The Vision

Focus on...the Pastor s Message page 2 Dear Church Family, I want to begin by thanking you for your prayers as I continue to heal from cervical spine surgery. This is a little longer process than I expected but I am having to tell myself what I often tell you as you go through similar and more intense healing processes Take care of yourself. I am still on very strict restrictions for the next several weeks, but I am thankful for the healing that is taking place. I hope to be preaching again beginning the first Sunday in September and then coming into the office for at least half-days following that. If you have any need during this time of recovery, please do not hesitate to call me or the church office and our staff will be sure to minister in every way possible. It is also important for me to thank Phillip and Beth for all they have done in my absence. We are certainly blessed to have both of these serving with us at Mt. Carmel and I appreciate more and more all the faithfulness that they show in this ministry. This month we begin a new church year. That means that on September 1, all of those who have agreed to serve in leadership positions will begin their service. It also means that Sunday, September 2 is promotion day in Sunday School. All children and youth who have now aged into a new class will begin attending their new class on this Sunday. If you have any questions about which class you or your child should be in, please call the church office and we ll help you find the right class. If you haven t been in Sunday School in a while this would be a great time to get started. This month we will also begin a new study series entitled Welcome Home: Connecting and Engaging People in Your Church. I would encourage each of you to be a part of this study as it will challenge us on how we reach out to those who visit our church. I am also suggesting a companion book that was written by Dr. Thom Rainer (President of Lifeway) entitled: Becoming a Welcoming Church. I plan to have copies of this book available beginning Sunday, September 2 that you can purchase for $5 each. This would be a great way to enhance this 6- week study of connecting and engaging people in our church. Everything we do at Mt. Carmel is vitally important, but I must say that I believe Sunday School and small group Bible study is the most important thing we do. It is a way for you to connect with a group and grow in your walk through Bible study and challenge. Please make plans to join us each Sunday - I don t believe there could be a better time to start than RIGHT NOW!!! In His Love, Pastor Paul

Music Ministry & More page 3 Dear Church Family, First, let me say thank you for all the love that has been shown to our family through Paul s recent surgery and recuperation. The prayers, calls, texts, cards, meals, grass-cutting, etc. have been much appreciated! We are thankful for how he is healing and how the Lord has been with us through this process. As we begin a new church year in September, I would like to put out a plea for new choir members. We have empty chairs to fill and would love to have more men and women in the choir. There are quite a few of you sitting in the pews each week who could be such an asset to this vital ministry of our church. Please consider joining us on Sundays at 4:45 PM for rehearsal. Even if you want to try rehearsal for a few weeks and see how it goes, I would welcome that! We are beginning work on our Christmas musical Peace Has Come so it s a great time to jump in and be a part. Singing His Praises, Beth Turner Our MOPS group is off to another great start this year. MOPS meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesday from 9:00-11:00 am in the Fellowship Hall. Some of the needs we currently have are childcare workers, breakfast and small door prize items for moms. A sign-up sheet for breakfast is available in the Welcome Center. If you are available to help, please contact Leslie Looper or call the church office (442-5320). We also have a Facebook page and everyone is encouraged to like and share our page: Mt Carmel Baptist MOPS.

Focus on Renovation Project page 5 It s time to make some improvements! In June the Properties Team presented to the church the following renovations that need to be made: Replace 14 Columns, which will be made of Fiberglass. Handrails (Main Entrance of Church) replaced with Iron Handrails, which will also extend around columns for safer and easier use. Windows in Sanctuary will be sanded, painted and re-glazed. Steeple windows & Steeple Painted. All Entrance ways will be painted, as well as all doors on Sanctuary building painted. All columns painted. Porch Ceilings painted. This Outside Church Renovation Project will cost approximately $50,000. To the left you will see the amount received so far. If you would like to contribute to this project, you may do so in one of three ways: (1) enclose your gift in an envelope and drop it in the offering plate; (2) online through Pushpay; (3) contact the secretary in the church office. No gift is too small, so please help us by doing what you can do to help us reach this goal. Note: All monies received above the cost of the renovation project will go toward the purchase of a new outside color digital sign that will give us the ability to display multiple church events and messages.

Focus on Events page 6 Honoring Leslie Turner Saturday, September 29 11:00 am - 12:30 pm Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Fellowship Hall The Bride is registered at Bed, Bath & Beyond, Target and Amazon. The show is the reimagining of the Biblical story of young Joseph, sold into slavery by his brothers after his father favored him with a gorgeous colored cloak. His gift of prophecy saves him from an uncertain fate and helps him to rescue Egypt and his family from famine. Described as a high-voltage extravaganza with a high-energy mix of music and dancing from 50 s rock to calypso to country, this show is hailed for its family-friendly storyline, universal themes, and unforgettable music. We plan to take a group on Thursday, September 20 for the 8:00 PM show. We will leave the church on the bus at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $35 for adults, $33 for Seniors (65+), and $25 for students (age 4-18). Deadline to sign-up and pay for your ticket is Sunday, September 2nd. Sign-up in the Welcome Center or call the church office. Join us as we go to the Greenville Little Theatre to see Griffin Lewis star in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Griffin (the son of David and Leilani Lewis Watt and the grandson of Don and Jean Pilgrim) stars in his first title role at Greenville Little Theatre.

We will also make a quick stop by Justus Orchards in Hendersonville on the way home for those who would like to pick up some fresh apples or maybe top off lunch with a delicious fried apple pie. We should return to the church around 6:00 pm. To sign-up, you can call the church office (864) 442-5320 or contact Pastor Paul. We hope you will plan to join us for a wonderful day.
