Transcription:

All saints being united to Jesus Christ their head, by his Spirit and by faith, have fellowship with him in his graces, sufferings, death, resurrection, and glory: and, being united to one another in love, they have communion in each other s gifts and graces, and are obliged to the performance of such duties, public and private, as to conduce to their mutual good, both in the inward and outward man. Saints by their profession are bound to maintain an holy fellowship and communion in the worship of God, and in performing such other spiritual services as tend to their mutual edification; as also in relieving each other in outward things, according to their several abilities and necessities. Which communion, as God offereth opportunity, is to be extended unto all those who, in every place, call upon the name of the Lord Jesus. Preparation for Worship We come to worship from a busy and noisy world. As we prepare to offer ourselves in praise and adoration of God, it is important that we step back from our preoccupations and focus our thoughts on God. We ask that you please turn off all cell phones and pagers. As the music begins this morning, please take time to become more aware of the continuing presence of God. Stand as you are able BELL PRELUDE Bwana Awabariki Susan T. Nelson Covenant Ringers PRELUDE Benedictus Max Reger CHORAL INTROIT Let All Things Now Living ASH GROVE Junior Choir Let all things now living a song of thanksgiving to God our creator triumphantly raise; who fashioned and made us, protected and stayed us, by guiding us on to the end of our days. God s banners are o er us, pure light goes before us, a pillar of fire shining forth in the night; till shadows have vanished, all fearfulness banished, as forward we travel from light into light. DOXOLOGY (PLEASE STAND AS THE ORGAN INTRODUCTION BEGINS) OLD HUNDREDTH Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. CALL to WORSHIP God of the ages, we praise you for all your servants, who have done justice, loved mercy, and walked humbly with their God. For apostles and martyrs and saints of every time and place, who in life and death have witnessed to your truth, For all your servants who have faithfully served you, witnessed bravely, and died in faith, who still are shining lights in the world, For those no longer remembered, who earnestly sought you in darkness, who held fast their faith in trial, and served others, For those we have known and loved, who by their faithful obedience and steadfast hope, have shown the same mind that was in Christ Jesus, Keep us grateful for their witness, and like them, eager to follow in the way of Christ.

Then at the last, bring us with them to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. (Book of Common Worship, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) HYMN 526 For All the Saints SINE NOMINE PRAYER of CONFESSION SILENT PRAYER KYRIE Eternal God, in every age you have raised up men and women to live and die in faith. We confess that we are indifferent to your will. You call us to proclaim your name, but we are silent. You call us to do what is just, but we remain idle. You call us to live faithfully, but we are afraid. In your mercy, forgive us. Give us courage to follow in your way, that joined with those from ages past, who have served you with faith, hope, and love, we may inherit the kingdom you promised in Jesus Christ. Amen. ASSURANCE OF PARDON RESPONSE: Friends, believe the good news. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

ANTHEM You Are Mine David Haas The Covenant Singers Gabrielle Owen, flute Abby Lindsey, cello Scott Stratton-Smith, piano I will come to you in the silence, I will lift you from all your fear. You will hear my voice, I claim you as my choice, be still and know I am here. Do not be afraid, I am with you. I have called you each by name. Come and follow me, I will bring you home; I love you and you are mine. I am hope for all who are hopeless, I am eyes for all who long to see. In the shadows of the night I will be your light, come and rest in me. Do not be afraid, I am with you I am strength for all the despairing, healing for the ones who dwell in shame. All the blind will see, the lame will all run free, and all will know my name. Do not be afraid, I am with you I am the Word that leads all to freedom, I am the peace the world cannot give. I will call your name, embracing all your pain, stand up, now walk, and live! Alice Parker and Robert Shaw Matthew Adrian, bass O, when shall I see Jesus, And reign with Him above, And shall hear the trumpet sound in that morning. And from the flowing fountain Drink everlasting love, And shall hear the trumpet sound in that morning. Shout O glory, for I shall mount above the skies, When I hear the trumpet sound in that morning. When shall I be delivered from this vain world of sin, And shall hear the trumpet sound in that morning. And with my blessed Jesus Drink endless pleasures in, And shall hear the trumpet sound in that morning. Shout O glory... Through grace I am determined to conquer though I die, And shall hear the trumpet sound in that morning. And then away to Jesus On wings of love I'll fly, And shall hear the trumpet sound in that morning. SERMON Zacchaeus Today John Wilkinson HYMN 355 Hear the Good News of Salvation NETTLETON AFFIRMATION of FAITH From the Second Helvetic Confession, 1561 What is the church? The Church is an assembly of the faithful called or gathered out of the world; a communion of all saints, of those who truly know and rightly worship and serve the true God in Christ the Savior, by the Word and Holy Spirit, and who by faith are partakers of all benefits which are freely offered through Christ. They are all citizens of the one city, living under the same Lord, under the same laws and in the same fellowship of all good things. Amen. PRAYERS of the PEOPLE (Prayer request cards can be found in the pew racks) and THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. PRESENTATION of OFFERINGS ANTHEM How Glorious Your Name Robert E. Kreutz O Lord, our God, how glorious is your name throughout all the earth. Your name, O Lord, is mighty and powerful! You are exalted in splendor and majesty above the heavens, O Lord. Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings comes praise. Out of the minds of men and nations comes wondrous praise. When I behold the sight of your heavens, the flawless work of your fingers, when I behold the moon and the stars which you have set in place. What is man that you should be mindful of him? You, O Lord, will silence the hostile and quiet the vengeful, because of your foes you have fashioned their praise and silenced the hostile and made quiet the vengeful

RESPONSE foes. O Lord, our God, how glorious is your name throughout all the earth! - adapted from Psalm 8 ALL: The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. God of life and glory, you have given us a share in the inheritance of the saints in light. They surround our steps as we journey on towards the splendor of the eternal city. Open our eyes to see the radiance of your glory; and bring us to rejoice with them in your everlasting kingdom, where there is no dark nor dazzling but one equal light; and where in light undimmed, unending, you are worshipped and adored. Amen. HYMN 442 The Church s One Foundation AURELIA CHARGE and BENEDICTION CHORAL RESPONSE GREETING POSTLUDE Comes Autumn Time Leo Sowerby
