Page: 3 From the East: Brethren, The summer heat has been unrelenting, especially this last week of August, but unlike last year, Enterprise s August schedule did not place any major demands on our time and energy. The good news..autumn is just 22 days away, let s hope September will cool things off! I really don t have much to write about this month, so this will be short and to the point. Back in late June we received a candidate petition from a young Airman at Beale AFB. I met with him and find him to be a fine young man and eager to join. I hope we can start his Masonic journey as soon as his petition clears the background check and we can synch with his work schedule. The carpet cleaning was completed and the furniture returned to the appropriate stations. The carpets look great and the dust levels have subsided significantly. You can thank Brother Spillers and my wife Sal for getting the job done. Bother Jerry Paine has kept the yard watered in most places and the green grass really helps frame the new paint on the building. Everything is looking good for our planned Open House in October. The final details are being hashed out, but it will likely be just after Grand sessions. The Enterprise Officers line has a few holes projected for 2018, particularly at the junior end of the line. We need folks to step up and fill positions as Stewarts and Deacons. If you are interested in taking an officer s position, please contact Brother Charles Aucoin as soon as possible. Elections are in November and the incoming Master will want to solidify his line by the end of October. Grand Master John Heisner has declared September as US Constitution month and we are lucky to have a celebration event in our local area. All Masons are encouraged to attend the annual Constitution Day Parade in Grass Valley on Saturday, September 9 th at 2:00 PM. This month should be our last month in short sleeves. So get your Tuxedo to the cleaners and have it ready for October 3 rd. I will watch the October weather closely and call the dress code appropriately. One last item to anticipate will be an appeal to provide relief to our Masonic Brethren in Texas. I will be in the Oriental chair this month and will provide additional Texas Flood relief information as it comes in. As the daylight fades earlier and we get back into a more normal routine Sal and I look forward to seeing you at the Stated Meeting dinner on September 5 th. Brother Aucoin assures me there will be food on the table at the stated meeting and threatened to do the cooking himself! Please grab a family member or friend and invite them along. Fraternally, Tony Stone Master

Page: 4 Enterprise Lodge No.70 Restoration Project Appeal for Support Greetings Brethren and all Masonic family near and far, we hope all is well with you! We ve written this letter to update you on the progress made as the first phase of the Enterprise Lodge Restoration Project concludes and to ask your assistance in helping fund this and future phases of this overdue improvement program. The Enterprise Masonic Temple Association voted for the restoration after receiving warnings from several California Lodges that recently closed, in effect fix the optics or die. Their members learned painful lessons about poor stewardship of their Lodges and all lamented: "If only they had tried investing in their Lodge and made it look like something worth coming to.made it look like something worth joining." The Temple Association heeding the warning, conceived and executed this project for the benefit of our current and future Brethren, Masonry in general and our local community. We are pleased that Phase I was successful and the results immediate. Phase I was not cheap, but came in slightly under the $20,000 budget. Here s the list of what we ve managed to complete in a few weeks. The exterior of the building was pressure washed, weather sealed, primed and painted with a new technology protective coating for concrete. The coating completely covered the horrible gang "tagging" on the north, south and east sides of the building and makes it easier to clean up similar vandalism in the future. Several broken windows were replaced, all window screens were refurbished, surface cracks were fixed, stucco repaired, metal work cleaned and repainted, phone lines were moved to the north side of the building and a number of other sundry projects completed. The result is an amazingly bright and clean look that saved the building from future decay and blends well into the historic old downtown. After 110 years of existence and too many years of neglect, our Lodge is once again a Grand Edifice to be proud of and worthy of being listed as a registered California Historical Point of Interest. Please take the time to drive by and see the transformation! Your current and future Masonic family need your action, too! A Phase II interior restoration is planned for 2018 and we strongly encourage you to take up the challenge and participate in this great and important undertaking to make this Lodge stand out in our community, to keep it viable so men in future will see it, be curious of what they see and to seek us out to join. Please take an active part in maintaining our shared Masonic heritage. We are asking for your donation. any amount will be put to good use in the Project. Any donor of $500 or more will have the donor s name or a family member s name added to a bronze plaque commemorating the restoration. The plaque will be prominently displayed on the south west corner of the building. Make your donation check payable to the Enterprise Masonic Temple Association. Fraternally and sincerely, Enterprise Masonic Temple Association

Page: 5 From the West: Brethren, As we resume business as usual a brief recap of our summer months includes a facelift to the building and an enjoyable day, out of the valley heat, in LaPorte. The building exterior looks beautiful after being painted and minor repairs were made. The final metal work is about to be installed. The lodge carpet has also been professionally cleaned. We are glad to hear positive feedback about the work. Our annual BBQ held in LaPorte was a day of fellowship and fun. Our host, Brother Jon Gray is truly a great historian, sharing so much Masonic history about LaPorte and the surrounding area. It was also a time to see Brother Jess Dillwith who was in town briefly after having moved to Idaho We hope to see you at our stated meeting, on Sept 5th at 7:30pm. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm. It would be great to see many old and new faces at dinner and our meeting. As the officers work on ritual for the upcoming year and elections are right around the corner, we still may see a first degree before the end of year. Please keep in mind this organization is a brotherhood. How better to show this than to attend a degree and/or stated meeting in support of your brothers? We, as Masons, should put forth the effort to attend our lodge, our fellow brothers lodges, and to visit our youth orders if at all possible. It s always great to meet new people and to see how our youth are doing. Upcoming events of other organizations that will be enjoyable to attend are: Sept 9th Prince Hall is doing a 3rd degree at 9:00am in Wheatland. This is an all day event and food is served. If you can attend, Brother TK Love says he would enjoy your company. Sept 10th will be another full day. Starting around 11am, Prince Hall will host its annual BBQ. This year it is going to be at the Donald E. Brown Memorial Park in Plumas Lake, as the park is dedicate to one of their Past Masters. The evening of September 10th at 5pm the Marysville Rainbow Girls will have an initiation of a new member at Corinthian Lodge. Come and show your support for the young ladies. We are preparing for an open house; more news to follow as plans are ironed out by the Hall Board. Fraternally, Charles Aucoin Senior Warden

Page: 6 From the South: All s quiet in the South. Reminder, dinners will resume on September 5th before the meeting. Should any brother have a special family meal they would like to prepare for the lodge, contact myself or the Senior Warden, Charles Aucoin. I am pleased to announce that donations are coming in for the lodge restoration fund. Thank you for your support and please keep them coming. An open house is still on for late September, this is our opportunity, as Masons, to meet members of our community on our turf, to show off our lodge and to correct (maybe) some bad information concerning our Fraternity. We need volunteers for tour guides, seasoned Masons for their wisdom and knowledge, young brothers for smiles and charm. Brethren, elections for the 2018 lodge officers is but a couple months away. Now is the time to consider who you want in the line to lead Enterprise through next year. And perhaps consider stepping up yourself. Hope to see new faces at the upcoming stated meeting on September 5th. APRON- The badge of a mason. Originally among priesthoods as a badge of office and a means of ornamentation. The Masonic apron should be white lambskin, fourteen inches wide and twelve inches deep. It should be presented to the candidate at his initiation and not at some subsequent time. No substitute should be used. From the French word napron meaning an apron of cloth. From earlier times in Persia, Egypt, India, the Jewish Essenes, the white apron was a badge of honor and candidates were invested with it, or a sash, or a robe. Its reference is to purity of heart, to innocence of conduct. Fraternally, Jerry W. Spillers Junior Warden Try the New Candidate Learning Center: Now Updated and Free! The Candidate Learning Center the interactive web-based training tool is now FREE for candidates and coaches! And, it has just been updated to make it easier and more convenient to use.

September 5th, Tuesday, 6:30pm: Enterprise Stated Dinner/Meeting Enterprise Lodge, Yuba City September 11th, Monday: Masons Night at the Ballpark San Francisco: AT&T Park https://www.masons4mitts.org A Venturing Crew is a fun-filled, co-ed organization run, organized and executed for teens, designed to help develop leadership and teamwork through outdoor adventures and unique outings and activities. Although co-ed, it's a separate and senior division of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). What makes this Crew-200 of Yuba City so special is that most of the members are teens with special needs and/or mental disabilities. My wife and few other caring parents founded this organization in 2009 to enhance the growth of these kids by providing positive experiences during their maturing lives by utilizing the programs and activities encouraged by the BSA. It was the very first Venturing Crew of such in California for special-needs kids! Their visit is one of many functions of the lodge reaching out to the community to show support and brotherly love. The group is scheduled to arrive at 6:15pm for a tour of the lodge and dinner. Please show your support by welcoming them with open arms as we share our meals and stories together.
