SHOW US YOUR GLORY Part 7: Conclusion: Live for His Glory (No. 1110 - NLC) I. IMPORTANCE OF GIVING GLORY TO GOD A. Luke 17:12-19 (NKJV): 12 Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. 13 And they lifted up their voices and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us! 14 So when He saw them, He said to them, Go, show yourselves to the priests. And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed. 15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. 17 So Jesus answered and said, Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18 Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner? 19 And He said to him, Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well. B. John 7:18 (NAS): He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him. C. Rom. 4:18-21: 18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, So shall your offspring be. 19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old and that Sarah's womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what He had promised. D. Rom. 15:6-9: 6 So that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. 8 For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God's truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs 9 so that the Gentiles may glorify God for His mercy, as it is written: Therefore I will 49
praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to Your name. E. Acts 12:23 (NAS): And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him [Herod] because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died. F. Rev. 14:6-7: 6 Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth to every nation, tribe, language and people. 7 He said in a loud voice, Fear God and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come. Worship Him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water. II. EVERY CREATURE IN HEAVEN GIVES GLORY TO GOD A. Rev. 4:9-11: 9 Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and worship Him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: 11 You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being. B. Rev. 5:11-13: 11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they sang: Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise! 13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever! C. Rev. 7:11-12: 11 All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying: Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen! D. Rev. 19:1-7: 1 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting: Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God 6 Then I heard what 50 2016-07-06-show-us-your-glory-part07-live-for-his-glory-pastor-wayne-pratt.doc
sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: "Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. 7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready. III. DOXOLOGIES IN THE NEW TESTAMENT A doxology (from the Greek doxa = glory, honor praise ) is a short expression giving praise and glory to God; here are some examples from the New Testament: A. Mat. 6:13 (NKJV): And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. B. Rom. 11:36: For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen. C. Rom. 16:27: To the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen. D. 1 Tim. 1:17: Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen. E. Heb. 13:20-21: 20 May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21 equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to Whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. F. 1 Pet. 4:11: If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. G. 2 Pet. 3:18: But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen. H. Jude 24-25: 24 To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence [ presence of His glory NKJV] without fault and with great joy 25 to the only God our 51
Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen. I. Rev. 1:5-6: 5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood, 6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve His God and Father to Him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. IV. PRACTICAL WAYS TO GLORIFY GOD A. 1 Cor. 10:31: So whether you eat or drink or WHATEVER YOU DO, do it all for the glory of God. B. Eph. 3:20-21: 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. C. Singing, praising, giving thanks, worshiping in Spirit and truth, etc. (Psalms) 1. With heart and emotion laughter, rejoicing, weeping, mourning 2. With all our strength entire physical being 3. With our lips, mouths & voices (shouting, crying, being loud) 4. With our hands (clapping, lifting) 5. With our eyes lifted 6. Kneeling, bowing down, prostrating ourselves before the Lord 7. Dancing, jumping, leaping D. Declaring & confessing God s word 1. Heb. 10:23 (KJV): Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised;) 2. 2 Cor. 1:20: For no matter how many promises God has made, they are Yes in Christ. And so through Him the Amen is spoken by us to the glory of God. E. Through good works & fruitfulness 52 2016-07-06-show-us-your-glory-part07-live-for-his-glory-pastor-wayne-pratt.doc
1. Mat. 5:16 (NKJV): Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. 2. 1 Pet. 2:12: Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. 3. Phil. 1:9-11: 9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God. 4. John 15:8: This is to My Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be My disciples. F. Even through death 1. John 21:18-19: 18 I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go. 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then He said to him, Follow Me! 2. Phil. 1:20-21: 20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. V. SUMMARY OF WAYS WE CAN HINDER THE GLORY OF GOD A. Pride, seeking glory for ourselves B. Honoring anyone or anything above the Lord putting other gods before Him (idolatry) C. Lack of reverence & holy fear of God He is a consuming fire D. The leaven of selfishness, disobedience, & unconfessed sin remember Ichabod E. Neglecting grace and truth Christ reflected glory because He was full of both! 53
F. Unbelief (John 11:40) VI. CONCLUSION VII. The whole earth is full of God s glory; the heavens are declaring His glory; wherever God is, whatever He does there will be glory! But man sinned and missed the mark he fell short of the glory of God. God s glory IS the mark, the goal, the bull seye. The great and grand purpose of Christ s redemptive work on the cross was to restore fallen man to the glory of God. Through the gospel of the glory of Christ, God now shines into the darkened hearts of sinners, giving them the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ and transforming them into the very likeness of His radiant Son with ever-increasing glory. Lord, show us Your glory, and to You be all glory through Jesus Christ forever and ever. Amen. APPENDIX: GLORIOUS THINGS IN SCRIPTURE A. God s presence (Isa. 3:8; Jude 24) B.
