Matins 3 Transfiguration ANTIPHON P Blessed be God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. PSALM (Spoken responsively.) Psalm 50:1-6 1 The Mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. 5 Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice! 2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth. 3 Our God comes; he does not keep silence; before him is a devouring fire, around him a mighty tempest. 4 He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people: 6 The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge! GLORY BE TO THE FATHER AND TO THE SON AND TO THE HOLY SPIRIT. AS IT WAS IN THE BEGINNING; IS NOW, AND WILL BE FOREVER AMEN. Please be seated FIRST READING Exodus 34:29-35 29 When Moses came down from Mount finished speaking with them, he put a Sinai, with the two tablets of the veil over his face. testimony in his hand as he came down 34 Whenever Moses went in before the from the mountain, Moses did not know LORD to speak with him, he would that the skin of his face shone because remove the veil, until he came out. And he had been talking with God. 30 Aaron when he came out and told the people and all the people of Israel saw Moses, of Israel what he was commanded, 35 the and behold, the skin of his face shone, people of Israel would see the face of and they were afraid to come near him. Matins 4 Transfiguration SECOND READING 2 Corinthians 3:12-18; 4:1-6 12 Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, 13 not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. 14 But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. 15 Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. 16 But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. 4:1 Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart. 2 But we have renounced disgraceful, Please stand underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone s conscience in the sight of God. 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing. 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus sake. 6 For God, who said, Let light shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. P This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. HOLY GOSPEL Mark 9:2-9 P The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the ninth chapter. 2 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3 and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them. 4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. 5 And Peter said to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah. 6 For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified. 7 And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, This is my beloved Son; listen to him. 8 And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only. 9 And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. P O Lord, have mercy on us. C Thanks be to God.

Matins 5 Transfiguration COMMON RESPONSORY P Forever, O Lord, Your Word is firmly set in the heavens. P Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and keep it. Matins 6 Transfiguration LORD'S PRAYER C Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. SALUTATION P The Lord be with you. C And with your spirit. COLLECT OF THE DAY P Together let us pray C O God, in the glorious transfiguration of Your beloved Son You confirmed the mysteries of the faith by the testimony of Moses and Elijah. In the voice that came from the bright cloud You wonderfully foreshowed our adoption by grace. Mercifully make us co-heirs with the King in His glory and bring us to the fullness of our inheritance in heaven; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen ADDITIONAL COLLECTS OF INTERCESSION AND THANKSGIVING Each intercession ends with the words P Lord, in Your mercy, to which the congregation responds, C hear our prayer. COLLECT FOR GRACE P O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, You have safely brought us to the beginning of this day. Defend us in the same with Your mighty power and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger, but that all our doings, being ordered by Your governance, may be righteous in Your sight; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
