Dec - No dates given for Key Club meetings. Mehlville High School Key Club During December, our South County Spotlight shines on Santa Claus. Although Santa is not officially a member of our club, he does embody many of the same qualities and attributes of a great Kiwanian that we do. While we are working all year long Serving the Children of the World, Santa is busy working behind the scenes and makes his public appearance only once a year at Christmas time. But during that time, he, like us, brings joy to many children and adults as he spreads good cheer, toys, food and clothing to all. Please continue saving your tab tops for Ronald MacDonald House. They have a wine and beer tasting event as a fundraiser. They are also collecting toys for kids for Christmas. We received a thank you note from Cassie thanking all of us for bell ringing for the Salvation Army last Saturday. Our buckets had $1220.21 in them. The Gateway Foundation has received a donation from Commerce Bank in our name. We are to use it to help carry out our mission. We ll discuss ideas for how to use the money at our Board/Business meeting this month. Roy reminded us that our Christmas party at Carol and Ed s house is this Saturday at 5:30. Bring unwrapped presents for Nurses for Newborns to the party or to our meeting next week when Kate Steele will be our speaker. On December 18 we ll recognize Terrific Kids at MOSAIC school. Connie introduced our speaker, Rev. Wyatt Trafton, who gave our Christmas message. He gave us each a copy of the children s book, The Tale of Three Trees, and read the book. The story can be used as a comparison or analogy to our lives. Three young trees are growing on a mountain top, and are dreaming about their life when they mature. One wants to be a treasure chest; the second, a strong sailing ship; and the third
Volume 34:10 December 5, 2018 Page 5 desires to be the tallest tree on earth. Years later, woodchoppers come along and chop them down. The first tree becomes a feed box; the second, a small fishing boat; and the third ends up as beams in a woodpile. The trees almost forgot their dreams. But a young mother places her newborn baby in the feedbox, and the first tree knew he was holding the greatest treasure in the world. One day the boat was crowded with people and a storm came up. When one of the men calmed the storm, the tree knew he was carrying the King of heaven and earth. The beams from the third tree were hammered together and carried thru an angry crowd only to have a man s hands nailed to her. But on Easter Sunday the third tree knew that God s love had changed everything. Rev. Trafton told us that God has fashioned each of us and we are wonderfully made. We all have big dreams, but most of the time they don t materialize. But God s plans for us will be accomplished and those plans will be better than our plans. This Christmas we are encouraged to follow God s plans which include helping the poor and needy. Happy $$: All for the Christmas message, plus Ed took heed of the Christmas message to give money to a member who needed it; Carla is glad to make it to the meeting; Steve presented pins to vets at Jefferson Barracks hospital; Linda had a surprise birthday party; and Sue is happy her son was part of a state football championship team for the second time. 50/50: Drawing Ed. Special thanks to Louann for taking the notes of our meetings. _ South County Kiwanis Club Meeting Cancellation Policy When the Mehlville School District cancels classes declaring a snow day on one of our meeting days, our meeting will be cancelled as well.
