The First Congregational Church of Greenwich Founded in 1665 3 July 2016 10 o clock in the morning Jimmy Kastner is a photographer from Somerville, New Jersey, who has published work all over the world. He is best known for his landscapes and city shots, including the recent photo of the moon balancing on the Statue of Liberty s torch; a shot he planned out by anticipating where the moon would appear over the statue from a vantage point in Liberty State Park. This shot is among thousands of others in his daily photo project which he has been working on for four years. More of his work can be found on his site, jimmykastner.com.

CALL TO CONGREGATIONAL MEETING CALL TO WORSHIP PRAISING GOD Leader: In this land of freedom and beauty, let us give thanks to God. People: Let us praise the holy one who created the blue lakes and grassy prairies, the vast desert lands, and the breathtaking mountains of our homeland. Leader: Let us unite in worship of the Creator who formed all lands and all people. People: Who declared, with loving affirmation, It is good! All: Come, let us worship God!

CHORAL INTROIT HYMN O Beautiful for Spacious Skies Pilgrim (red) Hymnal 440 UNISON PRAYER FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY We lift up our hearts, O God, on this weekend of celebration in gratitude for the gift of being Americans. We rejoice with all those who share in the great dream of freedom and dignity for all. With flags and feasting, with family and friends we salute those who have sacrificed that we might have the opportunity to bring to fulfillment our many God-given gifts. Come, O gracious God, bless our country and join our simple celebration that we may praise you, our Source of freedom, the One in whom we place our trust. All of this we ask in Christ name, who taught us to pray: Ed Hays LORD'S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Following the Lord s Prayer, children will leave with Rosemary for Church School Summer Faith. HEARING GOD'S WORD FIRST LESSON Jean Watkins Exodus 14: 15-16, 22-25 Then the LORD said to Moses, Why do you cry out to me? Tell the Israelites to go forward. But you lift up your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the Israelites may go into the sea on dry ground. Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. The LORD drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned the sea into dry land; and the waters were divided. The Israelites went into the sea on dry ground, the waters forming a wall for them on their right and on their left. The Egyptians pursued, and

went into the sea after them, all of Pharaoh s horses, chariots, and chariot drivers. At the morning watch the LORD in the pillar of fire and cloud looked down upon the Egyptian army, and threw the Egyptian army into panic. He clogged their chariot wheels so that they turned with difficulty. The Egyptians said, Let us flee from the Israelites, for the LORD is fighting for them against Egypt. Martin SECOND LESSON 2 Corinthians 3: 17-18 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit. THE SACRAMENT OF COMMUNION This morning s communion is by intinction. Everyone is invited to come forward to one of the communion stations. All are welcome at the table of God! INVITATION PRAYER OF CONSECRATION WORDS OF INSTITUTION RECEIVING THE BREAD AND CUP UNISON PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING Gracious God, in gratitude, in deep gratitude, for this moment, this meal, these people. We give ourselves to you. Take us out to live as changed people because we have shared the Living Bread and cannot remain the same. Ask much of us, expect much from us, enable much by us, encourage many through us. Amen. GOING FORTH TO SERVE GOD *HYMN My Country, Tis of Thee Pilgrim (red) Hymnal 437 *BENEDICTION POSTLUDE Stars and Stripes Forever John Philip Sousa (1854-1932) Mary Fike, Piccolo We have child care for babies and toddlers every Sunday in the Preschool classrooms. Please see an usher if you need help finding either of these locations. Child care remains available at the 10:00 am service every Sunday for babies through 4 years old. The 10:00 am Service is broadcast live each week on WGCH 1490 AM Radio. In addition, the service is available through the church s website: www.fccog.org.
