What moments in your life have you felt close to God or understood his clear direction for your life?

Transcription:

And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought Jesus up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord ) and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons. Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, Luke 2:22-35 (ESV)

and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord s Christ (Messiah). And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for Him according to the Law, he (Simeon) took Him (Jesus) up in his arms and blessed God and said, Luke 2:22-35 (ESV)

Consolation: paraklesis which means one who comes alongside with comfort, counsel, exhortation and encouragement. It is the comfort received by a person after a loss or disappointment. The comfort given to someone who has suffered.

One who is called to the side of another

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Parakletos = Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart], because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you. John 14:16-17 (AMP)

and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to Your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel. And Jesus father and mother marveled at what was said about Him. And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, Luke 2:22-35 (ESV)

Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also, so that thoughts from many hearts will be revealed. Luke 2:22-35 (ESV)

And child, you will be called a prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare His ways, to give His people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins. Because of our God s merciful compassion, the Dawn from on high will visit us to shine on those who live in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. Luke 1:76-79 (HCSB)

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. John 3:16-17 (ESV)

But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. At dawn He went to the temple complex again, and all the people were coming to Him. He sat down and began to teach them. Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, making her stand in the center. Teacher, they said to Him, this woman was caught in the act of committing adultery. John 8:1-12 (HCSB)

In the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do You say? They asked this to trap Him, in order that they might have evidence to accuse Him. Jesus stooped down and started writing on the ground with His finger. When they persisted in questioning Him, He stood up and said to them, The one without sin among you should be the first to throw a stone at her. John 8:1-12 (HCSB)
