Children Sabbath School Lesson #268 for 12-1-2018 Song for opening the Sabbath School: Our Opening Hymn Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus 1- O soul, are you weary and troubled? No light in the darkness you see? There s a light for a look at the Savior, And life more abundant and free! Refrain 2- Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace. 3- Through death into life everlasting He passed, and we follow Him there; O er us sin no more hath dominion For more than conqu rors we are! Refrain 4- His Word shall not fail you He promised; Believe Him, and all will be well: Then go to a world that is dying, His perfect salvation to tell! Refrain Opening Prayer requesting one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer Lesson #267 Lazarus, Come Forth Part 3 John 11:9 (KJV) Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. This Sabbath boys and girls, we will continue with part 3 of our lesson entitle, Lazarus, Come Forth in our lesson book, Desire of Ages! John 11:10 (KJV) But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him. John 11:11 (KJV) These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. John 11:12 (KJV) Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. John 11:13 (KJV) Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. John 11:14 (KJV) Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. 2 Peter 2:9 (KJV) The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#268 12.1.18 Page 1

Let s continue in our book Desire of Ages, Chapter #58, pages 527-528 If any man walk in the day, He continued, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. He who does the will of God, who walks in the path that God has marked out, cannot stumble and fall. The light of God's guiding Spirit gives him a clear perception of his duty, and leads him aright till the close of his work. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him. He who walks in a path of his own choosing, where God has not called him, will stumble. For him day is turned into night, and wherever he may be, he is not secure. {DA 527.1} Question: What will those who walk in the path that God has marked out can t do and why? And, what will happen to the one who walks in a path of his own choosing, where God has not called him and why? Answer: They cannot stumble and fall. For the light of God's guiding Spirit gives him a clear perception of his duty, and leads him aright till the close of his work. And, He will stumble. For him day is turned into night, and wherever he may be, he is not secure. These things said He: and after that He saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go that I may awake him out of sleep. Our friend Lazarus sleepeth. How touching the words! how full of sympathy! In the thought of the peril their Master was about to incur by going to Jerusalem, the disciples had almost forgotten the bereaved family at Bethany. But not so Christ. The disciples felt rebuked. They had been disappointed because Christ did not respond more promptly to the message. They had been tempted to think that He had not the tender love for Lazarus and his sisters that they had thought He had, or He would have hastened back with the messenger. But the words, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth, awakened right feelings in their minds. They were convinced that Christ had not forgotten His suffering friends. {DA 527.2} Question: Why had the disciples been disappointed? And, what were they tempted to think of Jesus respond? Answer: They had been because Christ did not respond more promptly to the message. And, that He had not the tender love for Lazarus and his sisters that they had thought He had, or He would have hastened back with the messenger. Then said His disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that He had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. Christ represents death as a sleep to His believing children. Their life is hid with Christ in God, and until the last trump shall sound those who die will sleep in Him. {DA 527.3} Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him. Thomas could see nothing but death in store for his Master if he went to Judea; but he girded up his spirit, and said to the other disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with Him. He knew the hatred of the Jews toward Christ. It was their purpose to compass His death, but this purpose had not succeeded, Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#268 12.1.18 Page 2

because some of His allotted time still remained. During this time Jesus had the guardianship of heavenly angels; and even in the regions of Judea, where the rabbis were plotting how they might take Him and put Him to death, no harm could come to Him. {DA 527.4} Question: How does Christ represents death as to His believing children? And, why could no harm come to Him (Jesus)? Answer: He represents death as a sleep. For their life is hid with Christ in God, and until the last trump shall sound those who die will sleep in Him. And, no harm can come to Him because some of His allotted time still remained. During this time Jesus had the guardianship of heavenly angels. Song: Let s learn our first scripture song together dear ones, from the book of Colossians! Song in Acapella Colossians 3:1-4 (KJV) If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. For ye are dead! For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. (2 xs) When Christ, [who is] our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. (2 xs) For ye are dead! For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. (2 xs) The disciples marveled at Christ's words when He said, Lazarus is dead. And I am glad.. that I was not there. Did the Saviour by His own choice avoid the home of His suffering friends? Apparently Mary