And don t forget to find and follow the Trust on Facebook by searching @ClergyTrust. Thank you in advance for your generous and prayerful support of our priests. From the Pastor Ut unum sint. That they may be one. (John 17:21) When Jesus prayed this prayer to the Father before his Passion, He could see all moments in history where His people would be divided. And so, he prayed this prayer so that for all eternity His children might be united in the truth of His love. The collaboration between St. Mary and St. Elizabeth parishes that we began this past June is beginning realization of the Lord s prayer for us to have our two parishes united in our common mission of bringing all people to love God with our whole person. I am most grateful to all who helped to organize the Installation Mass for me as your pastor. The staff and volunteers from both parishes really made it a blessed moment in the very beginning of the union of our two parishes. Thank you. After the Mass itself, the first thing that struck me was the great representation of parishioners from both parishes that attended the Mass and the reception downstairs. In his 1995 encyclical, Ut unum sint, Pope St. John Paul II wrote, This unity, which the Lord has bestowed on his Church is not something added on, but stands at the very heart of Christ's mission. Nor is it some secondary attribute of the community of his disciples. Rather, it belongs to the very essence of this community. The fact that we had a good number of people from our parishes united in the common celebration of the Mass this past weekend is a very hopeful starting point for our collaboration. To become a true community of disciples means that we need to continue to bring about unity in our common mission. While we will continue to be two parishes, unity suggests that each of us needs to start to see ourselves as parishioners of two parishes. This week there will be two opportunities for us to gather together again. I encourage everyone to attend one of the town hall collaborative meetings that we will have this week. They will be: Tuesday, September 18 th at 7pm at St. Elizabeth s lower hall Wednesday, September 19 th at 9:30am at St. Mary s lower hall My understanding is that a few years back, there was an initial introduction to collaboration. However, now that we are in collaboration, I think there needs to be a more substantial introduction to what we are doing as we bring together St. Mary s and St. Elizabeth s. I will leave you with these final words from St. John Paul II: To believe in Christ means to desire unity; to desire unity means to desire the Father's plan from all eternity. Such is the meaning of Christ's prayer: " Ut unum sint. Your servant in Christ, Fr. Bennett
The Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 16, 2018 Collaborative Meetings Tuesday, September 18 th at 7pm (at St. Elizabeth lower hall) Wednesday, September 19 th at 9:30am (at St. Mary of the Hills lower hall) Parishioners are encouraged to attend the time that is most convenient for you. Parishioners from St. Mary s are encouraged to go to St. Elizabeth if that time works best for you and parishioners from St. Elizabeth are encouraged to go to St. Mary s if that time works best for you. It is my hope that with this conversation we can start to think about how we can make our parishes and collaborative stronger. There are many good things happening in each parish and the more we can share these blessings, the stronger we will be. Let us continue to pray for one another that we might each hear how the Lord is asking us to help strengthen his Church and share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
