Thanksgiving Day November 22, 2018 Redeemer Lutheran Church and 3K/4K Preschool 1712 Menasha Ave. Manitowoc, Wisconsin (920) 684-3989 www.redeemermanty.com

Welcome! Redeemer is glad that you are joining us this morning to worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If you are a guest or visitor please sign the guest book at the entrance to the church so that we may contact you and see if there is any way that www.redeemermanty.com we may serve you. Prelude Opening Hymn: 895 Now Thank We All Our God Invocation P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism. C Amen. Psalm 107 P Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! C Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! P Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble. C Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! P For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things. C Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Confession and Absolution P Since we are gathered to hear God s Word, call upon Him in prayer and praise, and receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly 2

Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner. C Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen. P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. +Liturgy of the Word+ P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. P Let us Pray Almighty God, Your mercies are new every morning and You graciously provide for all our needs of body and soul. Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may acknowledge Your goodness, give thanks for Your benefits, and serve You in willing obedience all our days; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen. Old Testament Reading: Deuteronomy 8:1-10 The whole commandment that I command you today you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers. And you shall remember the whole way that the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. Your clothing did not wear out on you and your foot did not swell these forty years. Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, the LORD your God disciplines you. So you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God by walking in his ways and by fearing him. For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing out in the valleys and hills, a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, a land in 3

which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper. And you shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. P This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Epistle Reading: I Timothy 2:1-4 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. P This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God, Alleluia and Gospel Luke 17:11-19 P The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the 17 th chapter. C Glory to You, O Lord. On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. When he saw them he said to them, Go and show yourselves to the priests. And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner? And he said to him, Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well. P This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ. Hymn: 785 We Praise You, O God 4

Sermon Apostles Creed (Found inside back cover of the hymnal) Prayer of the Church P O Lord, our God, C blessed are You forever! Offering (Our Thanksgiving Offerings will be given to Redeemer Lutheran Preschool.) Offertory: 894 For the Fruits of His Creation (verse 1) +Liturgy of the Sacrament+ P The Lord be with you. 2Timothy 4:22 C And also with you. P Lift up your hearts. C We lift them to the Lord. Colossians3:1 P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. Psalm 136 C It is right to give Him thanks and praise. 5

P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and singing: P In Your righteous judgment You condemned the sin of Adam and Eve, who ate the forbidden fruit, and You justly barred them and all their children from the tree of life. Yet, in Your great mercy, You promised salvation by a second Adam, Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, and made His cross a life-giving tree for all who trust in Him. We give You thanks for the redemption You have prepared for us through Jesus Christ. Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may faithfully eat and drink of the fruits of His cross and receive the blessings of forgiveness, life, and salvation that come to us in His body and blood. 6

Words of Institution Proclamation of Christ P As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord s death until He comes. C Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Lord s Prayer P Lord, remember us in Your Kingdom and teach us to pray: C Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Pax Domini P The peace of the Lord be with you always. C And also with you. Lamb of God 7

C Amen Benediction and Dismissal P Let us bless the Lord. C Thanks be to God. 8

Statement on Holy Communion The Lord s Supper is joyfully received here every weekend and on other holy days. At the altar, our Lord Jesus Christ delivers His true body and blood into our mouths. His gift of body and blood, given in, with, and under the bread and wine, bestows tremendous benefits. His body and blood forgives our sins, strengthens our faith, binds us to the Lord, and unites us with each other. In this is life and salvation. All members of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod have publicly confessed this sacred gift and its blessings, and so are encouraged to commune. Other guests wishing to join our confession and receive this Holy Sacrament are asked to meet with a pastor before communing for the first time. When you have examined yourself according to Christ s bidding (1 Corinthians 11:17-34), come to His Supper rejoicing, just as Jesus asks, knowing that our Lord meets you at His altar with joy. Those coming to the altar for a blessing rather than the Holy Supper are asked to cross their arms over their chest. Annual Congregational Meeting Redeemer s annual congregational meeting will be held on Sunday, December 2 nd, immediately after worship. 2019 Altar Flower Sign-Up If you would like to provide altar flowers for any week in 2019, the sign-up sheet is on a clipboard at the Welcome Center. Poinsettias We will once again be decorating Church to celebrate the birth of our Savior! If you would like to purchase a poinsettia for Church, please sign up at the Welcome Center. Children bring your shoes for St. Nicholas! At our first Advent service at Redeemer Lutheran on December 5th at 6 p.m. we invite all children and youth to bring an extra pair of shoes and leave them at the welcome center. During the service St. Nicholas will visit and fill the shoes with treats and trinkets. 11

Second Time Singles Second Time Singles invite you (don t need to be single) to join them on Saturday, Dec. 8 for a 7:30pm performance at the Capitol Civic Center to see Christmas With the Nelsons. Sign up by Nov. 26. Cash or check to the Capitol in the amount of $38.75 should be placed in the envelopes provided and dropped in the box at the Welcome Center. Hostesses for this event are Jill Bruss and LaVerne Schmidt. Church Security The last thing we want anyone to worry about when worshiping is their personal safety or the safety of their family. However we live in a world where that sadly isn t always the case. While no one was hurt there have been robberies of churches here in Manitowoc, during worship, in recent months. While we don t think drastic measures need to be taken there are simple things we can do to be more vigilant and proactive about safety. The Board Member on duty has been walking around the building during worship and often times sits in the narthex to observe the front door. Beginning the weekend of November 25 th the main doors near the Welcome Center will be the only ones that will be unlocked for all worship services. You can still exit the building near the office/preschool, but the door will NOT be unlocked. We understand that door is sometimes used to bring in items for fellowship, but we ask that you still enter the main doors and then open them from the inside. Thank you for your understanding and if you have any questions please contact an Executive Board member or Pastor DeArmond. Youth Gathering Pizza Ranch Fundraiser Reminder for the fundraiser at Pizza Ranch, 3212 Calumet Ave., on Monday, November 26 th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Ten percent of all sales during that time and tips will go directly to the support those attending the Youth Gathering. 12
