ENJOY! A welcome poem from Joanne O Reilly titled Praxis Everyone is a stranger at first Wondering will we get on, Asking what am I doing here? Nervousness and questions all around Faces soon become familiar As names are placed with them Quietly talking unsure of what to say Will you really care I wonder. Telephone calls bring many things One to one s and social events New people to meet it seems Time is such a good healer. Smiles and welcomes light a room As friends we all become Sharing and supporting in life With understanding, care Equality, empathy and independence Each ones future lies ahead. Managers, workers and tenants Together we build as one Our homes and hearts in Praxis Today, tomorrow and the future too. The Muslim Festival of Eid and Ramadhan Ramadhan is a 30 day festival followed by Eid. Ramadhan consists of fasting each day from Sunrise to Sunset. Ramadhan started on 1 st August 2011. A Muslim is obligated to fast only if they are physically healthy. The fast this year has been about 17hours without food and drink. This is particularly difficult in the first week when the body is adjusting. There are a number of reasons for the importance of this month to Muslims. This is the month The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was revealed the Quran by Allah (God). The month is also significant to appreciate how lucky we are to afford food. It is also a month of forgiveness and kindness towards others, prayers in congregation to build stronger communities. The month of fasting is followed by Eid-ul fitr which marks the end of Ramadhan. Eid is a day of celebration which is started with morning prayers in congregation. Eid is a day of fun. Written by Saqab Ahmed Come and join us for some up and coming supper clubs where we will be cooking foods such as: Indian, British, Oriental, Irish, Mexican, Thai food, Sushi, Italian, Tapas and much more... Everyone is more than welcome and will be asked in advance. The next cultural festival is the Jewish festival of Yom Kippur on the 8th October. (Day of Atonement) A 25 hour fast marking the last day of Rosh Hashana and the holiest day of the year. 13th- 21st Oct - Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles) A commemoration of the 40 years the Jews spent in the wilderness on the way to freedom in the Promised Land. Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed.
