Volume 7, Issue 4 April 2014 Dear Friends, Just yesterday I went downstairs and was observing as children were entering the building with their parents. It was Wednesday a ernoon and me for our clubs program to begin. On their way in, children were stopping by a table where they were reci ng their memory verse for the week to a willing volunteer. Later they spent me in recrea on and in Bible study and prac cing their lines for the upcoming musical and singing together and sharing a meal. What a full a ernoon and evening of ac vi es and they were loving it!!! And what s more, so were the adults who were teaching them and listening to them and leading them and cooking for them. That is just one of the many programs that go on here at Triangle with the clear purpose of nurturing our children into a faith rela onship with Jesus Christ, and overseeing those programs for 20 years now has been Nancy Holton, our Director of Children s Ministries. Through those 20 years, I have been privileged to work with her, and I have seen that for Nancy this is not simply a job it is a calling! She does what she does because she loves children and she loves their parents. There is nothing she desires more fervently than to see children grow into the people that God created them to be, therefore every plan and program that she oversees has a definite purpose behind it. Children are learning God s Word because she knows the importance of hiding God s Word in our hearts. Children are being taught how to pray because they need to know that God loves them and is always ready to listen to the joys and the concerns of their hearts. Children and parents are given opportuni es to grow closer in their rela onship with one another as dads and daughters dance, or as moms and sons par cipate in a wacky Olympics. And not only does her ministry reach the children of this church but it reaches countless others who belong to other churches, or no church at all, but come here for the quality of the children s programming. With a church the size of Triangle and with as many people as have come and gone through the years it would be difficult to es mate how many children and parents have been touched by Nancy s ministry through VBS or Sunday Clubs or Wednesday Clubs or DivorceCare for Kids or through a word of encouragement or a prayer offered. I know that my own children would be counted in that number and they con nue to look to her as a mentor in the faith and as a loving friend. I am sure the same is true for many of you as the lives of your children or as your own life has been molded and shaped and prayed for by Nancy. And of course I wonder how many of you have felt the gentle nudge of the Holy Spirit urging you to enter into service in Children s Ministry by the simple phrase, Would you prayerfully consider I know that you join me in giving God thanks for the blessing we have enjoyed of 20 years of Nancy s ministry in our midst with the hope of many more to come. Together with you in Christ s service, learn His WORD JOIN AN ADULT EDUCATION CLASS TODAY! On Wednesdays at 6:00 PM & Sundays at 10:00 AM there are a variety of classes open to anyone who is interested. You can read the following descrip ons to see what peaks your interest. You are welcome to join at any me and see for yourself what discipleship looks like at Triangle Presbyterian Church. New Reading Plan Soon! Keep an eye out for a new reading plan to get you into your Bibles and be er understanding it. We ve come together already to read the en re Bible in one year then went from reading everything quickly to reading one book, 1 Corinthians, slowly. Next we ll read through a broad selec on of readings with the hope of giving you a great overview and introduc on to the Bible, helping you to see some of the big picture of what God has been doing for his people. Book Club Start reading Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Pulitzer Prize-winning authors Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, a passionate call to arms against our era s most pervasive human rights viola on: the oppression of women and girls in much of our world. Then join TPC BOOK CLUB, 7:00 pm, May 13, for a discussion of the topic led by Carol Baldwin-- just back from China again--who can tes fy how women there fare in this issue. Upcoming Class on Songs of Easter Facilitator: Casey Clark Loca on: Fellowship Hall A The class on the book of Luke will be taking a short hiatus during which we ll shi gears and study songs of Easter. We ll turn our a en on to familiar songs that focus on that last week of Jesus life and try to renew our apprecia on for Christ s sacrifice by studying these lyrics along with the Scripture that inspired them. Fellowship Class: C.S. Lewis Facilitator: Jeannie Phelps, Loca on: Fellowship Hall B HomeBuilders: Facilitators: Leslie McAdams Loca on: Room 100 The Chris an life ought to be full of prayer, but too o en we don t really know how to go about it. During this class join with others to discuss what prayer is and start to understand it be er. Homebuilders is a class that is open to all, interac ve and conversa onal, focused on fostering fellowship and discipleship in such areas as marriage and family rela onships, paren ng, financial stewardship, and other parts of our daily walk with God. SALT : Revela on Facilitator: Donna Frank Loca on: Room 101 The last book of the Bible has perplexed many with its graphic visions and dreams, but this class will seek to learn what John wants us to know about Christ, the Church, and our future- -and how these things ma er for us today. The Fellowship class is studying the life and work of CS Lewis, known for his influen al wri ngs like Mere Chris anity and The Chronicles of Narnia. This class will look at what Lewis s ll has to teach us today about topics like peace and the conversions of our Luke Study Facilitators: Derek Taylor, Becky Sundseth, Warren Saunders Loca on: Fellowship Hall A One of the greatest storytellers the church has ever known, Luke writes with a depth, richness, and nuance that many consider to be unparalleled in Chris an Scripture. At the center of it all, giving the wri ng its life, stands the person and mission of Jesus. The aim of this class is quite simple: to listen with careful a en on to what Luke has to teach us. Toward this end we will slowly and pa ently walk through his Gospel, taking special care to uncover its unique spiritual and theological insights. In doing this, our prayer is that we come to know the mind of Christ and, ul mately, that we come to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. No experience or knowledge is required to par cipate only a willingness to look carefully and prayerfully at the scriptural text. 3

You'll learn how the Spirit is always available to help you understand and apply the Word of God, guiding you into all truth. And you'll understand why Bible study, prayer, fellowship, and witnessing are vital aspects of the life of The Spirit- Filled Chris an. A Modern Girl s Guide to Bible Study by Jen Hatmaker (book) Wri en specifically for today's busy women, this book offers user-friendly advice on how to get the most from personal Bible study me. Taking Responsibility for Your Life by Andy Stanley (Video series available on Right Now) RESPONSIBILITIES. We all have them. But we don't all take them as seriously as we ought to. Wouldn't it be great if we all took responsibility for the things we are responsible for? Wouldn't it be great if you took responsibility for everything you are responsible for? Whether you are the most responsible person you know or the reason for the 'IR' in IRRESPONSIBLE, you'll find some invaluable insights in this study. The Reason for God by Andy Stanley (Video series available on Right Now) In the New York Times bestselling book The Reason for God, Timothy Keller established himself as a modern-day C. S. Lewis who brings together faith and intellect, theology and popular culture, modern-day objec ons and historic Chris an beliefs. Now fans of the book will find resources to help them engage with those same objec ons, drawing on recent scholarship and debates. Do You Want to Go Deeper? Do you desire to study and understand Scripture more deeply? Do you want to grow in your faith and your knowledge of God? Do you sense the need to walk alongside others as you seek to be a disciple of Christ? The Small Group Ministry Team would like to help everyone in our church family to be in a discipleship group. This may look like your typical small group of 8-12. It may be a one-on-one mentoring rela onship or it may be a group of 3 or 4. Jesus has called each of us to a life a discipleship, and we want to help you answer this call. Talk to Rachel Clark or Harry Albert about pursuing deep discipleship in your life. Looking to Start a New Small Group? A few new small groups are star ng up and we hope to provide more opportuni es for discipleship and growth. Would you like to lead one in your neighborhood, at a coffee shop or at the church?
