We have had a great week with our three families. The generosity of hospitality in many forms of this congregation makes the week go easier for the families. Each week makes it seem that the families are one step closer to their goal of housing. Thank you to all who gave of their time or donations. Adopt-A-Family Once again, UCPC is participating in Love in the Name of Christ s Adopt-A-Family program. We have been assigned two families: a couple with a teenage daughter and a couple with a 3 year old boy. There will be a tree with stars for shopping ideas in the narthex soon. Besides some of their specific requests, we might consider winter clothing and food ideas. Please wrap your presents if possible. Please turn them in by December 18th. Thank you in advance for your generosity. 4
Christmas Joy Offering I don t usually think of Rwanda when I think of what the Christmas Joy offering can do. However, Joshua Karangwa grew up there and is a 2018 graduate of Presbyterian Pan American School (Pan Am) in Texas. He is continuing his education at Presbyterian related Schreiner University as an engineering student. His goal is to go back and help communities in Rwanda find their own solutions to problems like poor accessibility to water. He says that his faith really flourished while attending Pan Am. This is one example of how the Christmas Joy Offering can help others in the world. Half of this offering goes to students like Joshua who become leaders in various communities and spread the word of God through their work. The other half of this offering goes to the Board of Pensions programs that assist current pastors with unexpected current needs, or retired pastors whose pensions do not cover what their need are today. Please prayerfully consider your gift to this offering. Every generous act of giving is from above. James 1:17 Have you ever had an interest in the church's sound system? The Sound Team needs a couple additions to the team for this essential part of the worship service. We train and work alongside you until you are ready to solo. The rotation gives each team member a scheduled time on the board once a month. The team meets on the first Monday of the month 5pm to 6pm to go over sound issues and a time to listen and pray for each other. If you're interested, contact David Rohwer. 5
UCPC Session News November Session News UCPC s Session held its November meeting at 6:30 PM on 11/15. Pastor McKay moderated. Elders in attendance were Melissa Bierer Randy Frank, Lanien Livingston, Doreen McNeill, Roger Smith, Jane Steeves, and Norma Wivoda. Brian Dixon and David Rohwer were absent. Darlene Peterson represented the Deacons. The main topic at this month s meeting was a discussion of ways we can connect with prospective new young members. Sunday morning breakfast was meant to be a draw for college students; it has not worked on that score, though it is a worthwhile ministry. What other means are there to reach young people? How can we get college and graduate students here? What are the kinds of things that keep youth attending other churches? Some ideas were partnering with the FYNDOUT organization to adopt young single mothers, working with Big Brothers/Big Sisters in some capacity, and inviting the members of UCPC s various user groups to attend services here. Committee Reports: Personnel: Our church secretary is expecting her 3 rd child in early 2019. Nominating: there are several positions open. Faith Development: Youth Group s next event will be to make breakfast burritos for The Door. Building Stewardship: Dave Rohwer plowed snow this past week. We need to look at possibly some other ideas for property snow plowing. Finance report for Session Meeting November 15th 2018.
