All inquirers are asked to call Amanda Noriega in the Religious Education office at 865-9370. LITURGY CORNER As a reminder, I am repeating a Liturgy Corner regarding a question about holding or raising our hands during the Our Father at Holy. In looking at the General Instruction on the Roman Missal, the proper posture during the recitation or singing of the Our Father is to be standing and to say or sing the prayer as one. It makes no mention of holding hands or even having our hands extended. The instructions to the Priest in the Roman Missal say, He extends his hands and, together with the people, continues: Our Father Notice that the deacons do not extend their hands but instead hold them together in a prayerful fashion. The GIRM says, In the Lord s Prayer a petition is made for daily bread, which for Christians means principally the Eucharistic Bread, and entreating also purification from sin, so that what is holy may in truth be given to the holy. The Priest pronounces the invitation to the prayer, and all the faithful say the prayer with him, then the Priest alone adds the embolism, which the people conclude by means of the doxology. The embolism, developing the last petition of the Lord s Prayer itself, asks for the deliverance from the power of evil for the whole community of the faithful. (GIRM, 81) During the Lord s Prayer, holding hands keeps little hands quiet, but the big people should follow the example of the deacons. The extension of hands seems to be, from my research, reserved for the Priest. Gay Snell The Lord's Prayer: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. PATER NOSTER, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen
