LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT CANDLE WATCH Bob & Elaine Schneider Advent is a time to watch. During Advent we watch for hope in the midst of despair. During Advent we watch for forgiveness in the midst of rebellion. During Advent we watch for peace in the midst of conflict During Advent we watch for the presence of God in the midst of a fallen world. This morning we light two candles. The first candle reminds us that Advent is a time of waiting. We wait in anticipation for God to fulfill every promise set forth in the Bible. The second candle reminds us that Advent is also a time of watching. We watch with expectant eyes, trusting that God is active, present and constantly at work, leading all of creation toward the plan of redemption. As we light the second candle, we ask for faith to watch for God's presence, and open eyes to see all that God is doing. ADVENT - CHRISTMAS SCHEDULE AT THE HUNGER CHURCH CHARLES WESLEY UMC - 6817 Dean Dr., McLean TheHungerChurch.org "TO LIVE AGAIN" SUNDAY SCHOOL SERIES: Four Sundays, December 2 December 23, 9:00 am To Live Again, based on the movie It's a Wonderful Life, discusses perfect Advent themes such as: how our lives can change other people s destinies without our truly knowing it, how God uses everything we ve been through for his glory, and how what the enemy means for harm, God will turn for good. ESSENTIALS FOR SHARE DRIVE: December 2 December 24 SHARE is the organization that provides emergency assistance to our neighbors in need in McLean, Pimmit Hills, and nearby areas of Northern Virginia. Each year, from the start of the Advent Season through Christmas Eve, we conduct the "Essentials for SHARE Drive" where we focus on collecting non-food items that are critically important to the people SHARE serves. This year the focus of the drive is collecting baby wipes and disposable diapers (especially sizes 5 & 6). Please bring your donations to the church on Sunday 12/9, 12/16, 12/23 or Christmas Eve, or to the church office during the week. All items will be placed under the Chrismon Tree and then taken to SHARE for distribution. We hope to make this year's drive the most successful yet; thank you for participating! COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS CAROLING: December 14, 5:30 pm Here We Go a Caroling & We Need You! Nothing reminds us of the peace, hope, love, and joy of Christmas quite like hearing a group of carolers sing. Help us bring this spirit of the season to our neighbors and enjoy a truly fun outing. The event is open to everyone and no prior singing experience is needed. Singers of all ages are welcome, we just ask that children be accompanied by an adult. The more the merrier is definitely true when it comes to caroling, so please spread the word about this wonderful, fun opportunity. Following are the details. CAROLING CONT. Where: This year, we will be caroling at the McLean Metro Stop located at 1824 Dolley Madison Boulevard. There is a pay parking lot near the station and those who wish to carpool can meet at the church (located at 6817 Dean Drive in McLean) at 5:15 pm. Other Important Notes: Song sheets will be provided. We ll have some chairs on hand for use by anyone who needs a break from standing. Bring a flashlight as we don t know how good the light will be. We will sing for an hour or less; depending on the weather. CHRISTMAS EVE CANDLELIGHT SERVICE Bring your family and friends to celebrate Christmas Eve on Monday, December 24th, at 7:00 pm. Advent Devotional Booklets from the Society of St. Andrew are available TODAY in the Welcome Center, please help yourself! Please invite your friends and neighbors to these events!
