living your faith This is a four part module course for adults, which is designed to provide essential guidelines for continuing Christian discipleship. Each module is five weeks long. The course is intended for Christians wanting to develop their faith and discipleship, understand the grounds for faith in order to share it and think further about God s call on their life. Living Your Faith is the Diocese of Guildford s course package on discipleship, which is available through the Guildford diocesan website and is kindly offered for use in Portsmouth. In an earlier version (Toolkit for Christian Living), the course ran in local groups for two years (2007-2009) in Guildford Diocese and was also available in Portsmouth Diocese. The material is now being prepared for general release in a published format for adult use by parishes or other groups. Module 1. Journey of Faith: Where are you on the journey? Faith development and life-stages, connecting with others, developing discipleship and sense of life s mission. Module 2. Roots of Faith: Approaches to studying and interpreting the Bible as it helps us to encounter Jesus, exploring the authority of scripture, its range and scope and its relationship with Christian living today. Module 3. Community of Faith: Exploring the nature of the Church as the local and worldwide worshipping community, commissioned by God to serve God s world. Module 4. Living Faith: Understanding how to live as Christian disciples in a fast-changing world, responding to people of other faiths and no faith, expressing and sharing faith at home, at work, in the community and across the whole of life. They include Consultations for Area Deans newly in post. First Responsibility Consultation for clergy six months or more into their first post after their title curacy. Preparing for Retirement for clergy and spouses up to five years away from their retirement. New Posts for clergy six months or more into any new post. Training Incumbents for those new to the role and those wanting a refresher. These consultations run for forty-eight hours and are held at various venues in the region. worship and liturgy The Work of the People a course for clergy, readers and all involved in leading worship Saturday 3rd & 31st March 2012 St George s Church, Portsea The Work of the People is a two day reflective and practical course for all those who lead and put together worship services and gatherings. The course will explore what elements go into the liturgy of a service and how these work together to make uplifting worship to God. The course will consider the many different styles that are part of Anglican tradition and contain resources for worship and an opportunity to design acts of worship and use them. This is a practical course about leading worship and will involve group work, discussions, times of worship as well as some preparations outside of sessions. children s & youth ministry The Key The Key is an induction tool which has been written and developed to equip those who work with children and young people. It is primarily aimed at volunteers in a variety of church settings, however, it can also be used as a basic quality assurance tool for existing volunteers or paid workers. The core aims of The Key are to: Reflect on why they work with children or young people Explore learning styles, programme planning and resources Be aware of the basics in safeguarding and good practice The Key has been designed to be delivered to small and large groups. The style of the three sessions is interactive and full of games, quizzes, reflections, ideas, practical advice and group work. Each session lasts for approximately two hours and can be delivered on three separate occasions or as a full day. The hope is that The Key will act as a pathway to further training and development. Keeping Safe On and Off-line (Workshop for young people aged 11-16 years) This workshop raises awareness about the issues young people face on and off line. Resources used include films and quizzes to help educate young people in the safe use of the internet, and explores how their actions and behaviour can put them at risk. This workshop will be run in the parish in liaison with Youth Leaders and is designed to last approximately 1½ hours.
