KESSLER Missionary Moment for June This month we will focus on VBS. VBS is a fun-filled program many churches offer, usually during the summer months, to connect with the children and their families in their communities.vbs is an outreach meant to bring in children who don t normally attend church and to teach them the gospel. VBS began in the 1890s. A New York doctor s wife wanted to find a way to keep children off the streets in the summertime, and so she rented a large beer hall
in the East Side in order to conduct what she called Everyday Bible School. Her idea expanded and eventually the New York City Baptist Mission Society established several of these Bible schools around the city. A man named Robert G. Boville, formerly of the Baptist Mission Society, was key in the program s expansion to other cities around the country. By 1907, he had established a national committee for Vacation Bible Schools. Churches generally run VBS for a week, and each program has its own theme that children can explore. A week of VBS usually includes games, snacks, crafts, skits, and, of course, Bible lessons. There is always a connection between God and the theme, allowing kids to discover God in a creative way. Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him all creatures here below. Praise Him above, ye heavenly hosts. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. Special Music 221 Address to Graduates Introduction of Graduates & Slideshow Haven Abernathy Rev. Dr. B. J. GABC will be offering a "church-wide" trip to Washington DC to tour the new Museum of the Bible on Friday, August 17, 2018. This trip will be on a first come, first serve basis; we only have 39 spots available! The cost will be approximately $45 a person based on full occupancy. This would include the cost of the bus and the suggested $12 donation for the museum. We would leave the church at 8:00 AM. The plan would be to have lunch and tour the museum for approximately 3-4 hours and arrive back in Richmond between 6-7 PM. A big thanks to Matt Davidson and Al Thompson with their help in coordinating this event. If you are interested in reserving a spot, please reach out to B.J. directly via e-mail (wjcrowderjr.gabc@gmail.com) or phone (804-426-2382). Remember...we only have 39 spots available so get your name on the list ASAP! DON'T FORGET to sign up/pre-order your 150th Commemorative Plates and Trivets. Each of these items will have a single color illustration of our church on it, and the 9 ¼ inch plates will have our church s history fired on the back. The 6 x 6 square trivets will have cork backing so the history cannot be applied to them. Display stands for the plates will also be offered for purchase. These items make wonderful gifts for yourself, your family, or anyone who has a special place in their heart for Glen Allen Baptist Church. Sign Up sheets for those interested in purchasing any of these items will be placed just outside the Sanctuary, (organ side), and in the Welcome Center. The plates will be sold for $15, the trivets for $10 and the plate stands for $3. Proceeds from the sale of these items will go toward the Welcome Center building debt. They will only be ordered for those that have signed up. You will pay for them when you pick them up. The sooner you sign up, the quicker we can order them. Today we celebrate Youth Sunday at Glen Allen Baptist Church. This picture of Glen Allen Baptist Church Youth in the 1960's includes some of our active Church members and leaders today. As today's Youth are growing in the 'nurture and admonition of The Lord', we look forward to them taking leadership responsibilities well into the future. Glen Allen Baptist Church has a long past, as we celebrate our 150th Jubilee anniversary this year, and we look forward to a long and Blessed future under the leadership of dedicated Christians that are growing in our Youth today. If anyone has suggestions for a Glen Allen 'note from the past', historic picture and/or trivia, please get it to the 150th anniversary team or Church office to include in the bulletin during our 150th anniversary, Jubilee year.!
