A JESSE TREE COLORING BOOK by Heather Knowles of Sea & Savor 25 hand drawn illustrations together with a Scripture reading for each day., followed by a two page reading plan with additional multimedia resources to provide your family with a variety rich, customizable Jesse Tree plan for the Advent season. @seaandsavor Sea & Savor, 2018 Adore Him A JESSE TREE COLORING BOOK

WHAT IS THE JESSE TREE? The Jesse Tree is an Advent tradition that traces the lineage of Jesus throughout the Old Testament & culminates with the celebration of Jesus birth on Christmas Day. The tradition of the Jesse Tree gets its name from Isaiah 11:1: There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. Through reading stories of God s faithfulness across four thousand years of history, we are reminded about God s great plan to redeem His children, which has been revealed to us throughout the history and prophecy in the Old Testament. For the past few years, our family has enjoyed and spiritually benefitted from creating a Jesse Tree during the month of December. My husband and I hoped this tradition would help our children focus on Jesus, our Savior, during the Advent season, and not just all the toy catalogs arriving in the mail. To our great delight, not only did it focus their hearts, but it also did ours! The Jesse Tree became not just something we did FOR our children, but a meaningful tradition we observed WITH our children. Our children enjoy creating the ornaments and they recall these Bible stories throughout the year based on the images that represent them on our Jesse Tree, even after it is packed away at the end of December. There are many wonderful Jesse Tree resources out there, but as I found myself spending an incredible amount of time piecing things together to create a variety rich learning experience for our young children, I thought there might be other families looking for the same. This year, I created The Jesse Tree Coloring Book to share with other families so that many others can easily observe this meaningful tradition. I hope this allows you more time engaged with your children during the Advent season, watching and waiting together for the coming of our newborn King. Love to you and your family, Heather Knowles of Sea & Savor @seaandsavor CREATING YOUR TREE AND ORNAMENTS One of my primary goals for this guide was to create a Jesse Tree plan that was scalable. The family who has a craft room full of supplies, and the family who wants to grab the scissors and scotch tape out of the junk drawer can equally engage in the Jesse Tree tradition. The illustrations in this coloring book are designed to be cut out and transformed into ornaments and hung on a tree each day. There are an endless number of ways you can do this. You could simply draw a tree shape on a chalkboard wall and tape the ornaments to it each day. You could also use a hole punch and ribbon to hang the ornaments on your main Christmas tree, or have a second small tree specifically for the Jesse Tree ornaments. You could make a Scandinavian style dowel tree or a washi tape tree on the dining room wall. Print them on standard paper, cardstock, or watercolor paper; hang the paper ornaments, or use modpodge to laminate them onto wooden discs. The possibilities are endless, I just encourage you to not let the method distract or delay you from engaging in this meaningful tradition with your family. Share your family s Jesse Tree in progress on instagram with the hashtag #seaandsavorjessetree to help other families learn about how they too can incorporate the Jesse Tree into their family s Advent and Christmas celebrations.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES Some days, our family enjoys adding in an animated or musical version of the Bible story of the day, so I am sharing some of those additional resources here. I encourage you to not overwhelm yourself with attempting to do all of these, every single day. I am providing them for the days that time and moods allow. In a season with young children, each day is different, but Praise God! His mercies are new every morning! (Note: Every Bible story is not included in each resource, but I am including details in the list on the following pages so you can easily find some of our favorites.) RESOURCES The Jesus Storybook Bible (JSB): The author Sally Lloyd Jones did a spectacular job writing these Bible stories in a manner that is engaging to young children, and faithful to the Word of God. Not to mention, the illustrations are beautiful! Jesus: Celebrating the Greatest Gift DAY 25 Jesus: Celebrating the Greatest Gift Luke 2: 6-21 The Bible App for Kids: (by Life.Church) Our children love this interactive app that tells Bible stories with colorful, touch-activated illustrations. They also enjoy the activities at the end of the stories that help them remember what they ve learned. MUSIC Music is a wonderful way for children to learn and celebrate the Bible stories that you are reading together each day. I have included song suggestions in the reading plan, and the albums below are songs of Advent that both children and adults will enjoy. Rain for Roots: Waiting Songs Slugs & Bugs: Unto Us Doorpost Songs: Sing the Bible: A Family Christmas Seeds Family Worship: Seeds of Christmas
