Resurrection Lutheran Church Resurrection Lutheran Church s Mission: Sharing the Love of God God s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that God loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. John 4: 9-11 Personal Invitations As Christians, there are just certain things we do: we serve people in need, we worship God, we read the Bible, we forgive, and so on. One essential faith practice that often gets overlooked, however, is personally inviting someone else into a faith relationship with God. This personal invitation into a faith relationship with God could be an invitation to a friend to Easter Sunday worship, it could be an invitation to help pack food boxes at the food pantry, or it could be an invitation to prayer. Regardless of the event or the ministry, it is all an invitation and welcome into the Christian faith community and ultimately, into a faith relationship with God. Most likely someone invited us into faith and nurtured our Christian faith. It could have been a family member over a long period of time or it could have been a friend that invited us to worship for the first time in twenty years. When we think back, we can probably identify some of those people who invited and welcomed us into God s love. Because someone else took seriously the faith practice of personal invitation, we know Jesus Christ and God s grace that comes with our faith. Resurrection Lutheran Church Core Values April 2017 Worship: Gather around Word and Sacrament to receive the good news of God s grace and to respond in daily discipleship. Discipleship: Grow in faith, love, and obedience to the will of God through prayer, study, fellowship, worship, stewardship, service, and justice. Outreach: Invite and welcome our neighbors to experience the love of God here at Resurrection and within the Church universal.
P AGE 2 This isn t about a membership drive or bolstering Resurrection s numbers, but it flows out of our mission to share the love of God. Jesus sends his disciples to share the good news of God s love, to forgive sins, to serve others, and to invite and welcome more and more people into a faith relationship with God. Would you please add to your prayers an openness to who you might invite? Furthermore, would you be willing to add to your prayers a prayer for the courage to extend an invitation? You can trust that the Holy Spirit is part of this whole process, especially after that invitation is extended. Easter Sunday can be a good time to extend an invitation to worship. Who do you know that just might be open to an invitation? Plus, there s an egg hunt right after worship! Who do you know that just might take you up on your invitation, Hey, do you want to go to worship with me on Easter? I ll pick you up! Or check out all ministry happening this month at Resurrection (i.e. small groups, sip-n-paint, service events, etc.), and prayerfully think about who you might invite to participate with you.
