The Laughing Corner A woman in her late forties walked up to a little old man rocking in a chair on his porch. I couldn t help noticing how happy you look, she said. What s your secret for a long happy life? Well the man said, I suppose I m happy because I smoke three packs of cigarettes a day, I drink a case of whiskey a week, I eat hamburgers and French fries every day for lunch, and I never exercise. The woman looked astonished at his answer and said, That is amazing! How old are you? Thirty five, "he said. An old farmer was married to a very critical woman who made his life miserable. The only real peace that he got was when he was plowing his field. One day he was out in the field, his wife stomped out and berated him with a constant stream of nagging and complaining. Suddenly, the farmer s mule kicked up his back legs and struck his wife in the head, killing her instantly. At the wake, the minister noticed that when the women offered their sympathy to the farmer he would nod his head up and down, but when the men came up and spoke quietly to him, he would shake his head from side to side. When the wake was over and all the mourners had left, the minister approached the farmer and asked, Why was it that you nodded your head up and down to all the women and shook your head from side to side to all the men? Well, the farmer replied, the women all said how nice my departed wife looked, and that her dress was pretty, so I agreed by nodding my head up and down. The men all asked, Is your mule for sale? and I shook my head, no. Two men were sitting out on a frozen lake ice fishing. One was having no luck at all and the other was pulling fish after fish out of his hole in the ice. The man having no luck finally leaned over and asked the other what his secret was. Mmm mmm mmm he replied. I m sorry, said the first man, what did you say? Mmmm mmm, mmm he replied. I m sorry, I still didn t understand you. said the first man. The successful fisherman spit something into his hand, and said, You have got to keep your worms warm!
Scripture Memory Verse Isaiah 52:7-10 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns. Listen! Your sentinels lift up their voices, together they sing for joy; for in plain sight they see the return of the LORD to Zion. Break forth together in singing, you ruins of Jerusalem; for the LORD has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. The LORD has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all then nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. Prayer for Reflection Below is a prayer for your own reflection and meditation. Thanks be to thee, my Lord Jesus Christ, For all the benefits thou hast won for me, For all the pains and insults thou has borne for me. O most merciful Redeemer, Friend, and Brother, May I know thee more clearly, Love thee more dearly, And follow thee more nearly: For ever and ever. Richard Chichester (1197 1253) www. ifbc.net
