GENERAL INFORMATION // Associate Pastor Search Church Name: LifePoint Church (non-denominational) Church Website: http://lifepointqcy.org Location: Quincy, IL OVERVIEW LifePoint is a fast-growing, non-denominational church, having nearly doubled in weekly attendance over the past five years. As a new church plant founded in September 2007, LifePoint has grown to approximately 350 in weekly attendance (547 at Easter 2018). 80% of people who have been at the church for more than 6 months are involved in some sort of volunteer service (on campus, off campus, mercy, mission, etc.). LifePoint is a church full of engaged and passionate followers of Jesus! With a mission to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, LifePoint s theological position is to glorify God through the fulfillment of the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20) in the spirit of the Great Commandment (Matt. 22:37-39). God is glorified as new disciples of Jesus Christ are made, and as these disciples grow in love for God and neighbor. The discipleship model at LifePoint is encapsulated in the words ENCOUNTER CONNECT PURSUE GO. LifePoint is passionate about equipping and sending people onto the mission of Jesus (reach the lost; restore the broken; reproduce the vision). Globally, LifePoint has substantial partnerships with missionaries and churches in India and Greece. Locally, LifePoint seeks to love our neighbors through partnerships with a local soup kitchen/food pantry and a neighboring school. LifePoint is an elder-led church with a healthy team of committed elders led by Lead Pastor Brett Sanner. Brett is a dynamic communicator, a team-builder, and a pioneering leader. Along with the elder and staff teams, Brett is leading the church into a new season of organizational alignment and healthy growth. CURRENT STATUS LifePoint is a people who say yes to Jesus. And God continues to lead them beyond themselves and onto His mission. In this season, LifePoint wants to step deeper into this call. The church is stepping out in faith, trusting God for an impact beyond their walls and beyond this generation. In response to this call, LifePoint is currently in the midst of a $3.2 million building campaign. In 2017, the church purchased 7.65 1
acres of land directly adjacent to one of the community s new elementary schools, which is slated to open in August of 2019. Working with a national architect, LifePoint has designed 13k-feet of dedicated space for the Jesus Mission. The facility will expand the church s ministry capacity with a 300-seat auditorium; dedicated space for kids, students, teaching, worship, and offices; and sufficient space for Sunday morning and mid-week activities. What s more, LifePoint envisions an environment that is open and welcoming to the unchurched, and ministry space that allows them to respond to needs in the community. The church broke ground on this site in March of 2018. Construction is currently underway, and the church hopes to be worshipping together in this space before Christmas of 2018. Until that date, LifePoint continues to gather at John Wood Community College theater. This space is accessible to the community, and provides several multi-use classrooms and a 300-person auditorium. Through this season of growth and change, LifePoint has been served well by its staff team. On staff since 2013, Brett Sanner served as the Associate Pastor until 2016, when he accepted the call to become the church s Lead Pastor. Chris Woodard is the Executive Pastor of Operations, overseeing finances, facilities, and HR, as well as teaching on Sundays 8-10x per year. Jayson Bennett serves as LifePoint s Creative Arts Pastor; as such, Jayson oversees the worship ministry, communications team, and graphic/video production. Pastors Joe Mally and Danny McManus round-out the pastoral team, serving as Children s Pastor and Student Pastor, respectively. Additionally, the staff team includes Kourtney Price as part-time small groups director, and Danette Rabe as office administrator. Led by Pastor Brett Sanner, the preaching team engages the congregation with gospel-centered and practical messages. The preaching and creative/musical elements work with unusual unity. Pastors Brett and Jayson work closely together utilizing a Big Idea process that allows clarity of direction, teaching impact, and creative contributions. The Sunday experience is a combination of deep content and wide reach. Engagement is high and there are young adults in worship in addition to young families and more mature adults. MINISTRY APPROACH LifePoint is a non-denominational, gospel-centered church whose approach is both deep and wide. They affirm classic creedal theology (Nicene). Their theological approach leads with theological essentials and remain open on theological distinctions. As a church, they follow a Simple Church methodology. LifeGroups are a key component to the ministry of LifePoint. Around 65% of attendees participate, including student ministries. LifePoint believes discipleship occurs best through relationship. LifeGroups follow a hybrid model of centralized and decentralized curriculum. LEADERSHIP LifePoint is an elder-led church with a healthy team of committed elders led by Lead Pastor Brett Sanner. The elder team is a mix of staff and non-staff elders. Brett leads the elder team, and oversees the daily
4 ministry of the church. To accomplish this, Brett works closely with Chris Woodard, the Executive Pastor of Operations. Chris previously served as LifePoint s youth pastor, having been a part of LifePoint since its beginnings in 2007. Together, Brett and Chris serve as senior leadership over the staff, and are leading the church into a new season of organizational alignment, healthy growth, and a new worship space. As the staff has multiplied in recent year, senior leadership and the elders deeply value staff position growth and development. They desire their staff to be around for the long haul. The staff could be described by filling the gap with trust, being a raving fan publically and honest criticism privately, and having a high feedback communication culture. CHALLENGES Through a season of growth, LifePoint continues to change and adapt. Any staff position at LifePoint requires flexibility and a willingness to change. This mission-driven, fast-growing, ever-changing environment poses challenges for those who are slow to adapt or unwilling to learn and grow. For the right person, however, this position is rich with opportunity to impact the church and community. OPPORTUNITY LifePoint is a great church and growing. It s highly regarded in the community and has leadership that connects and communicates well with the congregation and is an influential voice in the wider church community. It is on the map and partners with the city in ways that lead to improvement. LifePoint s new Associate Pastor needs to be a strong on-stage communicator (with potential to preach or serve as a weekend host), but also adept behind the scenes: organization, structures, and peoplecare. The ideal candidate will be experienced as an associate or lead pastor in a growing church, possess appropriate education to help lead organizationally and theologically (M.Div. preferred), and have the maturity to closely with all staff positions. A leader who is driven, creative, thick-skinned, and committed to caring for his people as much as leading them will do well for this season of LifePoint s life.
