Thursdays at 6:00pm w/communion Sundays at 8:00am & 10:30am 9:15am Sundays - Family for all ages DECEMBER 2018 OUR SAVIOR S MESSENGER No. 11 Telephone 452-4005 oslcsheboygan.com e-mail oslcsheboygan@gmail.com Dear Saints of Our Savior s: The holiday season is often a time for family gatherings. Getting together to catch up on what s going on in the lives of those we love; to share our stories of joy and sorrow, of setback and success; to give gifts shared in love are times to cherish because through the bonds of family we find strength and stability. Unfortunately, for some the holiday season only highlights how fractured family life can be. Not everyone gets along. Bad blood between family members causes stress and strife. That s why we also remember the holy family at Christmas. Now there was a fractured family! Joseph and Mary wondering what to make of an unplanned pregnancy! A mother giving birth in a less than ideal setting! Running away from those who would destroy their family and their Savior! What would the future hold? But that Baby! Oh, that Babe born in Bethlehem! He is the glue that holds that family together. Father Joseph and mother Mary believe the angel s message about their son: He is God s Son and through faith in what he would do with his life and his death, they and the whole world would be blessed with the way of salvation open to all. He is Immanuel God with us and so those who have Jesus in their life have God and each other as brothers and sisters of a heavenly father. We can make it! We have reasons to rejoice no matter our circumstances. As you gather with family and friends this Christmastime, welcome Jesus among you and in your home and heart. Jesus heals division. Jesus helps you in your need with his powerful promises. He brings the peace that matters and that lasts! Join us for worship! Advent Season November 29 & December 2 Savior of the Nations, Come! 2 Social Activities Group Sponsoring the "Christmas Giving Tree" The Social Activities Group is again putting up the giving tree the week of November 12. It has been decided that this year s recipient of everyone s generosity will be Mary s Room, a non-profit, nondenominational, pro-life organization that helps to meet the physical needs of mothers and their children in Sheboygan County. Mary s Room was started in Dodge County by a mother who, after her daughter, Mary, went off to college, used Mary s room to house maternity clothes and baby items for mothers in need. In 1992, three mothers worked together to start a Mary s Room in Sheboygan. The mission of Mary s Room is to put Jesus love into action by helping financially needy mothers and their babies. The items needed at this time are boys and girls winter pajamas, boy s newborn, 12 month, 3T and 4T and girl s size newborn newborn boy and girl onesies and baby mits diapers all sizes (EXCEPT SIZE 2). Cash will also be collected to go toward additional items required by Mary s Room. Feel free to take more than one ornament off the tree. If you would prefer to donate cash rather than shop, the committee will be glad to do the shopping for you. All gifts must be under the tree, or cash given to Marijo Pitsch (write checks to Marijo), by Sunday, December 15th. Cash and checks can also be dropped off at the church office. Please do not wrap the gifts. A final list of items collected will be published in the January or February 2019 newsletter. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Food Pantry News Seven holiday baskets were delivered to our members in need. All were very appreciative of the generosity of their Christian friends to care for their needs. The baskets contained both perishable and non-perishable items which helped these individuals enjoy Thanksgiving. We want to thank everyone who donated to this worthy cause by contributing either items, money, or by sponsoring a basket. We would like to thank the volunteers who delivered the baskets. Without your help, this outreach could not have happened. The next scheduled food basket distribution will be Christmas time. We will once again use the green bags to aid when shopping. We appreciate any contribution you make. If you know of any individuals from our congregation that are in need and could benefit from a basket, please call the church office. Thank you! CHURCH RECORDS TO CLOSE: The financial records for 2018 will close on December 31st. To the many faithful members whose weekly offerings throughout this year have been such a blessing for the Lord's work, our Lord says, "Well done good and faithful servant." To those who feel they missed opportunities to participate in Christ's great work through Christian giving, there's still a little time left to give before the year ends! All offerings for 2018 must be in by December 31st. Offering packets for 2019 are available to all members in the narthex after each worship service starting December 9 or you may come to the church office during office hours and pick them up. But please do not use them until 2019.

FLOWER CHART POSTED: The flower chart for 2019 will be in the narthex, next to the ushers' room in the cabinet, starting December 2. Members wishing to donate flowers are asked to select a date by placing their name on the appropriate line. Flowers may be given to the glory of God in observance of special events, anniversaries, birthdays, many blessings or in memory of Christian loved ones. The flowers are supplied by Caan's Floral Co. The cost of for the two vases is $26.00 and the centerpiece is $24.00. Kory will contact each donor about mid-week before the specified Sunday to determine the occasion for acknowledgment in the Sunday bulletin. On your Sunday, simply place the amount for the flowers in a plain envelope marked "Altar Flowers" with your name on it in the offering plate. PLEASE NOTE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES: 1. We appreciate the tremendous response of our people over the years to beautify the chancel altar with flowers. However, we can only accommodate so many donors per Sunday, so note carefully the designated spaces, and do not add your name when spaces are full! 2. It is the responsibility of the donor to pick up the flowers in the chancel immediately following the late service. If this is not possible, you may get them on Monday morning. 3. All flower payments should be made no later than the Sunday the donor selected. Thanks again to all our people for this extra loving act. USHERS NEEDED Ushers are needed to help at the 8:00am Sunday services. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Dennis Mickelson at 458-5414. 3 Mary Martha Report The annual Christmas Party will be at Rupp s downtown on Tuesday, December 4 th at 11:30am. We will have a $5.00 gift exchange. See you there! There will be no January meeting. Parish News Dear Friends in Christ, Blessings to all during the season of our Lord s birth. I normally meet a lot of Hispanic families and get a lot of contacts when I volunteer. But this year was a little different. While I was there, one Hispanic lady called me and asked me if I can help her. I replied yes, how can I help you. She said, Can you pray for me right now, right here, it doesn t matter that there are a lot of people here. I replied, Yes! What do you want me to pray for? To make the story short, she was so happy that God had someone to pray for her at the right time and the right place and in her language. I m very glad that the Lord brought me to Sheboygan to be his hands, feets and voice. Its also reminds us that we need to serve the Lord everywhere we go.
