Whether your aim is to deepen your knowledge of the philosophy, root more firmly into your own practice, or begin a path of teaching, the ancient wisdom, knowledge and self-awareness gained are irreplaceable. It is the beginning of a lifelong journey. It is a transformation of your inner and outer worlds. It awakens you to your life, and your ability to create it, in a profound way. Our program is experiential and interactive. We will give you the skills you need to safely, confidently and compassionately guide yourself, and a variety of students should you choose to teach, through their own yoga practice. WHO IS THIS GENTLE YOGA TRAINING DESIGNED FOR: So often, the limitations we place on ourselves are of our own creation, and we are here to help you move beyond ideas you may have of who can pursue teacher training. This training is designed for - Those who may have no interest in teaching, but are very interested in deepening their understanding of yoga teachings and philosophy. - Those who due to age or ability or think they can t do Yoga Teacher Training. You can!. - Those who think they aren t strong enough or flexible enough. You are. - Those who say I m too old. You re not. We expect and encourage a diverse group, and you might find yourself in here: - Those seeking a gentle, more slowly moving asana practice and style of teaching while still engaging completely in the theory, methodology and philosophy. - Students who identify as being older or senior, or those of any age with injuries, challenges or disabilities that make a gentle practice more appropriate. - Those for whom Gentle & Level I classes are your favorites. - Those with a desire to learn and share more of the wisdom and philosophy of yoga teachings. - Those interested in meditation. COURSE DESCRIPTION COURSE DESCRIPTION: Our program schedule includes more than 220 hours of training, which meets and exceeds the Yoga Alliance standards for their 200-hour certification and puts you on your path toward a 500-hour certification. Our program is an inter-disciplinary approach to Yoga with a broad focus on various asana techniques and an emphasis on a gentle, meditative style of practice and guiding, a deep emphasis on modifications and Iyengary-style use of props, pranayama and yoga philosophy. We appreciate Yoga in all its forms and intend to give you an understanding of the primary traditions and theories while encouraging you to find your own comfort and voice. This is a sampling of what you will learn: Anatomy + Physiology Sanskrit Translations & Mythology Deep emphasis on modifications and Iyengarstyle Propping Restorative Yoga Partner Yoga Yoga for Seniors Chair Yoga Yoga for Kids Pre- and Post-Natal Yoga Mudra, Mantra + Chanting/Kirtan Yoga Philosophy + Lifestyle + Nutrition Meditation Pranayama Development of Teaching Style Chakras, Koshas, Kleshas, Elements Yoga as a Business, Ethics PRE-REQUISITES - An ongoing yoga practice 2-3 times a week for a minimum of one year. - A lifelong interest in learning about the mind, body and spirit connections. The dates will be refined as the students gather and we can align the schedule best for everyone. Class Times: Friday 5:30-8:30p (*or possibly 5:30a-8p) Saturday 10a 6p Sunday 10a - 6p (*or possibly 8a-4p) TUITION All payments are to be made to Outer Banks Yoga. Class Fee $2600* Early Bird Special - $2400 Pay in full one month prior to the start of the program $500 deposit required, credited toward your full tuition *Payment Plans Available, we will work with you to determine what is best in your situation. A 5% processing fee will be added to your total. ($2600 + 5% processing fee = $2730) PAYMENT POLICIES: Prior to 4 weeks before the start of the training your tuition is fully refundable, less a $150 administrative fee. Prior to two weeks before the start date your tuition is 50% refundable, less a $150 administrative fee. Any time after that, your tuition is non-refundable but can be applied to future teacher trainings. Your graduation/certification is contingent upon completion of all course requirements, classroom work and payment of all fees.

