CHURCH OF ST. THERESA, BRONX APRIL 27, 2014 - SUNDAY OR DIVINE MERCY During my nearly twenty-three years here in St. Theresa, I have been blessed to have your loyalty, cooperation and generosity. Because of you St. Theresa is a vibrant parish. Our church inspires prayerfulness. We try to make our liturgies meaningful and we try to provide as many services as possible to meet the various needs of our parishioners. That we have a great parish is clear from the many volunteers who participate in a variety of ministries. All this and more are possible because of your faith and you commitment to St. Theresa. I know you understand the concern I have had and continue to have for our parish. We need to make sure that the spiritual, educational and recreational needs of our parishioners, both young and old, are always met. This is possible to the extent that the material resources are there to support these endeavors. I am writing to you at this time because we face some serious problems. There is reason to be concerned about our future financial stability that directly affect our responsibilities to our parish. Cost of living raises in salaries, electric bills, higher maintenance and repair costs, ever rising insurance premiums and other factors have greatly increased our operating expenses. However, our Sunday weekly offerings have not kept pace with the increase in operational expenses. During the past few years, St. Theresa Parish has been facing serious concerns about paying our bills from Sunday collections and donations. So many families who could give more are still contributing as little as $1.00 or $2.00 per week to support this parish. Perhaps many years ago this was a significant amount. But without doubt you must agree that nowadays, it is not. In an attempt to solve our parish s financial difficulties, we all need an overall increase in our weekly Sunday collections. This is the only way we can be assured of a reliable and steady source of income sufficient to meet our day-today operational needs. So I am asking each and every member of our parish to please increase his/her weekly contributions by $5.00 or more. With a little more help from every one of you we can accomplish our objective for the good of the parish. So if you are giving $2.00 now, I am asking that you give $7.00. If you are giving $3.00 now, I am asking that you give $8.00 and so one. You will soon hear or read that many parishes within the Archdiocese will close because of poor attendance and poor financial contributions. Some will be near by. And as time goes on if other parishes cannot meet their expenses, then more parishes will be forced to close their doors. Let it not happen here at St. Theresa! What you give to the Church should be your personal, prayerful decision. But what you give should be a response to the expenses of our Church as we carry out our mission in Jesus name. What I request of you is that you commit yourself to a willingness to try to give more to your parish. Clearly, this increase giving endeavor is extremely important. It is done with one thought in mind: that, above all else, our parish will exist for years to come so that we can provide for the spiritual, educational and recreational welfare of all our people. I urgently appeal for your help and cooperation in this effort that we are making for the good of our parish. FIRST FRIDAY This Friday, May 2 is First Friday. We will have our Holy Hour from 7:30-8:30PM and the church will remain open until 10:00PM for private adoration. Gratefully, Rev. If you cannot serve the Mass you have been assigned please make sure you find a replacement. When you are at Mass on Saturday or Sunday please check in the sacristy to see if we need your help serving Mass. Sunday May 11 th is Mother s Day all our Mass intentions for that day will be in Honor of all Mothers, Living and Deceased. If you would like a Mothers Day Mass Remembrance envelope they are in the back of the Church.
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY ST. THERESA S ANNUAL CARD PARTY IT S MY PARTY! MAY 8, 2014-7:00PM MAESTRO S CATERERS It s that time again for us to come together as a parish family to celebrate and enjoy one another s company at our Annual Card Party - It s My Party. The Card Party will take place on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 7:00PM at Maestro s Caterers.
