Subject: Evangelism Date: Lecturer: Charlie Haddad Module 2: The Presentation of the Soul-Winner Lesson 8: Approach Memory Verse: Luke 14:23 Introduction 1 Corinthians 9:19, For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. (22) I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. (23) And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you. a. The purpose of becoming all things to all men is to lead them to the knowledge of the truth of the Gospel. b. Each method should result in one thing, sharing the glorious gospel with others. c. Sowing good Gospel seed in hearts is the key. We then wait on the Lord to give the increase. 1. Romans Road 2. John 3:16-18, 36 3. Gospel Tracts 4. The Law EVANGELISM 2018 1

5. Testimony a. Sharing a Testimony is one of the most effective ways to share the Gospel. Nobody can argue with your testimony. We have all been impacted by the testimony of Jesus Christ. His testimony is the Gospel lived; our testimony is the Gospel received. b. A testimony is testifying about what the Lord has done in a person s life. It would be like a person that stands in court to be a witness, declaring the whole truth of the matter. In this case, the matter is God s goodness and mercy. c. Blessing of sharing your testimony Opportunity to give thanks and praise God amongst others Psalm 35:18 I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people. Opportunity to tell others about Jesus Christ - John 4:28-29 The Samaritan Woman - Luke 2:26-28 Anna, the Widow Woman - Mark 5:18-20 The Demon Possessed Man Mark 5:18-20 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him. (19) Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee. (20) And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel. EVANGELISM 2018 2

d. Outline of a Testimony Past What was your life like before you knew the Lord? Conversion What were the events that took place leading to your conversion? What happened that day? Present What is your life like now with the Lord? Assurance of eternal destiny. e. The Apostle Paul stood before governors, kings, and others giving his testimony. A testimony is both encouraging and powerful do not underestimate the power of a living testimony. Matthew 10:18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. f. Apostle Paul s Testimony o Acts 26:1-3 Paul stands before the King. o Acts 26:4-12 Paul gives the background of his up-bringing. o Acts 26:13-18 Paul explains his conversion. o Acts 26:19-23 Paul shares his Heavenly calling. o Acts 26:24-31 The impact of a testimony. o Acts 26:24-27 Many may mock you and might call you names. o Acts 26 28-31 Many will be challenged by your testimony and will consider the truth. g. Lazarus - a living Testimony John 12:9-10 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. vs.10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; Why did they desire to kill both the Saviour and Lazarus? John 12:11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus. EVANGELISM 2018 3

B. The Equipment One of the most terrible feelings for a soul-winner is the feeling of being un-equipped when God has opened an opportunity for them. For example: reaching for that tract in your pocket and finding nothing. Ephesians 6:17 And take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 1. Bible a. Pocket Bible b. New Testament 2. Tracts a. Various Tracts b. Different languages (Depending on the area) c. Keep tracts handy in all places Home, work, car, d. When leaving the house, be sure you put your equipment with your car keys and wallet. 3. DVD/John & Romans a. When you have a good opportunity b. Uses these for follow up 4. Pen/Pad/Phone To write names for a prayer list, to take details down from a person that is interested. Keep a group SMS list. Send an SMS every now and then to the group. EVANGELISM 2018 4

C. The Place 1. Street Outreach Luke 14:23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. a. At times, a Christian may find it difficult to open the subject about the gospel, especially when it is their first approach to that particular person. b. When witnessing on the street, remember that these are the kind of people you may not see again; your first approach may be your last. By God s help, take full advantage of trying to share the whole Gospel with the time allowed. If they do not stop and talk, be sure to leave with them a gospel tract. c. Questions to help start Conversation If you die today, do you know where you will go? Do you know how to answer this question, Where will you spend Eternity? Have a tract ready in your hands to show them. Have you ever thought about Heaven and Hell? How does a person get to Heaven? Do you know that Jesus died for you? 2. Door to Door Matthew 10:12-14 And when ye come into an house, salute it. (13) And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. (14) And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. a. Entering someone s property is personal; and as a representative of God, and your local Church, your first words may establish what kind of impression you leave with the person. b. You may not get an opportunity to open the gospel with them, but be sure to leave on a good note and give them a gospel tract. If they will not open the door, ask them if you can leave a tract in their mailbox. c. Always be in the spirit of prayer, and remember it is better when you go two-by-two. d. Be genuine in your approach and do not sound like a door-to-door sales person. e. Introduce yourself and your partner. State the reason for your visit. EVANGELISM 2018 5

