Read along with our Sunday Scriptures: GRACE LUTHERAN ANNUAL MEETING 2018 The Grace Lutheran Annual Meeting was held following Sunday service on January 21, 2018. President Doug LaMont called the meeting to order. Charlene read the minutes from the last Annual meeting. Lance moved to accept and Arrin second. Doug reviewed the Farm Account and General Fund for 2017. Shawn motioned and Margret second for approval. The 2017 Grace Lutheran Church Women Financial Report was given. Motion from Marlene Lamb and second by Shawn. The new 2018 Presidents will be: Melanie Schmidt and Sandra Giles. A Sunday School Report was given by Arrin and she stated that ages of 3-10 year old children were attending. They are trying to have the Sunday School perform every third Sunday with the Bell Choir. The new Budget for 2018 was reviewed by Doug. Margret motioned and Arrin second approval. Pastor Bryan spoke of a new lay person from the area to take on Pastoral duties as Pastor Keith retires in September. Pastor Bryan recommended that the position become two full time Pastors. A discussion followed this. Discussion on the parsonage was introduced. Explanation of moving that was still proceeding and the cleaning process to follow being paid by Pastor Keith. It was the general opinion of Grace Lutheran's Congregation to hold the property to see what the future needs of Parish are for the time being. Grace in Willow Lake 11:00am Worship 9:45am Sunday School The Bethlehem Lutheran Church council met on December 6 th with Pastor Bryan, Pastor Keith, Jennifer, Mark, Julayne, Terry, Julian and Chuck present. There was no secretary s report. Treasurer s report was given. Ending account balances as of 12/5/17 were; Local $29,833.56, Memorial $29,520.62, Building $6,608.42, Scholarship $3,104.73. Julayne made a motion to divide the Coffee Fellowship money between the Clark and Hamlin food pantries and St. Dysmas. Julian seconded. Motion passed. Julayne made a motion to give gifts to each of the pastors for $175.00, Dorothy $150.00 and Kristin $100.00. Terry seconded the motion. Motion passed. Julayne made a motion to gift some of the money we have set aside from Stan Bruha. $5000.00 to Listen God is Calling, $2500.00 to NeSoDak Shoreline Campaign, $500.00 to Pine Ridge Retreat Center, and $500.00 to Wotan. Julian seconded. Motion passed. Julian presented a change to the Cemetery bylaws. In Section XI B.4. it shall read Non-members buying lots, half lots or single graves shall pay therefore $500.00 for one (1) grave or $1000.00 for a two (2) grave lots. This was a change from $250 and $500 respectively. In Section XI B.5. it shall read Family members who are non-members committed on a members lot as well as members be charged a burial fee of $100.00 per committal (including urns). It was changed to committal instead of per grave. In Section XI C.11. it shall read All Memorial Day decorations will be removed by June 15. This was an addition. Julayne made a motion to accept these changes. Terry seconded. Motion passed. This will now be presented and voted upon at the annual meeting. Trustee s report was given by Julian. Tony s Electric fixed the lights in the basement, the light pole outside and the outside light over the steps. The basement door vents are done. Deacon s report was given by Julayne. We are going to try the approach of assigning ushers and janitors. Another longer candle lighter was ordered. Pastor s report was given by both Pastor Keith and Pastor Bryan. There will be no morning worship on Christmas Eve only at 4:00 pm. On December 31 st Bethlehem will host the parish wide service at 9:45 am. Bethlehem Christmas program will be December 17 th with rolls to follow. There was some interest in doing God s Work Our Hands on a smaller scale a few times a year. If you have any ideas please contact one of the pastors. Pastor Keith will be retiring at the end of September 2018. Parish Council report was given by Chuck. Bethlehem s budget for 2018 will be $54,032.00. Jennifer made a motion to approve the Parish budget. Julian seconded. Motion approved. Our Redeemer WELCA will host a Noon Luncheon Thursday, February 15 at the church. All are welcome. A WELCA officers meeting will follow at 1:30 pm. The Trustees presented Bethlehem s budget for council approval with a 2018 total of $69,950.00. Chuck made a motion to approve Bethlehem s budget. Jennifer seconded. Motion approved. Julayne made a motion to give the Mission Outreach budgeted dollars to the youth traveling to the National Convention. $500.00 was to defray their cost and $500.00 to be given as an offering at the convention. Terry seconded. Motion passed. Old Business Bethlehem purchased a new copier/printer. The old one in the office no longer works and is owned by the Parish. Our Redeemer Quilters need more volunteers to help each Wednesday. Come and see what we do. We meet from 1-3 pm. New Business Jennifer made a motion to appoint Julian, Jody, Renae and Tammy to the Nominating Committee. Terry seconded. Motion passed. The trustees appointed Jane and Kyle to the Auditing Committee. The meeting was adjourned and closed with the Lord s Prayer. Thank you! Devotions were led by Pastor Keith Secretary s Report: Notes from the 2017 meeting were read by Julie and approved as printed. Treasurers report: Bethlehem financial report was given by Jennifer. Reviewed that 2017 expenses exceeded the yearly offering. Explained how memorial money was gifted and endowed last year. Deacons Report: Given by Julayne. Pastors Report: Pastor Keith reviewed Pastor Bryan s report. He also read his report and discussed his upcoming retirement. The congregation stood with a round of applause to thank Pastor Keith for his years with the Prairie Star Parish -Merl asked that if you are going to take a job on the church or parish councils please make a point of attending the meetings and being involved. 2018 Budget: 2018 Bethlehem proposed budget of $69,950 was reviewed. A motion was made by Mark to approve, Julian seconded. Budget approved Jody motioned to approve the parish budget of $158,918.23. Motion was seconded by Jennifer. Budget approved Election of officers: The 2018 ballot of candidates was presented. A motion was made by Tammy to approve the 2018 ballot and seconded by Julian. 2018 ballot approved. New Business: Cheryl brought up the possibility of having electricity connected in the church garage. Julian had already checked on getting an estimate to have electricity connected in the garage. Church council will review estimate and proceed. **Meeting closed with the Lord s Prayer Bethlehem Council Meeting Bethlehem will hold its first church council meeting for 2018 on Feb. 14, Ash Wednesday after the church service. We will meet at ORLC. Let s start the year with a full slate of members which include Mark Prouty, Julie Larson, Jennifer Tellinghuisen, Lee Fuller, Matt Vandersnick, Tony Vandersnick, Joel Singrey, Butch Brenden, Brad Larson, Kyle Peterson, Merl Hanson, Chuck Lusk, and Harold Singrey. Members of the Board of Education, the Worship Committee, the Cemetery Committee and WELCA officers are also encouraged to attend so that any concerns, suggestions, or ideas for energizing our church community can be discussed.
