Pastoral Care of the Sick and Elderly Please contact the Parish Center Office to make arrangements, if you are going into the hospital, or have a family member who is homebound and would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick. If a family member cannot come to church and would like to receive Communion at home, please notify us. Remembering Our Parishes Please consider remembering St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Joseph Parish or St. Joseph School when drafting your estate plans. For more information, please call Laura Powers at 781-396-0423 Ext 113. Thank you. My name is Fr. Peter Shen, the new parochial vicar of the collaborative parishes of St. Joseph and St. Francis of Assisi. I deeply thank Fr. Paul Sullivan, our pastor, for accepting me to be his assistant and to work with him. I am honored to be your priest and to walk with you on your faith journey. I am looking forward to meeting you in person as time goes on. And now, I would like to introduce myself to you, so that you can know me better. I was born into a Catholic family in October 1969, in China. I have a married brother and sister. Growing up I enjoyed playing ping-pong. From 1993 to 1999, I studied at Mundelein Seminary in Chicago, where I earned the degrees of MA, STB and STL. I was ordained into the priesthood in 1997. From 1999 to 2003, I studied at Western Jesuit School of Theology in Boston, and there I earned my Doctorate degree in Sacred of Theology. From 2003 up to now, I have worked full time as a priest in the Archdiocese of Boston. Over these past 19 years of priestly ministry, I have worked in the following parishes: St. Catherine of Genova, Somerville; St. Margaret s in Burlington; St. Patrick s in Natick; St. Bridget s in Framingham; St. James the Greater in Chinatown, and now here in Medford. I have always loved my priestly ministry. Throughout my service in different parishes, I have learned a lot about myself and my priesthood. I am very excited and looking forward to working with you and serving you as your priest. There is always a mutual effect between parishioners and their priests. Good and holy priests can lead the faithful to God and help them to build a strong relationship with God. Similarly, good and devoted faithful can help and encourage their priests to be holy. The faithful need good and holy priests in celebrating the sacrament of the Eucharist, and to bring the presence of Jesus into their lives. But meanwhile, priests are nourished by the community and the family. In Christ, we are one family. In God s grace, let us work together for the glory of God s name. Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
