Maybe it s because of this cold fall and now winter we are having the days are shorter and I am really needing those moments and events that are so full of light and joy to get me through this winter time of year. One of those moments of joy and light for me was December 3rd when Saron and First joined together as one church. What a day. What a beautiful day. Thank you to all who made that day possible: to the church leadership in both Saron and 1st; the renewal team; the cooks who provided the food (Haldis and Knut THANK YOU for the wonderful main dishes and running that kitchen); our behind the scenes workers getting the building ready, cleaned, and organized; the choir for sharing their wonderful voices; the decorators; our amazing staff, and all that came from the community to celebrate that day! It was a day when we got to claim we ARE the light that shines in the darkness we are saying YES to Jesus calling us to follow and be God s light in the world. The Executive Presbytery and the Synod felt so welcomed and were so happy to be with us that day. They were completely impressed with how we came together as one church. This time of year can feel so bleak a bleak midwinter with rain upon rain falling it can be difficult to keep going. And I know it is a season in many of our lives where bleakness and loss are happening the loss of loved ones, our health declining, the unknowns, the barely getting by, and just heartache. We have to hold close to our hearts the promise of the little baby of the love that came into the world. That over 2,000 years ago some Wise Men from the East showed up in Bethlehem by following a star a star that shined so bright they followed it through the (Continued on page 2) For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Page 2 Pastor Michelle s Letter Continued.. darkness of the night. God s light shines upon us even when we don t feel it. It is in the moments of joy we can get glimpses of it be it a huge event on December 3rd or listening to a 3 year old explain with gusto and happiness about their truck. Those moments that make us smile we have to hang on to them. We have to cherish them in our hearts and hold them close to get us through these bleak times. And the thing is in our church right now it really isn t bleak but only the beginning. You feeling down? You feeling bleak? Give the church a call we have ways for you to connect and get a little joy in your life. That s what this church is about being a light in our community and we are so thankful you are part of that! Peace, Pastor Michelle From Left to Right: Pastor Melanie Wallschlaeger, Reverend Michelle de Beauchamp, Pastor Jeani Shofner, Bishop Rick Jaech, Executive Presbyter Rev. Christine Long

Page 8 Annual Meeting for 1st/Saron After Worship on Sunday, January 28th. To follow the constitutions of both churches we have to have an annual meeting. This one is a short one this year. We will celebrate what both churches did in 2017 and the only thing we have to vote on is the approval of the 2018 budget, because the legal things are still be worked on by the synod/presbytery. Once they figure out those items we will have to have a meeting later in 2018 Hygiene Kits and Winter Items We are still collecting items for hygiene kits to be handed out to our homeless brothers and sisters right here in Grays Harbor. See list in church bulletin. Property Committee Update for the New Year In February our group will meet to discuss projects and priorities for 2018 and fundraising for the parsonage siding project. All are welcome! We ll gather in the Fireside Room at 7pm on Tuesday, February 6. If you have any questions or concerns, please email or call Carrie Larson at clarson3@comcast.net or 360.580.8048. Hope to see you there! Also, if you have volunteer hours from 2017, do get them to Al Bruun as soon as possible. Thanks! Carrie Larson There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 1 John 4:18
