Pastor s Message December 2018 What do you think of this Christmas To Do list I found on Facebook? Wouldn t Christmas be so much happier and better if we would choose to lose some of the commercialism and get back to a simpler Christmas? That is going to be the Christmas series I will be preaching during Advent.

Pastor s Page (cont.) We will be spending time each Sunday reviewing some famous Christmas Movies and what each one teaches us about focusing on Jesus and the real meaning of Christmas this year. We will look at Charlie Brown, The Grinch, Narnia and my favorite It s A Wonderful Life. Make plans now that each Sunday you will be a part of the Advent Season at Market Street Presbyterian Church. See you Sunday! Pastor Dottie **************************** News from Session Update from Session on entering the church on Sunday mornings. The church doors will be unlocked beginning at 10:00 am and Greeters will be available to assist our members and visitors as needed. At 10:30 am, the Courtyard door will be locked and those arriving after the service begins will be instructed to enter through the elevator entrance. Our custodian will be available to assist any late arrivers finding their way to the sanctuary. Our custodian will also be willing to assist anyone from their cars when the parking lot is snowy or icy. Also, if you are approached by someone asking for money, please direct them to speak to the Pastor who has funds available for appropriate response to their needs. These changes are being implemented for the safety of everyone and have been made following discussion with other congregations in the Lima area. If you have any questions, please talk with the Pastor. **************************** MISSIONS OUR PROJECTS The 15 Christmas Angels from the Salvation Army were adopted on Sunday November 25. They are due back at the church on Dec. 10, so that the gifts arrive at the SA on time. If you weren t in church on November 25 th to get an Angel you may consider a gift for the Crossroads Crisis Center or one of our other mission projects we do. We will be having a gift wrapping benefit for Samaritan House on Dec 14th and 15 th upstairs in the room next to the elevator from 10:00 am 4:00 pm. You may be familiar with this fund raiser being held at the Mall or at De Haven s. Volunteers wrap gifts in exchange for a free will donation. We will need additional hands to help with this project. If you (cont.)

Missions (cont.) are able to donate a few hours we would certainly appreciate your help. You could also bring in your gifts for wrapping. Samaritan House will be supplying all the materials needed. It could also be a good time for coffee and donuts! How about a bake sale to raise additional funds for Samaritan House? Diane, Sharon or I will be glad to take note of times you may be available to help on these days. Also, you will find enclosed in this month s Digest, offering envelopes for the Christmas Joy Offering, which we will be receiving on Sunday, December 23 rd or you can mail to MSPC at 1100 W. Market Street, Lima, Ohio 45805 Attn.: Anieta Harriman. Karen Jarvis, for the Mission Committee ************************** CHRISTMAS EVE CANDLELIGHT SERVICE & CANTATA Come and join us at Market Street Presbyterian Church on Monday, December 24 th at 7:00 p.m. as we celebrate Our Savior s birth with our traditional Christmas Eve Candlelight Service and Communion. We will be having the Cantata Let There Be Christmas by Joseph M. Martin featuring the church s mixed quartet The Jubilate Deo Singers (Victoria Recker, Karen Finn, John Hutchinson and Chrissy Wenning) accompanied by our pianist/organist, Troy Reineke. Please invite your family and friends! ************************** 1 ST CORINTHIANS 13 If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls, but do not show love to my family, I m just another decorator. If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime, but do not show love to my family, I m just another cook. If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home and give all that I have to charity, but do not show love to my family, it profits me nothing. If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties and sing in the choir s cantata, but do not focus on those I love the most, I have missed the point. In other words: Love stops the cooking to hug a child; Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the spouse, Love is kind, though harried and tired. Love doesn t envy another s home that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens. Love doesn t yell at the kids to get out of the way, but is thankful they are there to be in the way. Love doesn t give only to those who are able to give in return, but rejoices in giving to those who can t. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. Video games will break, pearl necklaces will be lost, golf clubs will rust. But the gift of love will endure.

A COLONIAL CHRISTMAS TEA WHEN: Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. WHERE: Market Street Presbyterian Church 1100 West Market Street Lima, Ohio 45805 See You There! Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from the employees of MSPC Pastor Dottie Kaiser, Anieta Harriman, Sandy Lybarger, John Hutchinson, Troy Reineke, Tina Pack, Donald Cockrell, and Juaon Jennings. THANK YOU! Thank you so much for allowing us to use the Fellowship Hall for our event on Tuesday, November 13 th. We appreciate the Church s generosity and being a welcoming community partner. If you have any pastoral concerns, please call the church office at 419-229-9040 during Monday Thursday from 8:30 am 5:00 pm or contact Pastor Dottie at 419-233-1880(cell) or 419-222-1317(home). If no answer, please leave a message. Dear Friends at MSPC, Thanksgiving marks the perfect time to gather around the kitchen table and celebrate life s abundance with family and friends. Thanks to your $50.00 donation to West Ohio Food Bank many hard working individuals and families had food on the table this Thanksgiving. Thank you again for supporting the fight against hunger. Together, we are making a difference! THANK YOU!!! Warm regards, Linda Hamilton CEO of WOFB Your continued support continues to amaze! God Bless You! The Staff Samaritan House UPDATE ON LOUISE PRANSES FROM HER DAUGHTER, RENEE - She wanted me to share several things. She is going to be with me through the winter months. Her Dr. said that she needs to avoid going to closed places w/lots of people -specifically church. He wants her to get through this winter. Then he feels her strength will allow her to resume where she left off. Also, although she is always grateful for flowers and visits she feels you should give them to others more deserving (true Louise way!) We all thank you, her church family! You all mean the world to her and I would appreciate it if you would let everyone know her update! She's slowly plugging along! This all took a huge toll on her, but she's one strong lady and a true fighter! She's walking around my block daily and I believe slowly but surely, getting back on the right track! Thank you all for all of your support. Prayers and love! Renee
