SYNOPSIS: Throughout Scripture we are continually amazed at Christ s actions. Here in the story illustrated by Mercy, an adulteress is caught and given a death sentence. She deserved it. The people screamed for it and the law warranted it. It seemed to be a case of well-deserved justice. However, the Author of all Justice, Jesus, kneels before her and writes on the ground. Max Lucado, the famous author and pastor, once said that what Jesus wrote on the ground that day was Forgiven. Where justice demanded payment, Jesus paid the bill in blood and covered over our sins through His mercy. Ron DiCianni

Opportunity Knocks James 1:1-4

Opportunity Knocks James 1:1-4 NIV Version: 1.This letter is from James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am writing to the twelve tribes -Jewish believers scattered abroad. Greetings! Faith and Endurance. 2. Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. Message Version: I James, am a slave of God and the Master Jesus, writing to the twelve tribes scattered to Kingdom Come: Hello! Faith under pressure. 2. Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. 3.You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. 4. So don t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way. (Faith First Feelings Follow=Renewed Thinking/Actions and Choices)

Words: 1. Slave = Servant 2. Endurance = Ability to withstand hardship, adversity or stress, suffering, trials. 3. Opportunity = Favorable circumstances, good chance of advancement or progress. 4. Grow = Develop to maturity, increase in accomplishments, produce. From My Heart: We are to be servants for and to God, and we can only do this through the power of His Holy Spirit residing in us. It is not our fleshly nature to obey, follow or persevere when things happen that hurt, make us angry or take us out of our comfort zone and goes against our will. We need an increased measure of faith and endurance. FAITH comes by hearing the Word of God. You want your faith to grow, listen to Gods Word daily. Read, Study, Listen to Christian speakers, Pastors, Christian Music. Switch off some of the things you re reading, watching and listening to; increase your faith and walk with the Father; Feast on the Godly things. You re endurance, ability to withstand hardship, stress, sufferings and trials, come when you draw close to God. It s all about having a relationship with Him. You have to know Him intimately, that means, spend some time with Him. Include Him in your busy life on a daily basis.

Friendships grow ; to have friends it takes time, you have to give and invest time in that person, you ll also have to earn their trust ; this takes time and communication. We learn to trust our Father when we allow Him to speak to us; what's best for us. Trials and testing's are opportunities, good chances to progress and grow up as we proceed step by step, and win our battles. You have to be dressed for battle; be filled with Gods fruit of the Spirits; carry your Sword! Have Gods Word close to your heart. Prayer: Father I thank you for your life giving words filled with love, grace and mercy. You paid it all for me. I can walk with and through this life with victory as you guide my steps. Help me to listen to your still small voice, to act on what you tell me. I have been learning from you, that obedience = blessings. I want your blessings and favor in my life. Help me to be an imitator and example of your love and grace, to those you put in my path today. Give me a continuous hunger and desire to know your Word and share it with others. It is my prayer, that all who read this book, that you speak to their heart right where they are today. Give them a hunger and passion for your word. We ask this in your name. Amen and amen Thankful to serve bfc

Do you need more stability in your life? James 1: 5-8 NIV Version: 5. If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6. But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. Message Version: 5. If you don t know what you re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You ll get His help, and won t be condescended to when you ask for it. 6. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who worry their prayers are like wind-whipped waves. 7. Don t think you re going to get anything from the Master that way, 8 adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.

