A Le er From Fr. Mike Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The me has finally arrived! Cardinal Cupich has officially granted me a release from the Diocese so that I have the opportunity to explore a monas c voca on at St. Leo Abbey. While I am at peace with my decision and excited about the future, I must also acknowledge the sense of sadness I feel as I leave St. Patrick and Our Lady of Humility. It has been an absolute blessing to be your Priest these past 14 months. Thank you for welcoming me into your homes and hearts, for allowing me to lead you closer to Christ through my priestly ministry. Thank you to Father Merold and Father Stemn, my fearless leaders, for giving me this incredible opportunity to split me between the two parishes. Their support and ingenuity (and pa ence!) were instrumental in my success. In a special way, I thank all of you who gave me going-away cards and gi s. Your generosity and support is both humbling and life-affirming; thank you so very much! Throughout these past months, many of you have complimented me on my homilies and bulle n ar cles, and expressed a desire to con nue receiving that spiritual nourishment. For those that were unaware, I record all of my Sunday homilies, and will con nue to do so in the future. I am not sure how o en I will be wri ng bulle n ar cles, but when I do, I can make those available as well! I have recently opened a new E-mail account: fathermichaelowen@gmail.com. For those who would like to receive copies of my future wri ngs and words, I ask you to send me an E-mail. I will add you to my mailing list, and send out a weekly blast with those files. *************** As I was packing up my belongings this week, I happened upon one of my old notebooks from the Seminary; the one that I used during my internship as a hospital chaplain. Within those pages, I had wri en the names of all the pa ents that I visited during the day, as well as the names of any family members for whom I was requested to pray. I remember how faithful I was with that notebook; each and every day bringing it with me to my me of prayer, offering all those names and inten ons to our Heavenly Father. I realize that I should never have re red that notebook, and that I should have offered for you, my parishioners, to add your names to those pages as well. But be er late than never! The monas c voca on provides me with a much more regimented prayer life, and I promise to pray for the names in that book whenever I enter the chapel. Please E-mail me: fathermichaelowen@gmail.com, to add your names and inten ons to my prayer notebook, and know that I will bring you with me wherever I go. Please remember to keep me in your prayers as well. Peace, Fr. Mike October 07, 2018 Twenty-Seventh Sunday In Ordinary Time 3
