Sheets for the book, on which you may record the names of persons of significance to you, will be available at the back of the sanctuary each Sunday through November 3. Listings received by October 27, will be recorded on a bulletin insert for the November 3, service. As an expression of thanksgiving, you also are invited to give a gift in memory of the saints of your life. Special envelopes will be available at each entry for this purpose. Though this is not a requirement for listing the saints of your life, your gift will support the mission ministry of the United Methodist Church around the world and right here in Austin.

UMW Honors Afton and Don Cherry The United Methodist Women traditionally honor people they feel have made a difference in the lives of others by a gift to the mission field. A gift honoring Don and Afton Cherry was made so that for three minutes all around the world, mission was done in their names. This presentation had been scheduled in September but due to Don s illness it was delayed. The presentation was made at Don s bedside with family and friends surrounding him and Afton. Afton has been a worker in many UMW projects and she has been the sole supplier of the prayer shawls given to so many. Don contributed so much through his hard work and his own money to beautify the church grounds. We love you and we thank you and Don will be missed. Pg. 2

United Methodist Women by Jane Friedrich BIF will meet November 5, in the Pearce Room. Stephanie Lacy always has a good program so join us at 9:30 a.m. LAMPLIGHTERS will meet November 21, in the N.E.W. Room at 7:00 p.m. Plans for 2014 will be evaluated. As always, our goal is to keep the sanctuary updated to enhance our congregation s time with God. READING AND LIBRARY will meet November 14, where library reorganization is our ongoing project. Join us at 7:00 p.m. President Alberta Shelton has prepared a UMW report for October. It is so informative that it should be shared with all of you, so you will know what we ve been up to lately! Here it is: Billie Talley and Alberta Shelton attended the Annual District Meeting in Industry, Texas. We were happy to visit with Reverend Carrazco. Money was sent to the mission field and the candle burned in memory of Mable Raup, Sophia Bostick, and Suzanne Wright. It was too late to include Marcia Garrett s name - - we will honor her next year. Memorial was recognized for holding two of the required studies (being a five star unit means we gave money to missions in all the required categories, and for the 17th year we met all the requirements to be a member of the Charter Club. The following members were recognized for participation in the Reading Program - Plan III - Norma Jones; Plan I - Billie Talley, Joanne Macon, Jane Friedrich, Kay Dunbar, Virginia Smith, and Alberta Shelton. Norma Hauser and Alberta Shelton were recognized as Five Star Women. The Unit made their annual pledge of $1,000 to missions. Special membership pens were given in honor of Afton and Don Cherry. (See Alberta s article on page 2). Alberta made a presentation on immigration issues to the Crestview UMW Unit. continued Third Grade Bible Pg. 3 News from the Pews On September 22, we were privileged to give a student a Bible. She was Lillia Mohler, daughter of Marinda Mohler, granddaughter of Don and Gail Mohler and great-granddaughter of John and Billie Nixon. Lillia is a student at Cedar Park Elementary School in Cedar Park, Texas. Congratulations to the Mohler family and we at Memorial are honored to be a part of your Christian training. New Baby United Methodist Women continued We continue to provide pancakes the first Sunday of every month. Join us for food and fellowship. We appreciate your participation. Proceeds help us meet our budgetary obligations and provide food and fellowship to all. Just received the good news that Bob and Norma Hauser s first great-grandchild was born. Cooper Isaiah Danks arrived on October 7, 2013, about 6 pm, at St. David s Women s Center in Round Rock. He was a few weeks premature, weighing 6 pounds 12 ounces. Cooper is the son of Jordan and Ashley Danks of Round Rock, Texas. Ashley is the daughter of Reggie and Cammie Hauser, and Tim and Tracey Todd. Great-grandparents are Norma and Bob Hauser. Grandparents are John and Renee Danks of Round Rock, Tim and Tracy Todd of Austin, and Reggie and Cammie Hauser of Round Rock, Texas. Ask proud Grandma Norma to see the cute pictures of baby Cooper!
