CONGRATULATION TO NORRIS BERG on the occasion of retirmenet from directing the Thompson Valley Orchester for the past Twenty years Since 1997, Norris Berg has been the Music Director of the Thompson Valley Orchestra. In 1995, newly retired from 23 years of teaching at Grande Prairie Regional College and also from being the String Program Coordinator for the Grande Prairie School District, Norris Berg moved to Kamloops to be closer to his children and grand-children. That year, Norris and his wife Heather started their music studio, Norheath Music, giving lessons in piano and violin. However Norris was missing his orchestra sessions with his students. So he gathered a few musicians to play together for fun. Soon more musicians joined the playing group and the Thompson Valley Community Orchestra was born, giving its first concert in 1997. This weekend the orchestra celebrates Norris leadership over twenty years. Norris has a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from The University of British Columbia. He has played with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Vancouver Opera Orchestra. He has frequently served as the String Adjudicator for Kiwanis Music Festival in Medicine Hat, Dawson Creek, Calgary, Red Deer and Chilliwack. From 1972-1995, Norris was the String Coordinator for the Grande Prairie School District and taught as a private violin/viola instructor in the Grande Prairie Regional College Conservatory. Since 1995 Norris and his wife, Heather, have been the Music Directors for St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral in Kamloops and they maintain a busy teaching schedule with their violin and piano students in their music studio, Norheath Music. On behalf of all of us at St. Paul s, congratulations and happy retirmenet Norris from this aspect of your wonderful music making. 5
