Thank you to everyone who pitched in. Rev. Sue Engle presented the program entitled 72 + U There were 113 in attendance and the only complaint was the limited space in the meeting room. The 2016 retreat dates are April 8-9 and the speaker has yet to be chosen. We are hoping to get someone from the National Office. I know that we will have a great retreat in 2016. Be sure to get your registrations forms in early once they are available. Respectfully submitted Barbara Christopher 2

Messages from your UMW conference leaders From your president: Greetings, United Methodist Women, 2015 is proving to be a great year so far. I hope this newsletter finds each of you offering Faith, Hope and Love in Action as your units plan and participate in events locally, in your district, and in the conference. I hope one of the events you participated in was our annual Spiritual Growth Retreat. Sue Engle was great. She brought a lot of humor to the group while encouraging us to live into the 2015 Annual Conference theme, Offering Christ to a Hurting World. Christ called the 72 and he is calling each of us daily. United Methodist Women have been offering Christ to a hurting world for close to 150 years. I hope you have heard about some new ways to live into the 150 year legacy of United Methodist Women. I know many units have begun looking at ways to participate in this celebration. We are entering the 146 th year since those strong women met in Boston. Many changes have taken place since then and many more are on the way. As we prepare for the changes ahead, we want to strengthen our connection with each other. An organization is only as strong as its weakest link. Let s make sure we have no weak links. We share a 146 year legacy of strong women, women who were not afraid to dream big dreams. Can you dream big? How big? How is your unit doing on your mission giving for 2015? We are approaching the end of the second quarter. I hope to see a great report from our treasurer, Marie Lamon, when we meet in July at Mission u. And speaking of Mission u-it is just around the corner. Make sure you look for the registration form in this edition of the Clarion. You will want to register early. Lana Solomon and her committee have worked to make sure we have great study leaders. It is always a great event and you will not want to miss it. Bring a friend or two! The Memphis Annual Conference is just two weeks away. I know many of you will represent your churches as delegates. I look forward to seeing you there. Change is definitely in the air. Please support your district mission teams as we celebrate our current seven districts and work toward becoming four districts. Until we meet again, go share Faith, Hope and Love in Action. From your Vice President: HELLO, Memphis Conference UMW! Are you ready for ALL THINGS JACKSON? Well, if you haven t heard, that is the theme for this year s Annual Day Event on September 26 at Jackson First United Methodist Church. This year we will not only be celebrating our year as movers and shakers in the conference, but also a few of the icons that make the Hub City famous Carl Perkins Blue Suede Shoes, the annual Miss Tennessee Pageant and of course, Casey Jones! From rockabilly tunes to pageant splendor, the incredible Mr. Bill Kelley will provide musical entertainment throughout the day. Once again we will offer the attendees an ultimate shopping experience at our Old Depot Boutique and we are calling on our units to donate lots of goodies individually wrapped homemade breads, cookies, jams, jellies, canned veggies, juices, home décor, jewelry, wreaths, gift baskets, etc. The format will be the same as last year with everything being displayed together and baskets set up for each District for payment. All funds collected will go toward our Pledge to Mission. In addition, you can don a humongous crown and sash and step into the Queen s Photo Booth and get that photo you ve always wanted for your mantle come on, we know you want one! Cost will be $3 and again the funds will go toward Mission Giving. Ladies will feast on lunch in our very own Hub City Café complete with family style servings of old favorites that will make any southerner proud. Spread the word and bring your friends for the ultimate day out at the 2015 Memphis Conference Annual Day! Donna Moore, Conference Vice President (PS a flyer and registration form are included in this newsletter that you can download and reproduce.) 5
