September 2018 Gems by Reverend Julie Discover The Divinity Within You According to an old Hindu legend, there was a time when all men were gods. However, they so abused their divinity that Brahma, the chief god, decided to take it away from them and hide it where they would never again find it. Where to hide it became the big question. When Brahma called the lesser gods into Council to discuss the question, they said "we will bury man's divinity deep in the earth." But Brahma said, "no, that will not do! For man will dig deep down into the earth and find it." Then they suggested, "let us sink man's divinity into the deepest ocean." And again Brahma replied, "no, not there! Man will learn to dive into the deepest waters and will find it." Then the lesser gods said, "we will take it to the top of the highest mountain and hide it there." But again, Brahma replied, "No! For eventually man will climb every high mountain on the earth and find it there and take it up again for himself." Then the lesser gods gave up and concluded, "we do not know where to hide it, for it seems there is no place on earth or in the sea that man will not eventually reach." Then Brahma said, "here is what we will do with man's divinity. We will hide it deep down within himself for he will never think to look for it there." Ever since then, the legend concludes that man has been going up and down the earth, climbing, digging, diving, exploring, searching for something that is already inside himself. Over two thousand year ago, a holy man named Jesus found it and shared its secret. But in the movement that sprang up in his name, the divinity in all of us has been the best kept secret of the ages. Join me on Wednesdays, beginning September 26th at 6:30, for an 8-week class that will explore the Divinity that lies within each of us. Eric Butterworth's book, Discover the Power Within You will be available for sale at the first class. Hope to see you there! Blessings, Rev Julie

Julie Johnson: Joyce Lewis: Doug Kromer: Diane Grey: Barbara West: Cecilia Lea: Pat Paullus: Ronnie McCarthy: Board of Directors Reverend President Vice President Treasurer Secretary Member at Large Member at Large Alternate Published monthly by Unity Chapel of Light Drumming Circle Resumes Friday, Sept. 07 6:30 pm Charles Fillmore, Unity s Co-founder, writes on Prayer From Charles Fillmore s Teach Us To Pray ALL DOWN the ages man has been making the spiritual effort to realize conscious union with that innermost center where Truth in all its glory abides eternally. This realization can be accomplished only through true prayer. The disciples of Jesus earnestly importuned, Lord, teach us to pray. Today, as disciples of the Master, we are asking of Him to be taught the way of unifying our consciousness with God-Mind. His instructions to the disciples were But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee. It is difficult to improve upon this simple method. Quietly entering the inner chamber within the soul, shutting the door to the external thoughts of daily life, and seeking conscious union with God is the highest form of prayer we know. The purpose of the silence is to still the activity of the individual thought so that the still small voice of God may be heard. For in the silence Spirit speaks Truth to us and just that Truth of which we stand in need. Prayer is man s steady effort to know God. There is an intimate connecting spirit that logically unites man and his source. This connecting spirit is the divine Logos, the Word of God, which in truth reveals the logic of Scripture. Because of this fact man instinctively feels and knows whence his help comes. God-Mind, composed of radiant ideas, vibrant life, glorious new inspiration, is ours to use. Since we are the I will man in the supreme Godhead, let us through Jesus Christ realize our spiritual importance. Let us think deeply on the divine Logos, the Word of God! In it is the living impetus that is bound to vitalize the soul of man and enable him to develop his latent powers. When we awaken even a very slight consciousness of this cooperative spirit, we become co-creators with God, and we find we can adjust any condition that comes into our life. Jesus was so completely unified with God-Mind that He could claim the words He spoke to be not His but those of the Father dwelling within Him. Through prayer we gain the intimate relationship with God that Jesus must have enjoyed when He said, I and the Father are one. Jesus Christ is our teacher and helper. In prayer what should be our attitude, our interest, as we approach the divine presence? If we knew that right now we were about to be ushered into the presence of Christ, to what extent would our spiritual expectancy be aroused? No doubt we should be thrilled through and through at the mere thought. Let us feel this same intense interest, this same concern, as we approach the divine presence within ourselves. It will add much to the readiness with which we receive Truth.

An Invitation to Help with Hospitality Our fellowship time, after Sunday Service, here at the Chapel of Light is so special. We offer a variety of things that equal a small lunch. The hospitality team, of just three people, need a bit of help to keep this going. We offer a way that everyone in the church can have the joy of contributing to this beautiful time of food, conversation and spiritual community. Here is how it works. If your last name begins with the letter a, b, c, d, e, or f you are invited to bring something on the first Sunday of the month. If your last name begins Here is an Angel reminder about the fall. The harvest is a time of gathering together of both crops and people. We come together in joy to share in the bounty of God. That is the intent of Charlie s Angels to come together in joy and service. A big thank you goes out to everyone who supported the Ice Cream Social in August. $200.00 was gathered together to buy every manner of school supplies for the children at the Good Samaritan Homeless Shelter. Our next meal for the Homeless shelter will be served on Sat. Sept. 15th. We are always looking for volunteers to get involved in this outreach. Evidence of Angels (What s Up With Charlie s Angels?) with the letter g, h, i, j, k, l, or m, you are invited to bring something on the second Sunday of the month. If your last name begins with n, o, p, q, r, s or t the third Sunday is yours. And those with last names beginning with u, v, w, x, y, or z then you are invited to bring something on the 4th Sunday of the month. The hospitality team would like to thank all of those who have been so consistent and generous in helping. We invite others to participate, and get involved. Our time together after the service is magical. Be part of the magic! Notice This is the last issue of the Beacon from Unity Chapel of Light. Beginning in October, Rev. Julie s and Charlie s Angels articles, and church activities will be posted in our weekly, Current Events email. If you would like to receive our weekly current events email please contact Rev. Julie at 805-863-7976 Our fellowship time on July 29th in full view of our beautiful Memorial Garden was enjoyed by many. Please remember to come and visit our garden for a time of quiet reflection, in beautiful surroundings. The next big event to be sponsored by Charlie s Angels will be Octoberfest on October 14th. It is never too early to mark your calendars. Charlie s Angels next meeting will be held Wed. Sept. 19th at 12:00 in the fellowship hall. And remember: never has a group had so much fun doing so much good. Blessings, Charlie s Angels Love, Judy

September 03: September 06: September 22: Fall Activities at Unity Chapel of Light Reiki Share begins on the first Monday of each month. New Meditation Group led by Gwen Jennings meets every Thursday at 11:00-Noon Playshop facilitated by Rev Suzan on Visioning and Vision Boarding Unity Chapel of Light s first High Tea Fundraiser was a tremendous success. We had seven full tables with beautiful china settings and wonderful food. Our handsome waiters in white shirts, black pants and red bowties were each assigned to a specific table where they joyfully served the ladies their salad, tea, cookies, sandwiches, and scones which were enjoyed with devonshire cream and lemon curd. Besides having a great time, we raised $1,121.00 toward our sanctuary monitors. Never has such a large group of women had so much fun raising money for a good cause. I want to thank all the ladies who took time High Tea Fundraiser out of their schedule to contribute to this event with their presence and their food & monetary donations. I also want to especially thank Glenda Allen and her assistant Pat Pallus who directed this activity, and all the volunteers who made this event so successful. A luncheon will be served at my home on Saturday, September 8th at 12 Noon. The purpose of this luncheon is to thank all the volunteers who made the Unity Chapel of Light s first High Tea possible. Blessings, Rev. Julie
