Mission Statement: St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a Christ-centered family of believers, celebrating Christ alive in our lives through the inspiration of the Gospel, church teachings and traditions and the Sacraments. We are sensitive to the spiritual and temporal needs of God s people, acknowledging their uniqueness and dignity and are dedicated to reaching out and serving them through prayer, liturgical celebrations and social ministries. Guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Holy Eucharist, we welcome all people with, respect and compassion. We are vigilant in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable. In the tradition of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, we put the good news of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ into action. December 16, 2018 4 Pastor s Desk From Sister Jolante OSB and the Missionary Sisters of St. Benedict: God s everlasting today has come down Into the fleeting today of the world and lifted our momentary today into God s eternal today. God is so great that he can become small. God is so powerful that he can make himself vulnerable and come to us as a defenseless child, so that we can love him. God is so good that he can give up his divine splendor and came down to a stable, so that his goodness might touch us, give itself to us and continue to work through us. This is Christmas: You are my son; this day I have begotten you. God has become one of us, so that we can be with him and become like him. -Pope Benedict XVI Time, Talent & Treasure Fostering Stewardship as a way of life Thanks for Giving First Fruits & Taking a Step!!! (Regular Sunday Offertory) December 2nd s weekly offering: $8,443.00 Last year s weekly offering: $9,302.00 Bulletin Reflection Today s Gospel provides a blue print for good stewardship: Let the man who has two coats give to him who has none. The man who has food should do the same. Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who prepare for the coming of Christ by sharing what they have with those who have less...or none! December 16-Third Sunday of Advent: In today s Gospel John the Baptist says, Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise Christmas is a time of love and gift giving please share your abundance by giving a gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that those who do not have clothes and food can share in the blessings of Christmas. SUNDAY READINGS for next week, December 23rd: Micah 5:1 4a He shall take his place as shepherd by the strength of the Lord... And they shall dwell securely. Hebrews 10:5 10 When he came into the world, he said: Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me. Luke 1:39 45 [Elizabeth cried out,] Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Send us your email if you would like to start receiving Bringing Home the Word, a weekly message based on the Sunday Scripture readings.

Family Activity: The Giving Manger This Advent at St. Francis, embrace a beautiful Christmas tradition that reminds us that Jesus is at the heart of the season: The Giving Manger! Here's how it works: Encourage your child to do one good deed in honor of baby Jesus each day! Write down those small acts of kindness and bring them to "Little People Liturgy" at the 10 am Sunday Mass. (Little ones process to the basement). For each deed your child completes, she/he will be given a piece of straw to place in Jesus' cradle in the manger. As the cradle is filled with hay, it will warm baby Jesus... and your hearts! What a wonderful way to ready our hearts for Jesus this season!
