is necessary to decide between applicants who have equal claim to a Church Place, Governors will decide based on distance from the school. Distance is measured from the main entrance to the school on Reedworth Street to the child s home using LBL s computerised Straight Line Measurement system. 3.9 If it is still not possible to distinguish between applicants, Governors will draw names from a hat to allocate the Church Places. Section four - Open Places 1.1 After the Church Places are decided the remaining places will be offered; these are Open Places (where no religious criteria apply). Applications will be ranked in this order of preference: First priority will be given to Looked after Children¹. After this, priority will be given to siblings² of current ABS pupils who attend at the time the application is made and who will be on roll at the School at the time of admission. After this, priority will be decided based on distance from the main entrance to the school on Reedworth Street to the child s home using LBL s computerised Straight Line Measurement system. If it is still not possible to distinguish between applicants, Governors will draw names from a hat to allocate Open Places. Appeals Applicants who are not offered a place at ABS for their child have the right to appeal to an independent appeal panel. Parents wishing to appeal should set out their appeal in writing addressed to the Chair of Governors within 14 days of receiving the letter from the LBL informing them of the outcome of their application. Waiting List Once the first round of offers is made by the LBL, ABS will operate a waiting list ordered in accordance with the School Admissions Policy. This means that the waiting list may change as new applications for places are received and a child who has been on the waiting list for some time may drop down the list when a new applicant is added. The list of applicants waiting for a place at ABS is maintained by the LBL. When a vacancy arises, Governors will meet to order (against the Admissions Policy) the list as it stood on the day the vacancy arose. ¹ Looked after Children means a child who is looked after by a local authority in accordance with section 22 of the Children Act 1989(b) at the time an application for his/her admission to a school is made and who the local authority has confirmed will still be looked after at the time when s/he is admitted to the school. ² sibling means children who reside together at the same address and who have at least one parent in common by birth or legal adoption.
