Children s Church Passage of the Week Advent I Sermon (Silence to hear God speak.) Rev. Chris Bollegar The Nicene Creed (Please stand and profess together.) We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Father, we pray for your holy Catholic Church; That we all may be one.

Lord of lords in human vesture, in the Body and the Blood He will give to all the faithful his own self for heavenly food. Rank on rank the host of heaven spreads its vanguard on the way, As the Light of Light descendeth from the realms of endless day, That the powers of hell may vanish as the darkness clears away. At his feet the six-winged seraph; cherubim with sleepless eye Veil their faces to the Presence, as with ceaseless voice they cry, Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia, Lord Most High! Rock of Ages (Augustus Montague Toplady, Thomas Hastings) Rock of Ages, cleft for me let me hide myself in Thee Let the water and the blood from Thy wounded side which flowed Be of sin the double cure save from wrath and make me pure Not the labors of my hands can fulfill Thy law's demands Could my zeal no respite know could my tears forever flow All for sin could not atone thou must save, and Thou alone. Nothing in my hand I bring simply to the cross I cling Naked, come to Thee for dress helpless, look to Thee for grace Foul, I to the fountain fly wash me, Savior, or I die While I draw this fleeting breath when mine eyes shall close in death When I soar to worlds unknown see Thee on Thy judgment throne Rock of Ages, cleft for me let me hide myself in Thee Post Communion Prayer BCP, p. 366 Celebrant and People: Almighty and everliving God, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal kingdom. And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen. Blessing Celebrant speaks. All: Amen. Recessional Blessed Assurance Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve you; That your Name may be glorified by all people. We pray for all bishops, priests, and deacons; That they may be faithful ministers of your Word and Sacraments. We pray for all who govern and hold authority in the nations of the world; That there may be justice and peace on the earth. Give us grace to do your will in all that we undertake; That our works may find favor in your sight. Have compassion on those who suffer from any grief or trouble; That they may be delivered from their distress. Give to the departed eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. We praise you for your saints who have entered into joy; May we also come to share in your heavenly kingdom. (The Celebrant adds a concluding Collect.) The Confession BCP, p. 360 Celebrant: Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. (Moment of Silence) Celebrant and People: Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Assurance of Pardon Celebrant: Almighty God, have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. People: Amen.

The Peace Celebrant: People: The Peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. (The ministers and the people greet one another in the name of the Lord.)