f. Example: Hi, my name is Charlie, and this is my wife Janet. We are just going around and handing these pamphlets out. Can I please give you one? They may say, What is it? You answer their question, It shows you how to get to heaven when you die. As you give them one, ask them, Have you ever thought about eternal things? or Have you ever considered where you are going to go when you die?. Their response will indicate whether you have a good opportunity to share Christ with them. g. What to do when you see these signs: 3. Co-workers Acts 18:1-3 After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth; (2) And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them. (3) And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers. a. Seeing your work colleagues on a regular basis allows you to establish a relationship with them. It should not take them long to start picking up that you are the real deal (A True Christian) because of your convictions and living testimony. b. Pray that your testimony will leave an impression in their lives, bringing them to the point that they ask you questions regarding some of the things you do or do not do. We would hope to reach the stage where some might say, I want what you have Remember, being different makes a difference. Do not be ashamed of Christ. c. Although your life may be an example, it will never take the place of the Word of God. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17) EVANGELISM 2018 6

d. Pray for opportunities. Look for good opportunities to be able to share your testimony with them. e. Work hard for your employer as unto the Lord. f. Pray for them Let them know that you have been praying for them when a tragedy comes their way. g. Many times some of your colleagues will ask you about your weekend. Do not be afraid to tell them about some Church related things that may give you a chance to share your testimony. h. As you get to know them, offer to buy them a coffee or lunch on your break. (one-on-one is the best way to reach someone) i. Depending on the person, invite them home for dinner. j. Invite them to your Church. k. Lend them a DVD to watch regarding the gospel. l. Give them a gospel tract (Give them a different one every now and then.) 4. Family/Friends Mark 5:18-19 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him. (19) Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee. a. For most of us, it is far easier to witness to a stranger than to someone we know. A helpful way to share the gospel without compromise is to speak in the "first person" or in testimonial form. b. Example: When I was asked the question, If you die tonight, do you know where you are going? I didn t know. I thought I was a Christian the moment I was born into this world; but after my friend shared the gospel with me, I realized that I was not a true Christian at all. I knew that if I died without turning back to God, that I would end up going to Hell. It was when I acknowledged my sins that I began to understand why Jesus died. It was to take the punishment for my sins and the sins of the world." Use yourself as an example and be open with them about your life. If there is an open door, ask something like, If you die tonight, do you now where you are going? EVANGELISM 2018 7

c. Other opportunities to shine the light to your loved ones: You may apply some of the things mentioned with the co-workers Love them and pray for them. Be an example Be different Get them a Bible as a gift. 5. On the go Acts 22:15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard. Colossians 4:3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: a. Watch and pray for an open door b. New visitors at Church (Be friendly, introduce yourself; invite them over for lunch) c. People that have a flat tire, etc. (If you have time to stop) d. Leave a tract in restrooms e. When paying bills, enclose a tract with your payment f. Print a question or verse on a polo shirt, etc. g. Give a tract to every person you meet when purchasing something (Petrol, food, shopping etc.) h. Try looking at people when walking past them, and if you are able, give them a tract. (Eye contact, head nod and a smile from them would be a clear invitation to hand them a tract) Conclusion The Testimony of Frank Jenner https://vimeo.com/ondemand/thefrankjennerquestion/183814061 EVANGELISM 2018 8