Words: 1. Wisdom = Knowledge, ability to discern, inner qualities, insight, good sense, good judgment, wise attitude. 2. Divide = Separate, disunited, apart from one another, mark division. 3. Unstable = Not firm or fixed, not constant, wavering, lack steadiness, inability to control emotions. ACRONYM FOR W.I.S.D.O.M. W. Wisdom I Is S Spiritual D. Directions and instructions that help O. From My Heart: We acquire wisdom, knowledge, discernment, insight, good judgment and wise attitudes from God and His Word. As always and forever, you will hear me say: You Grow! and it all comes from the Word. Oftentimes, I swill say this when I start studying and sharing a new scripture study. DAH, that s what we re doing! Reading, learning, growing, spending time with our Father; building a relationship with Him. Ask God for a teachable heart and new wisdom everyday, don t stop asking. Thankful to serve! Pray without ceasing. How do you do that? Good question! You might say: I have kids running around, I have a very stressful and demanding job; what are you talking about girl? It means, to have an attitude of prayer. I can t pray 24x7. I can think of Him throughout the day as I eat, shower, dress for work, enjoy a cup of coffee, drive to work or the store, making copies at work, walking from one room to another (sometimes asking Him to help remind me of what I was going after) and many other ways. We can pray anytime; ask for help, wisdom, guidance, and much needed answers, in dealing with children or co-workers. I can ask for help anytime, within my heart. Nobody around me knows. I may be at my desk working on the outside and praying about a problem on the inside. (I am blessed and fortunate on my job, to be able to play Christian music at my desk)

Even a simple statement like: Help me God, I don t know what to do! That s a prayer. This is praying without ceasing, or praying at all times. We are also instructed to give thanks at all times. This prompts a new prayer right now as I write this lesson. Help me remember to thank you for the small things and difficult times. Who can do that without His divine assistance? NO ONE. Grace=divine assistance for daily living! This scripture tells us not to waver, lack steadiness, inconsistency; OK, how can I be steady, and consistent? Ask for it. It all takes time, time, time and more time. Where are your priorities? Do you need to make a few changes in your life, to become more consistent in obeying what God wants you to do, not just do as you please? OUCH! Father, I come to you in Jesus Name. I praise you for who you are, what Jesus did for me and my many blessings. I pray now, you fill me and all those in my family, friends, co-workers, those I minister to, with knowledge, wisdom and understanding; you help us walk in your way, a way that is pleasing to you. Help us to bear fruit, study your Word, be strengthened by your power and help us to be steadfast, patient and joyful. I give you praise. Amen Thankful to server bfc

Prayer Examples Matthew 6:9-13- Colossians 1:9-12-Luke 11:1-4-Luke 3:21-22-Luke 5:16 Luke 6:12-13 Prayer from scripture Father help me to: Be humble & honor others Live in harmony Accept your discipline Know your Word never changes God straighten my crooked paths Save me from my enemies Give me endurance in hard times God give me confidence Bless my work and labor of hands Enliven my speech Help me think of others first Help me not be so selfish. Amen

What does it mean to be poor in spirit? James 1:9-13

11 Simple Steps Learning How To Spend time with your Heavenly Father and Receive Revelation from His Word - You will need the following tools: 1.A Willing Heart 2.Make an appointment with yourself 3.Find a quiet, private place with no distractions 4.Soft Praise & Worship Music (optional) 5.Coffee / Tea 6.Bible Version you understand 7.Journal 8.Dictionary 9.Concordance & Commentary 10. Post Cards 11.Pencil / Highlighter Let His Word become active and operative in your life so you will have peace, power, and purpose. Plant Gods Seeds/Words in your Heart, then Sow them into others as the Holy Spirit directs you. (Hebrews 4:12)

Get your Coffee, Tea, Soda, whatever you enjoy sipping on,(optional) and find a quiet place; spend a few moments praying. Ask God to help you understand what His Word says as you read. Open your Bible to a book you want to learn from (for beginners, I recommend Ephesians, James, or John in the New Testament). Begin with just trying to read 2-10 verses. As you read, highlight or underline the verses that seem to be speaking to you the most. (The verses that seem to jump out at you, or jump off the page is the verse or verses you need to study / meditate upon). Now write the verses in your journal. In your journal, underline certain words in the scriptures, some that you want a better clarification of in order to better understand what the scripture is saying. Now, pull out your dictionary and look those words up. Rewrite the scripture with the definitions included; you ve just amplified Gods Word as the Holy Spirit of God within you has spoken to your heart. The whole purpose of this type of study, is so you learn to become more aware of what the Bible is saying to you personally, and you can take Gods Word with you; in your car, in your purse, on the mirror, on the refrigerator, anywhere you can see it and be reminded of it. Try to memorize one or two a week. Write Gods Word on your heart. Renew your mind with the Word of God Remember one thing after you start this study, don't let the devil get you under condemnation if time passes and you haven't studied His Word. Just Start All Over Again.

