12-09-2018 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading Zephaniah 3:14-18a Philippians 4:4-7 Luke 3:10-18 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ: A Message from Father Don Imagine you are there listening to John the Baptist in today s Gospel. You hear him addressing the people who have already expressed sorrow for their sins. They are about to be baptized as a sign of their repentance. But they realize they must change their lives and avoid sin in the future. Then the people wonder whether John might be the promised Messiah of God. John tells them that they must look for someone greater than he. We know he was directing him to Jesus. This week I ask you to spend some time discerning this passage. Reflect on your own path of faith that you journey on. No matter what your path looks like, we are here today with faith in the salvation of our God. Your path may be made up of many diversions from the straight and narrow way, but in spite of the twists, turns, highs and lows, God is still calling us to make the journey with Christ. We can be like John the Baptist when we help others to find Jesus Christ in their lives. As you prepare yourself for the Lord, patiently straighten the paths of your life, while cooperating with the grace of God, through Christ. Pray that your joy of knowing Christ will help lead others to Him. As candles are lit at 7:00 p.m. local time, hundreds of thousands of persons commemorate and honor the memory of all children gone too soon. At 6:30 p.m., we will gather in our outdoor chapel to support the families who have lost a child with a beautiful memorial service, and we will light candles that represent courage, memory, love and hope. This generous parishioner agreed to donate $150,000 to the Building Fund if we could match his amount and raise an additional $150,000. We are so happy to report that we have reached the goal of the challenge! Thank you so much to all those parishioners who answered our call and donated to this fund. We are extremely blessed to have such caring and giving people in our parish. A huge thank you goes to our anonymous donor who created this challenge and who donated so generously. Our St. Rita Marriage Ministry will not meet in December. We will resume meeting on January 19, 2019 at 7pm in the Faith House. Our best wishes for a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year! 5
