ST. PATRICK CHURCH Page 3 PORTLAND, MICHIGAN God's Gifts and Our Desires Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18 There are two desires that lie deep within the human soul: descendants and property. Some people are blessed with plenty of each. Others have very little to show, even for a life lived well. Some people receive descendants and property in different ways. They have students, disciples or friends who admire them and strive to be like them. Or they have access to the land that others own. One need not have blood descendants and deeds of property to make life worthwhile. But it is what many people want. It is what Abram wanted. He was an old man, childless. He lived in Ur of the Chaldeans, in modern day Iraq. God made him a promise. God promised him the two desires that lay deep in his soul: descendants and property. Count the stars, if you can. Just so shall your descendants be. And then, To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the Great River. It was an amazingly generous gift. It could only come from God. It was beyond what someone could even hope for. Because these desires are so strong, people react strongly when something goes wrong with them. If a child turns out different from what one hoped, or if property is vandalized, damaged, or lost people feel a huge sense of betrayal and despair. God knows the desires of our hearts. And God wants to fulfill them with the descendants and property that will unfold the divine plan. Inspiring Quotes by Pope Francis on being Prolife All life has inestimable value even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect. -Message to Catholics taking part in annual Day for Life in Britain and Ireland July 28, 2013 STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as a possession. GENESIS 15:7 Just as the Lord gave Abraham, Moses and the Israelites a land to possess, He has also given each of us a home. Whether our home is grand or humble, it is a gift from God. Abraham prepared a great sacrifice to the Lord in gratitude for the home God gave him. How do we show our gratitude to God for the home He has given us? Do we make a sacrifice of any kind? Do we return any of our finances to God, investing equally in our eternal home just as we invest in our earthly home? Prayer That we be good stewards of the earth and our environment and wisely use its natural resources. Family Perspective By Bud Ozar Jesus went up the mountain to pray and he was changed. Prayer has the power to change us. This Lent set aside a few minutes each day to pray for members of your family. Pray before each meal and if you are married, spend five minutes in prayer together. Your gift to CSA enables diocesan and parish ministries to reach out to people in our 11 counties in a variety of ways, including formation of our seminarians; youth programing ; support for the homebound and those who are incarcerated; families who are struggling; the hungry; and the homeless. Through CSA we all work together to care for the Church by sharing the gifts God has granted us. Our parish goal for 2016 is $123,523.00 and 100% participation, which means a pledge card from every parish family. Please experience the joy of giving and join us as we work to continue God s work of spirituality, charity, and education. I am confident that your generosity will enable us to exceed our goal, but everyone s participation is needed. Keep in mind that any amount raised above our goal stays with this parish. Thank you for doing your part for CSA 2016.

This is great news! We hope that the Lord will use this prominent placement to further inspire people around the world. While in Rome Tim was inspired to create a brand new work celebrating the Year of Mercy. The work is called "Shepherd of Mercy". (Attached please see the 9 inch tall model he created). Tim is very excited about this new work. This depiction of The Good Shepherd is perfectly fitting for the Holy Father's message during this Year of Mercy.