DISCERNMENT (UNDERSTANDING) IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN DISTANCE. THAT means, GETTING A LOT READ IS NOT AS IMPORTANT AS EVEN READING ONE OR TWO VERSES AND REALLY GRASPING WHAT THEY MEAN. One or two verses can make a difference in Choices and Decisions you make In your life TODAY. Put your Ears On and listen for God to speak to you, He's been talking, you might not have been listening.

What does it mean to be poor in spirit? James 1:9-13 NIV Version: 9. Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them. 10. And those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. They will fade away like a little flower in the field. 11. The hot sun rises and the grass withers; the little flower droops and falls, and its beauty fades away. In the same way, the rich will fade away with all of their achievements. 12. God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. 13. And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, God is tempting me. God is never tempted to do wrong, and He never tempts anyone else. From My Heart: Hurts good. Remember, temptations don t come from God. It s not Gods fault when we find ourselves in a mess! Don t blame God for bad or wrong choices you made.

Who are you listening to? James 1:18-21 NIV Version: 18 He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession. Listening and Doing. 19 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. 20 Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. 21 So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.

Take A.C.T.I.O.N. James 1:22-25 From My Heart: Words: Today is a little different format. I did not choose words with definitions. I am sharing the one theme of today's scripture reading Obedience. What does it profit us if we do what the scriptures tell us? Today I am not adding any Bfc heartfelt notes, the scripture speaks loud and clear. All scriptures does, I realize that, but there are some days during quiet time, I just don t get to add anything, and today is one of those days. Why should we deny our fleshly desires? Obedience = blessings Benefits Peace Spiritual maturity and growth Discernment, good judgment Integrity Respect Joy Wisdom Faith Strength Grace Mercy Understanding

Which one are you? James 2:5-7 NIV Version: Listen to me, dear brothers and sisters. Hasn t God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith? Aren t they the ones who will inherit the Kingdom he promise to those who love him? 6 But you dishonor the poor! Isn t it the rich who oppress you and drag you into court? 7 Aren t they the ones who slander Jesus Christ, whose noble name you bear? What did you ladies get from this one? I had trouble with this when I first studied James in 2011 and forgot what I received and was stuck again this time, then read what I got before and it made sense. Love His Word!!

To be poor is to desire a closeness and dependence trust in God and the guidance of His Holy Spirit, to take care of me. To help me when I m down and lift my spirit when I m depressed, tired, angry, emotional, confused, sad, etc. To be rich, is to have my heart full of God ; to be full of the fruits of the Holy Spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. I am RICH in God s Grace, Mercy, Favor, Health and Forgiveness. Grace=Divine Assistance for Daily Living! bfc

NIV Version: Does sin have degrees? James 2:8-11 8 Yes indeed, it is good when you obey the royal law as found in the Scriptures: Love your neighbor as yourself. 9 But if you favor some people over others, you are committing a sin. You are guilty of breaking the law. 10 For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God s laws. 11 For the same God who said, You must not commit adultery, also said, You must not murder. So if you murder someone but do not commit adultery, you have still broken the law.

