THE WORD OF GOD CELEBRATED *Hymn of Approach God of Grace and God of Glory #292 Call to Supper Mark McKim The Great Thanksgiving Minister: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Minister: Lift up your hearts! People: We lift them up to the Lord! Minister: Let us pray. People: It is right to give our thanks and praise. Minister: It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to You, Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. You formed us in Your image and breathed into us the breath of life. When we turned away, and our love failed, Your love remained steadfast. By Moses You led Your people out of slavery in ancient Egypt and gave Your commandments. You sent prophets and priests to show us Your way. And when the time was right You sent Your only Son, Jesus, who became one of us. And so, with Your people on earth and all the company of heaven, we praise Your name and join their unending hymn: All: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of Your glory, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the lord. Hosanna in the highest. Minister: Your Son Jesus proclaimed good news, healed the sick, fed the hungry, and ate with sinners. Through His suffering, death, and resurrection You rescued us from slavery to sin and death. And so, in remembrance of Your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves to You as we proclaim the mystery of faith; All: Christ has died! Christ is risen! Christ will come again! Prayer for the Bread Dean Gilchrist Prayer for the Wine Rev. In Christ is true humanity, Your love personified. 4

Our Shepherd died, our lives to save from death and pain and sin. Christ came to ransom every slave, now we are bound to Him. Oh Christ we call You God and Lord, and loving Saviour, too. In You our lives have been restored, may we now live for You. Congregational Life and Ministry John Nelson Call To Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. But Christ has forgiven me, the worst of sinners Shawna who killed a father of three young children while driving drunk. Joni tells of diabetes, struggling with limb loss, of blindness, of many suffering individuals that have crossed her path, some who struggle from their own sins, and some from the sins of others. Are there any answers to the puzzle of while they are all true, they all fall short. In the end, we might desire like Paul to be with God, but God found only at the cross. By itself, suffering does no good, but when we see it as the thing between God and is a deep theological book on suffering; it is transforming, humbling, troubling, and comforting. It gives answers, but then takes them away. It gives comfort, and then it takes away the comfort. Joni helps us glimpse that suffering is one of the deepest mysteries. Joni sees miracles, health, relationships and then she also sees a lack of miracles and a lot of suffering. Suffering is something deeply terrifying and yet there is something deep in this subject of suffering. Joni has come to understand that our questions and our cries powerfully move the Almighty.