She has since studied Ashtanga with Tim MIller, David Williams and David Garrigue, Anusara with John Friend as well as Vinyasa with Sean Corn, Stephanie Keach, and Power Yoga with Beryl Bender Birch. She is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the ERYT-500 level. She is also certified in Pre-natal, Kids Yoga, and Pilates OWNER/PROGRAM COORDINATOR Michelle Madden Smith, E-RYT-200 Owner/Director Outer Banks Yoga Michelle has been practicing yoga for over a decade and teaching since 2005. She received her certification from the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica. She is the behindthe-scenes administrator of the program, keeping track of details and assisting Anne in the on-going development and evolution of our curriculum. Her wish is to hold the sacred space in which Anne can focus her tremendous creative gifts of leading you on this beautiful journey.

OUR STUDIO We have lovingly served the Outer Banks community and visitors for close to two decades. We are open all year, and we are delighted to offer a nurturing and conscious environment filled with art and inspiration. The space is calm, nurturing, inviting, and tucked into the corner of a quiet building across the street from the ocean. We are continually seeking to nourish our loyal community of both locals and returning visitors with expanded offerings, weekend workshops and new classes. We ve been offering Teacher Training since 2013. Having Anne as my yoga teacher has been healing and inspirational. There is so much wisdom and compassion that radiates from her. LOVE FROM FORMER STUDENTS My experience at the Amalam School of Yoga at Outer Banks Yoga was truly a unique one, a comprehensive interdisciplinary teacher training in Kitty Hawk North Carolina. Studio manager and teacher training director Anne Fpllenbach Howard, quickly became the instructor I naturally gravitated towards as a student, as I was eager and diligent too deepen my practice and Anne immediately became so obvious, as a passionate and endless source of yoga knowledge and direction. My practice became a lifestyle, sometimes taking multiple classes a day and the benefits became hard to ignore. Mmy thirst for more knowledge of myself and yoga seemed endless and it was Anne who was always there with an answer about the asanas, insight to the lineage, and sincere encouragement, even sometimes a maternal nudge of discipline. After several invitations to partake in the teacher training, I apprehensively agreed and with all due sincerity it quite possibly could have been one of the greatest decisions of my adult life. I now teach at four yoga studios and co-own one of them I teach a multitude of classes weekly and have manifested a loyal following of people who seek of themselves and great health, relationships and friendships that have now so obviously become priceless. Yoga, as a student and now an instructor, has given to me happiness that is immeasurable. It s truly an honor to be a graduate of the Amalam School, and the confidence and pride in my teaching is direct result of being under the tutelage of Anne Howard, I m a teacher to hundreds now but I ll always be her student, some teachers are too special to equal. So, in review, after speaking, visiting, attending classes at just about everywhere, it s not presumptuous to say I feel like I m a graduate of Harvard for yoga. I know that with the knowledge I ve acquired with Anne, at the Amalam School, I could teach anywhere with confidence providing a safe and beneficial environment for all my students. So if it is paramount that you re calling is to teach yoga or just to deepen your practice, please, please, please treat yourself to perhaps the greatest 220 hour gift one could give. I sat with Anne Howard for 200-plus hours and the woman never once was redundant in her instruction, solely because of the honesty in her teaching,. Anne truly lives yoga, and thanks to her I too live yoga. - Scott M. Lawlor I was introduced to Vinyasa style yoga a few years while spending time on the Outer Banks. I had been a practi - tioner of Bikram yoga for many years but it wasn t available and a friend recommended that I try a class with Anne. I was hooked immediately. After a couple of years, I talked with Anne about improving my daily practice. She suggested that I take a Teacher Training. I don t live full time on the beach but Anne was willing to accommodate my schedule so that I could take the training. I told her that I wasn t interested in teaching but she thought it would help me grow my personal practice so I signed up. It was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. My understanding of yoga was at a very surface level. Anne s training provided me with an incredible foundation. Her school guided me through history, anatomy, sanskrit, sequencing, alignment, a deep appreciation for the true meaning of yoga and so much more. After completing the course (which is more inclusive and more hours than other schools since it also requires the student to teach multiple classes with evaluations after you have finished), I found that my information was far beyond what my fellow yogis had learned in similar courses after paying a lot more money.
