Daily Bible Readings for the Week of April 2, 2012 - April 8, 2012 Mon., Apr 2 Lead by T ruth and Light Psalm 43 T ue., Apr 3 Walking in God s T ruth Psalm 86:8-13 Wed., Apr 4 Arrest of Jesus John 18:1-11 Thu., Apr 5 Denial of Jesus John 18:12-18 Fri., Apr 6 Questioning of Jesus John 18:19-24 Sat., Apr 7 What Is T ruth? John 8:31-38 Sun., Apr 8 Are You the King? John 18:28-37 Sunday School Lessons Lessons in Living April 2012 The Word Was In the Beginning On Palm and Easter Sunday, we look at the death and resurrection of Jesus as recorded in John. April 1 Jesus Testifies to the Truth John 18:28-37 John agrees with the Synoptic Gospels that Pilate s first question to Jesus was: Are you the king of the Jews? Pliate tries to establish that Jesus is a rebel with military might. Jesus refutes this thought because He came to testify to the truth (John 18:37, NIV) April 8 Resurrection Sunday The Living W ord John 20:1-10, 19-20 The disciples were afraid and locked themselves in a room. They did not expect a resurrection. When Jesus appeared to them, they greatly rejoiced. The Word is Hear and Now T hese three lessons offer a study in the power of Jesus words as He lived among us as a human being. Jesus words have the power not only to purify the T emple, but to restore human life and to heal, as well. April 15 Cleansing the Temple John 2:13-22 The Jewish people had to buy animals or their sacrifices in the temple. Jesus turns over the tables of the money changers in the temple because they should not have been in the temple cheating those who came to buy and worship.
April 22 Woman of Samaria John4:7-15, 23-26, 28-30 The dual meaning of water and the dual boundaries that Jesus crosses are expressed in this story. The living water refers to fresh drinking water or life-giving water (v. 10). Jesus crosses two cultural boundaries in this story: the boundary between Jews and Samaritans and between men and women. April 28 Healing the Blind Man John 9:1-17 The healing power of clay made with spittle was a popular form of healing in the Greco-Roman world. John also writes how a person can have sight but not see, and how a blind man received his sight and the gift to see truth.
