May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan and all evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. From the Pastor Living a full spiritual life.. We believe that God is creator of all that is visible and invisible. Reality is not simply what we can see, taste, touch, smell, measure etc There are spiritual realities that, even though they cannot be measured, do exist. In the created order of the invisible, there exists a spiritual battle happening. There are created spiritual beings who are perfectly in love with God and they are there to help us to love Him. We call them angels. There are also created spiritual beings that are against God and His plan to save us, we call them evil spirits or demons. While we should not be preoccupied with anxiety about this battle, neither can we afford to be ignorant about it. Many people have been led to think that this is an exciting fantasy that provides good material for the movies or novels. As Christ himself tells us, this battle is real and it is something that we must confront with the victorious love of Christ. There are numerous instances in the Gospel that we hear about the power that Jesus has power over demons. The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name! (Luke 10:17) Not only do Satan and his helpers want to bring us farther from God, but also he is always trying to make inroads in undermining Christ s Church. When there are acts of vandalism to a Church, when there unholy things done in the name of the Church, when holy things are used for evil purposes, we see evidence of Satan s work. We only have to look as recent as the Pennsylvania report to see how the Evil One has been at work to undermine the mission of the Church in past decades encouraging priests to abuse and tempting bishops to compromise when dealing with it. And we can see that it is not just those priests and bishops who are affected. Even now, when we see evidence of his handiwork, he tempts Christians to doubt in the holiness of God s Church and its mission. (God s Church is holy because he is the soul of His Church but not all of the members we who still choose to sin are not yet holy.) Christ gave the authority to cast out demons to His Church and the Church has always been vigilant about this. The Church s mission is to make saints. This requires us to welcome God into our life and to make known that those who are against God s plan for us are not welcome. That is why after each Sunday Mass in our parishes, we will pray the prayer to St. Michael. This prayer is known to be effective in casting out and guarding us from the influence of evil spirits. Praying this as one community of believers will help us and our families to walk more closely with the Lord. How blessed we are to know that we have helpers like St. Michael and all the angels who are guiding us and helping us to walk with Christ. Your servant in Christ, Fr. Bennett
The Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time September 9, 2018 Collaborative Meetings Tuesday, September 18 th at 7pm (at St. Elizabeth lower hall) Wednesday, September 19 th at 9:30am (at St. Mary of the Hills lower hall) Parishioners are encouraged to attend the time that is most convenient for you. Parishioners from St. Mary s are encouraged to go to St. Elizabeth if that time works best for you and parishioners from St. Elizabeth are encouraged to go to St. Mary s if that time works best for you. It is my hope that with this conversation we can start to think about how we can make our parishes and collaborative stronger. There are many good things happening in each parish and the more we can share these blessings, the stronger we will be. Let us continue to pray for one another that we might each hear how the Lord is asking us to help strengthen his Church and share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
