President s Letter I sincerely hope your Easter was a spectacular awakening! Spring has sprung finally. We did catch a break on the weather during our Haliburton exchange. The Exchange wore both the ambassadors and their hosts with a week packed full of activities with several trips into the Atlanta metro area. I think the pontoon boat ride and the Gibbs Gardens outings were also successful. Thanks again to Huw Williams, our ED, all the hosts and those chairs and committee members that pieced the Exchange together!
Fred Mullins had the opportunity to speak to a Forsyth County Ladies group this month with several members expressing an interest in being added to the mailing list. I met with the Pickens County Retired Educators Association and met Floyd Hale s first cousin (?). Peggy is working on recruitment with her co-workers at Gibbs Gardens. Be sure to invite anyone to one of our monthly meetings and let Mary Ellen know if we need to add someone to our Newsletter Distribution list. As we speak, we are packing for Hawaii. Hopefully we will not forget anything important like our passports, airline tickets, cruise tickets, excursion receipts, rental car reservations, hotel vouchers.stopping mail/newspaper, instructions for the dog sitter, etc. You know how it is when you are leaving town for a long time! We plan to see all of the Islands we can and that includes by submarine as well as helicopter. I am sure we will have stories to share upon our return in May. Speaking of May, our next meeting will be Sunday, May 18 th at 4:30pm at the Big Canoe Sconti Clubhouse (4:00pm for the social half hour), followed by a short business meeting, program and dinner. Phil and Jeannette Waldrop, our poster children for outgoing exchanges with other Clubs, will share their insights and travels with other members who may consider such exchanges in the future. Our next Board meeting will be Tuesday, June 17 th 10:00am (place TBA). We will discuss program updates, a possible exchange this Fall and continue to discuss the possibility of a Teacher s Exchange/Lifelong Learning Exchange for Fall 2015. Meanwhile work on your Spanish for Costa Rica in 2015. Special thanks go out to June and Ches Tredway for attending the Friendship Force Leadership meeting in Greensboro later this month. Many thanks also go out to Margie Bowyer and her Call List helpers Joann Layton, Jean Ficht, Irene Barker and Linda Kadechuk! In Friendship, Bob Minutes of April Meeting Following the farewell dinner the last day of the inbound Haliburton Exchange at the Big Canoe Swim Club, Bob Anderson called for a brief meeting. There is no other meeting in April because the meeting date falls on Easter this year. Bob called for the approval of the March minutes. Robert moved they be accepted; Huw Williams seconded the motion which passed. Bob recognized Huw and Marie Williams for their outstanding job as co-directors of the exchange. Huw Williams led the singing of Happy Birthday to Bob Anderson, whose birthday is tomorrow. Huw also thanked Jeannette, Marie, Christian, Linda and Helen Wiltse who served on the exchange committee. He thanked Alan Johnson for handling transportation and Cecil Schneider for the great job on the welcome book for the ambassadors. Also thanked were June Tredway and Jeannette who prepared the welcome package. Ginny Miller was in charge of the farewell dinner and Marie was in charge of the Welcome dinner.
Mary Lou Macklin, President of the Haliburton club, presented a lovely replica of a maple leaf done in a stained glass style to each host family. The visiting club also did a very clever skit using the first letter of the club name with an accompanying poem read for each letter. The poem extolled the beauty and interests found in their area of Canada. Others were also recognized for their service on various committees, but the room was a bit noisy and your secretary did not get them all. You are thanked, nevertheless. Respectfully Submitted, Charlene Terrell, Recording Secretary Next Outgoing Exchange Our next exchange is scheduled for May 2 nd thru May 9 th to Kauai, Hawaii.
