Mark Wagner, Pastor This year more people have begun to LIVE the faith here at St. Joseph s Parish. Several men are preparing to launch a new program to teach the faith to men; another man is helping us organize door-to-door evangelization, more women joined our MOM s group, and our High School Youth group has become the largest on the West Coast. All of this is part of our efforts to go deeper into the faith during 2014. This year we gathered the various demographical groups for special events aimed at deepening their faith. We had a men s conference with Fr. Wade Menezes to help the men become spiritual leaders. We had a women s conference with Liesa Anslinger to help women recognize their unique gifts and let them shine. We had a huge retreat for teenagers which focused on filling their hearts with the Lord who will satisfy them most deeply. For families we will have an Advent Mission with Fr. Joseph Illo and Fr. Angel Espinoza who will speak about defending marriage and building better families. We have reached out to ALL of our Catholic people to deepen their faith. The church insists that we do this: Strengthened by so many and such great means of salvation, all Live the Faith is published by the Pastor of St. Joseph s Church, h an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for the membership of our parish. All are called the faithful, whatever their condition or state - though each in his own way - are called by the Lord to perfection. (Lumen Gentium #11). St. Joseph s Catholic Church - a Stewardship Parish Next year we will have a new emphasis. Pope Francis has declared that 2015 should be the Year for Consecrated Life during which the Catholic Church throughout the world will honor the consecrated nuns and religious sisters and brothers and priests who seek perfection by taking vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. These people are called to give up everything to follow Jesus in a special relationship of love: Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me. (Mark 10:21) But ALL of us are called. Not everyone is called to be a priest or a nun, but the Lord looks at each one of us, loves us, and calls us to something special. Therefore at St. Joseph s Parish we are going to dedicate 2015 to proclaiming that ALL ARE CALLED. This will be our parish theme for next year. We hope this will make our young people think about being priests or religious sisters, but we want EVERYONE to realize that some are called to vocation of marriage, or to a single life of service in the world. What would it be like to hear the call of God? A call is when one person tries to make contact with another. A call means relationship. Sometimes it is very special when someone calls your name, or when someone calls you on the phone. But a call from God would be much more wonderful than anything we can ever imagine. you have received in your life? For each of us it might be different. For a woman it might be the memory of that first phone call from that first nervous boyfriend. A man might have a childhood memory of being called for a new job or for a sports team. It felt good to hear your name when they picked teams. No guy wants to be picked last. For teenagers it is very important to receive phone calls and texts and tweets and to have lots of friends online who choose them and like them. But for everyone it would be even more satisfying to feel a call from God who loves them more than anybody. The catechism reminds us that EVERY baptized person is called to participate in the mission of the Church: The Christian faithful are those who, inasmuch as they have been incorporated in Christ through Baptism are CALLED to exercise the mission which God has entrusted to the Church to fulfill in the world, in accord with the condition proper to each one. (#872) What is the most memorable call that Volume 2, Issue 4 - December 2014 3

Pray Gratefully. Serve Responsibly. Give Generously. Stewarding your Gifts... Gifts to St. Joseph s Parish come in many forms: gifts of prayer, service and generosity. It is exciting to see these gifts continue to grow in every way! Recognizing that all are called to pray, serve and give in some way, your parish wants to keep growing so that all can answer that call. New ministries, including weekend hours, will be launched in 2015 so that we can offer this opportunity for service. The generosity that our parish provides, both for our parish ministries and for the greater Modesto area, is a blessing for many who are in need of food, shelter and acceptance. Consistent support, in every way, helps our parish provide these services.