From My Heart: Sin IS sin! No white or black. No white lies. No black lies. A lie is a lie! Call it what it is, SIN; rough and to the point right? There is no grey area. As human beings, it s the old sinful nature that tries to justify our wrong choices and actions. One sin is not a 10, while yet another is only a 2. Break one command, you break them all. God does not judge sin in degrees or by size. Here, we return to what we ve been learning for quite some time; crucify the old self and say NO! Say NO to fleshly sinful desires. Say YES! Say YES to Gods Word, obey what He says to you = Blessings and Long Life! Renew your mind, and attitude by the washing and bathing in the Word of God=Bible. Take A.C.T.I.O.N. - Obedience=Blessings

Mercy Triumphs over judgment James 2:12-14 NIV Version: 12 So whatever you say or whatever you do, remember that you will be judged by the law that sets you free. 13 There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you. Faith without Good Deeds is Dead. 14 What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don t show it by your actions? A.C.T.I.O.N. - F.A.I.T.H.

Has your faith transformed you? James 2:18-20 NIV Version: 18 Now someone may argue, Some people have faith; others have good deeds. But I say, How can you show me your faith if you don t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds. 19 You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this; and they tremble in terror. 20 How foolish! Can t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?

T Transformation R Results from A Accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior. You receive a N New heart, S Soul and spirit, this is the 1st step, then F Faith and trust start to transform you. O Old things will begin to pass away, which R Result in a renewed M Mind, let the peace of Christ control your thinking. A Actions + Faith = results and fruit. Trust in, and rely on God to do the changing. T I Imitate (copy) God as you read His Word, then you will be able to O Overcome satan and walk in peace and grace. N New Life! Eternal Life! Victorious Life! T.R.A.N.S.F.O.R.M.A.T.I.O.N. Acronym Father, transform me today! Help me to walk in and walk out my faith by my actions. Speak to me in your still small voice as I go through today; show me what steps and actions to take, in small, minute things and the large, humongous ones. Continue to give me a passion and hunger for your Word, may it ever burn like a flaming fire that never dies! Amen

NIV Version: What is God Showing You? James 2:24-26 24. So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone. 25. Rahab the prostitute is another example. She was shown to be right with God by her actions, when she hid those messengers and sent them safely away by a different road. 26. Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.

From My Heart: What are you doing by faith? What action is involved with that same faith? These are some words that jumped off the page! SEE SHOWN LOOK Look into Gods Word for daily encouragement and Godly Wisdom. God shows us the way, He gives us directions. As we come to know God more by spending time with Him, He renews our thoughts and increases our faith in Him. Faith to believe we can do all things through Him. Faith grows, so our actions will begin to follow thereafter. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing and reading and reading the Bible; listening to Godly teaching and preaching. You SEE what God is showing you clearer every day, as your relationship with the Father grows. A.C.T.I.O.N. - F.A.I.T.H.

R U Qualified? James 3:1-2 NIV Version: 1.Dear brothers and sisters, not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2. Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.

This morning, as I sat down to have my quiet time with the Father, I picked up my clip board with James, then pulled out my dictionary and started looking up the word definitions. I still wasn t really motivated at this point, I just wanted to hear from God and remain committed to keeping my time with Him. My flesh really, really, wanted to go back to bed and sleep! After completion of looking up the words, the Holy Spirit of God within me, began to speak to me! Now the Word was becoming ALIVE once again! Now, I know I can press on, and continue to learn and hear from the Father by completing the 11 Simple Steps God gave me years ago. He planted these studying seeds in my heart in 2007. Go back to the simple basics. God is so cool!

The bit must overcome the wild nature of the horse, and the rudder must fight the winds and currents that would drive the ship off its course. The human tongue also must overcome the contrary forces. This means that both the bit and the rudder must be under the control of a strong hand, (The Holy Spirit of God within us). When Jesus Christ controls the tongue, then we need not fear saying the wrong things, or even saying the right things in a wrong way! Death and life are in the power of the tongue, warned Solomon in Proverbs 18:21. No wonder David prayed, Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth keep the door of my lips. Incline not my heart to any evil thing. Psalms 141:3-4. The bit and rudder have the power to direct, which means they affect the lives of others. A runaway horse or shipwreck can mean injury or death to pedestrians or passengers. The words we speak affect the lives of others.