and Martha and the dying Lazarus were left alone. But they were not alone. Christ beheld the whole scene, and after the death of Lazarus the bereaved sisters were upheld by His grace. Jesus witnessed the sorrow of their rent hearts, as their brother wrestled with his strong foe, death. He felt every pang of anguish, as He said to His disciples, Lazarus is dead. But Christ had not only the loved ones at Bethany to think of; He had the training of His disciples to consider. They were to be His representatives to the world, that the Father's blessing might embrace all. For their sake He permitted Lazarus to die. Had He restored him from illness to health, the miracle that is the most positive evidence of His divine character, would not have been performed. {DA 528.1} Question: Did the Saviour by His own choice avoid the home of His suffering friends or where they left alone? And, did Christ have only the loved ones at Bethany to think of and consider? Answer: No! They were not alone. Christ beheld the whole scene, and after the death of Lazarus the bereaved sisters were upheld by His grace. He felt every pang of anguish. And, no! He had the training of His disciples; they were to be His representatives to the world, that the Father's blessing might embrace all. Jeremiah 31:3 (KJV) Margin I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. I have loved thee with an everlasting love: with an everlasting love. Jeremiah 31:3 Had Christ been in the sickroom, Lazarus would not have died; for Satan would have had no power over him. Death could not have aimed his dart at Lazarus in the presence of the Lifegiver. Therefore Christ remained away. He suffered the enemy to exercise his power, that He might drive him back, a conquered foe. He permitted Lazarus to pass under the dominion of death; and the suffering sisters saw their brother laid in the grave. Christ knew that as they looked on the dead face of their brother their faith in their Redeemer would be severely tried. But He knew that because of the struggle through which they were now passing their faith would shine forth with far greater power. He suffered every pang of sorrow that they endured. He loved them no less because He tarried; but He knew that for them, for Lazarus, for Himself, and for His disciples, a victory was to be gained. {DA 528.2} Question: What could have happen if Christ had been in the sickroom with Lazarus and why? And, as they were severely tried; what will the struggle through which they were now passing will bring forth? Answer: Lazarus would not have died; for Satan would have had no power over him. Death could not have aimed his dart at Lazarus in the presence of the Life-giver. And, their faith would shine forth with far greater power and a victory was to be gained. For your sakes, to the intent ye may believe. To all who are reaching out to feel the guiding hand of God, the moment of greatest discouragement is the time when divine help is nearest. They will look back with thankfulness upon the darkest part of their way. The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly, 2 Peter 2:9. From every temptation and every trial He will bring them forth with firmer faith and a richer experience. {DA 528.3} Question: What will all who are reaching out to feel the guiding hand of God the moment of greatest discouragement discovers? And, what will every temptation and trials will this bring them? Answer: That it is the time when divine help is nearest. They will look back with thankfulness upon the darkest part of their way. And, He will bring them forth with firmer faith and a richer experience. Song: Let s learn our last scripture song together dear ones from the book of Job! Gather the little ones together! It s Story Time! Our book selection this Sabbath is entitle, Sons and Daughters of God Chapter 6-Honesty Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. 2 Corinthians 8:21. {SD 185.1} In all business transactions, we are to let the light shine decidedly. There is to be no sharp practice. Everything is to be done with the strictest integrity. Better consent to lose something financially than to gain a few shillings by sharp practice. We shall lose nothing in the end by fair dealing. We are to live the law of God in our world, and perfect a character after the divine similitude. All business, with those in the faith and those not in the faith, is to be transacted on square, righteous principles. Everything is to be seen in the light of God's law, everything done without fraud, without duplicity, without one tinge of guile. {SD 185.2} For a Babylonish robe and a paltry treasure of gold and silver, Achan consented to sell himself to evil, to bring upon his soul the curse of God, to forfeit his title to a rich possession in Canaan, and lose all prospect of the future, immortal inheritance in the earth made new. A fearful price indeed he paid for his ill-gotten gains! {SD 185.3} Deal honestly and righteously in this present evil world. Some will be honest when they see that honesty will not endanger their worldly interest; but all who act from this principle will have their names blotted out of the book of life. {SD 185.4} Strict honesty must be cultivated. We can go through the world but once; we cannot come back to rectify any mistakes; therefore every move made should be with godly fear and careful consideration.... {SD 185.5} When God makes up His jewels, the true, the frank, the honest, will be His chosen ones, His treasures. Angels are preparing crowns for such; and light from the throne of God will be reflected in its splendor from these star-gemmed diadems. {SD 185.6} Next Week: We will be reviewing our lesson, Lazarus, Come Forth Part 3 of our book Desire of Ages Closing Prayer request one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer.
