Each member of the team takes a week at a time and visits hospitalized Centerville Baptist Church family and friends or those having surgery by making a short visit and having prayer with them. It is our goal to have at least 8 members on the team. At this time we have only 5 members. Please consider joining us for a rewarding experience of being the hands and feet of Jesus. S Short-Term Discipleship Classes It is hard to believe that we are already one month into 2017. As time marches on, hopefully we move forward with an ongoing sense of commitment and renewal. Beginning this month, we offer three discipleship classes to help deepen your commitment to Christian ministry both at Centerville and beyond. These are the three classes that were referred to in our Next Steps campaign: 1. Discover Centerville (Led by Kevin Ritter, cbcpastor.ritter@verizon.net): February 19, February 26, and March 5. At 4:30 PM, come discover the Why, How and What of Centerville Baptist Church through discussion, video, and guest speakers in three 90 minute gatherings. Please RSVP to Kevin by February 15. 2. A Life of Christian Calling (Led by Brian Harfst, cbcequipping.pastor@verizon.net): Thursdays in February (February 2, 9, 16, and 23) from 6:30-8:30 PM. Discuss what it means to be called by God, explore your own calling, and reflect on ways to stay open to God s call. Please RSVP by the morning of February 2. 3. Spiritual Gifts Class (Led by Jim and Judy Caldwell, JSCALDWE@sentara.com): We are still putting together ideas for the class and plan to have something ready by March. The plan is to use one or more gifts/ interests/ personality inventories in order to facilitate selfdiscovery and generate conversation and reflection about the unique selves God made each of us to be. Please contact me or the class leaders if you have questions or would like to sign up. Blessings, Brian Harfst

Chesapeake Area Shelter Team Coordinator CAST 2017: Thank you to everyone who shared their time, love and donations to make our host week another great success. Our guests and volunteers both were richly blessed by the time spent talking with each other and serving, in Jesus name. Susan The Winter Blues are here. The children are feeling the woes of not enough Sunshine and Fresh air. The snow and rainfall this winter has caused the after schoolers to be inside most afternoons. With homework they only have a certain amount of time to be outside as it is. Praying for dry weather in February. The cold does not stop us but the rain sure does. I heard CAST was quit the success. It was nice to help by supplying lunch items. We are blessed to be able to help with such a wonderful mission. By the time you read this newsletter the new flooring reno in the old fellowship will be underway. Distinguished Designs will be applying an epoxy floor over the concrete. We are very excited to not have to worry with carpet anymore, after all the water this past fall. So please take a walk after church to see the floor. Some painting and minor repairs will take place on the center wall once the floor is complete. Fall registration has begun for our Preschool age children. In house enrollment for Summer Camp and Fall afterschool will begin March 1 st. If spaces are still available we will open enrollment April 1 st. We are interested in reactivating the Senior Citizen Ministry Team. The goals of this team will be to nurture, encourage, and empower our church members who are 55 and older. Our first goal is to come along beside the Deacon Homebound Ministry Team to strengthen this ministry in our congregation. Then we will branch out into other types of activities that you would like to have. We will need your input. If you are interested in working with this ministry team please contact Pat Dunkley, 482-7107 or pnkdgwd@aol.com. Disabled and/or Senior Citizens of Chesapeake *If already enrolled in the program: a. affidavits can be reviewed b. affidavits can be notarized Every 1st Sunday, 1:00pm - 2:30pm. Starting 5 February 2017 See our Senior Adult Ministry Board for more information. Questions? Please contact Amanda Miller.

Building the Future of Centerville The Stewardship and Finance Committee has been working diligently to help our church take the next step into a responsible financial future. They have 3 recommendations to present on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Church Conference. 1) To work to balance our revenue and expenses by the end of the year. We will ask everyone to prayerfully consider increased giving through tithes and offerings. Example: If a person or family giving to the church would raise their current gifts by 10% (If you re giving $100 per week, give $110), it can make a very big difference over the entire year ($520 more annually). 2) To make funds available for needed building repairs and improvements, we recommend that the church re-designate the Van Fund ($40,770) and the Group Home Columbia Utilities Fund (approximately $54,876) as Building Repairs and Improvements Funds. 3) To take a vote on whether or not the members of the church would be interested in selling 10 acres of our land. This land would basically be the corn/bean field south of the Burfoot house. This vote would only show the interest in selling the land; it would not give permission for a specific sale. Many details (price, zoning, boundary lines) would have to be settled and then a final offer would be approved before any sale of land would be complete. Together we must make every effort to take healthy financial steps. Our hope is that you will ask questions of the Stewardship and Finance Committee (Chair Joe Fail, Sandy Lowry, Larry Higgerson, Nancy Blevins, Mike Weeks, and Jeff Dooley) and/or other leaders that might help you understand these issues and make an informed decision. Please make every effort to be at the Church Conference of February 26, following the worship service.
