Hymns at the Small Entrance Sunday, December 9, 2018 RESURRECTIONAL HYMN, THIRD TONE GREEN BOOK PAGE 83 Let all to things above in heaven rejoice, and let all things below on earth be glad. With all the might and strength of His arm and eternal deed the Lord did perform. Beneath His feet He has trampled down death by death, and first born of the dead has He become. From the womb of Hades has He delivered us, and to all the world has granted His great redeeming mercy. PRIEST ENTRANCE HYMN, SECOND TONE Come let us bow down to Christ as we worship Him the Son of God. Save us O Son of God, who did rise from the dead. We sing You, alleluia! RESURRECTIONAL HYMN, THIRD TONE GREEN BOOK PAGE 83 Let all to things above in heaven rejoice, and let all things below on earth be glad. With all the might and strength of His arm and eternal deed the Lord did perform. Beneath His feet He has trampled down death by death, and first born of the dead has He become. From the womb of Hades has He delivered us, and to all the world has granted His great redeeming mercy. HYMN FOR SAINT ANNA, FOURTH TONE Today the bonds of childlessness are broken. For hearing the prayers of Joachim and Anne, God promised that against all hope they would give birth to the Maiden of God. He, the Uncircumscribed, would be born of her, when He would become man, and by the Angel's example, He commands us to call to her: "Rejoice, Maiden full of the grace, the Lord is with you." HYMN FOR THE CHURCH, PLAGAL FOURTH TONE GREEN BOOK PAGE 115 O blessed are You, O Christ our God, Who by sending down the Holy Spirit upon them made the fishermen wise and through them, illumined the world; and to You the universe was ever drawn, all glory to You O Lord. KONTAKION, FOURTH TONE (Ἡ Παρθένος σήµερον ) On this day the whole wide world * is celebrating * that Saint Anne conceived a child,* which was a miracle of God. * And she gave birth * to the one who bore the divine Logos,* in ways passing speech and thought. 3

Epistle Reading St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 4:22-27 Brethren, Abraham had two sons, one by a slave and one by a free woman. But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, the son of the free woman through promise. Now this is an allegory: these women are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar. Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother. For it is written, "Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear; break forth and shout, you who are not in travail; for the children of the desolate one are many more than the children of her that is married.". Gospel Reading The Gospel According to Luke 13:10-17 At that time, Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your infirmity." And he laid his hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight, and she praised God. But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, "There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day." Then the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger, and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?" As he said this, all his adversaries were put to shame; and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him. 4

Holy Trinity Adult Bible Study The Gospel According the St. John We all long for a life that is pleasing to God. But how do we fill the darkness of our souls with the Light of Christ? How can we quench our thirst with the living waters from a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life? In our study of The Gospel According to St. John, you will experience an opportunity to establish or renew your faith in the One who offers true meaning, true belonging and true life. Among the four living creatures of the Apocalypse, the Gospel according to John has most often been identified with the eagle. St. Augustine likens John to an eagle hovering among Christ s sayings of the more sublime order and in no way descending to earth but on rare occasions. The eagle symbolizes a Gospel so sublime that, as John Chrysostom says, if people actually had the capacity to receive and retain these words, they could no longer exist as mere mortals or remain on the earth. Every Thursday at 10:45 a.m. in the Board Room Join us in supporting all who seek Good within the Ministry of Project Mexico and St Innocent Orphanage. Your prayers, time, talent and financial gifts sustain this amazing ministry, and allow them to continue to provide a home for orphaned boys and homes for those without. Father Nicholas Andruchow, Priest/Associate director for Project Mexico will be visiting our Church on Sunday, December 9, 2018. Please come and make him feel welcomed at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. www.projectmexico.org 8
